Delisle Fire Department adds
Quad for Grass Fires
Pictured with new quad unit are (l -r)

Al Dreher (Fire Chief), Chris Thunstrom (Deputy Fire
Chief), Ron Stevens (Delisle Councillor)
The Delisle Fire Department recently add a new Quad
unit to the fleet. It is designed to get into hard to
reach areas in a grass fire and is equiped with a
water sprayer. Fire Chief Al Dreher spearheaded the quad
project. He obtained the quad from Moody’s Equipment at a
considerable discount, and an Agrium donation covered the
cost. The trailer was provided by Flamans at cost, and a do-
nation from the Delisle Co-op covered that expense. The
fire departments own fundraising projects covered the re-
maining costs of converting the quad by installing the
water tank, sprayer and lights.
Although the department hopes to never have to use the
unit, they know the day will come, and they will be able to
respond more effectively.
A true community co-operation project that will serve all
the residents well for years to come.
As part of the CTV Home Town Tour event, long time
Vanscoy resident, Jim Abel received the CTV
Home Town Hero Award.
Vanscoy Village Council was asked to nominated a resident for
the award. Jim was chosen for his many years of serving the
community. He has served on the village council and supported
the community through many years of volunteer work. He has
also lent a helping hand in many ways, to countless friends and
neighbors over the years. Congratulations to Jim Abel.

Story onPage 11
Editorial ‘Tell me no Secrets’For many years I have been in unique position of publishing the local paper for
our community. As a result I am often taken aside by someone that wants to
share with me a problem they are having.
These problems range from issues with the RM or thier local town governments
to complaints about thier neighborhood or school.
They are often frustrated that efforts they have made to address their situation
has fallen on deaf ears. I know from experience the frustration of receiving lip
service when you voice their concerns, especially when they represent you.
Often, when one is dealing with a group or organization that has an agenda,
they will do what they can to make you feel like a trouble maker, that you are
the only one that holds that opinion and should just accept the situation.
I always encourage such people to write a letter to this paper, voicing their con-
cern and shedding light on the situation being swept under the carpet, but I can
count on one hand how many times I have printed a letter to the editor in the
past decade. I have always found this very disappointing.
The problem is always the same. “I would love to write a letter but I don’t want
my name on it.” Well sorry, it doesn’t work that way.
Sometimes I am asked to write an article about their situation, but they don’t
want to be quoted on any of the facts. That don’t work either.
Understandably, these unfortunate souls live in a small community and feel if
they make any noise they will only make their situation worse.
Even though there may be many others that feel the same way but also believe
they are the only ones. So they are all forced to keep it their secret.
Classic bullying victims.
Well, in October you will have your chance to make your voice heard and no one
will know it is you. It is called a secret ballot.
On October 24th you can go to the polls and vote for the person that you believe
will make things better for you and your community.
No names, no fear of repercussions, total anonymity.
Freedom. The freedom to choose, that comes with all democracies.
So does freedom of speech, but maybe that is too big of a step for some.
See you in November when we will take time to remember those who chose to
give their life, rather than have to live in silence.
Happy Thanksgiving.

The Saskatoon ban-
tam phantoms won
gold in Strathmore
AB August 12th against
the Prince Albert Astros.
They played 4 round
robin games, the 1 vs 2
game and the final and
were undefeated in all
games. They had a fantas-
tic season finishing sec-
ond in Provincials,
winning the Presidents
Tournament back in May
and ending their season
winning western Canadi-
ans.
The Saskatoon Pee Wee
Phantoms with players
from Saskatoon,
Vanscoy, Martensville and
Delisle won westerns in Maple
Ridge BC on August 6th. They
beat Prince Albert Astros in
the gold medal game to become
champions. They were unde-
feated in round robin play
against teams from Manitoba,
British Columbia and
Saskatchewan. They fell short
in the 1 vs 2 game to Prince
Albert so had to beat BC in a
semi final to advance to the
final. They did just that and
then went on to beat PA 9-2 in
4 and a half innings. It was a
fantastic tournament and they
all played exceptional!

TOWN OF ASQUITHAsquith Town Council held its Septem-
ber Council meeting on September 11,
2012.
The three old municipal wells that were
located behind and in the old water plant
were decommissioned.
The Town of Asquith applied for the
Community Rink Affordability Grant on
behalf of the Asquith Rink Board for a
grant of $2,500 that Sask Parks and
Recreation administers to each rink in
the Province.
A moving permit was issued to move a
garage into town; a building permit was
issued to alter a garage; a building per-
mit was issued to construct a garage, and
a demolition permit was issued to demol-
ish a house.
The Town of Asquith accepted a bid for
the sale of the Ford Tractor in the
amount of $2,351.00.
The two serviced lots in the 500 block of
Andrew Street were reduced to a sale
price of $35,000.00 + GST and the eight
new serviced lots on Lunn Street were
priced at a sale price of $40,000.00 +
GST. Council also initiated tax incen-
tives for the aforementioned lots. The in-
centives are that for the first year, the
Town charges 0% municipal taxes, the
second year 50% municipal taxes and the
third year the Town charges 75% munici-
pal taxes.
The Town is sponsoring the Royal Cana-
dian Legion's Military Service Recogni-
tion Book by purchasing an
advertisement for $195.00.
The Town of Asquith also declared Sep-
tember to be Muscular Dystrophy Month
in the Town of Asquith.
A letter was received from the Ministry of
Government Relations, Emergency Man-
agement, indicating that the Town has
been successful in receiving grant money
with which to purchase the Jaws of Life
for the Asquith Fire Department. A let-
ter was in turn sent to the Right Honor-
able Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of
Canada, requesting that the Federal Gov-
ernment revisit their decision to cut all
funding to the Joint Emergency Pre-
paredness Program. It was this program
that municipalities used to be able to ac-
cess for the purchase of capital items and
for the purpose of training of individuals
in dealing with emergency situations.
2012 is a general municipal election year.
Election Day will be held on October 24,
2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and the
Advance Election will be held on October
18, 2012 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Mayor James Maddin had retained his
position through acclamation. There will
be an election for Councillors, as there
were seven nominations received for six
positions. The following individuals have
thrown their hats into the ring to become
future councilors for the Town of Asquith:
Ross Beal, Gary Dumont, Gail Erhart,
Karen Gamble, Don Lysyshyn, Sue Saw-
icki and Wayne Strom.
TOWN OF DELISLEDelisle Town Council held a regular
meeting on September 13.
Council hired Caley Dokken as an Out-
side Maintenance Worker, beginning Oc-
tober 1st.
Debbie Rolston was given permission to
establish a mini photography gallery in
the front hallway of the Town Office
building.
The Town acknowledged Delisle Commu-
nity Ag Lands’ name change to the
Delisle Crops for Community. This group
will be using the newly annexed farm-
land east of Town as a means of fundrais-
ing for recreational infrastructure.
The Tax Lien List was approved, authen-
ticated and advertised.
Due to increasing environmental regula-
tions, burning rubble at the Waste Man-
agement Area is discontinued. Gyproc
and glass will now be disposed of in the
Loraas container and there will be a $60
charge/half ton truck. Asphalt and ce-
ment will be accepted at n/c provided
they are separated - they will have their
own separate stockpile and the materials
will be crushed and reused as road mate-
rial. Since material will not be buried on
sited, the Town is applying to the
province for ‘transfer station’ status only.
RM OF VANSCOYCongratulations to Reeve Floyd Chap-
ple, Harvey Pippin, Councillor for Divi-
sion No. 1, Leonard Junop, Councillor for
Division No. 3 and Ron Stevens Council-
lor for Division No. 5. All positions were
re-elected by acclamation.
There will not be an elected held on
Wednesday October 24th.
Council approved six applications for de-
velopment and building permits at their
September 11th meeting.
The next regular meeting of Council will
be held on Tuesday, October 9th.
VILLAGE OF VANSCOYCouncil of the Village of Vanscoy has
approved five more building permits in
the last few council meetings. We are told
there are only a few lots left in the new
subdivision.
An application was received to allow mul-
tiple unit dwellings on Parcel F in the
Village. Public Notice will be given when
the process is more completed.
Council approved a conditions agreement
for sale of lots; the agreement states
there will be a two year building commit-
ment included in the agreement. The
agreement cannot be assigned to anyone
without approval from council.
A huge thanks to CTV for promoting the
Village in their Home Town Tour on
Monday. The event was attended by more
than 200; the BBQ was enjoyed by all.

fice. Voting hours are 9am until 8pm.

COUNCIL REPORTS
www.rmreview.net RM Review
AsquithTown
CleanupDay
Asquith Town Council sponsored a Town
Cleanup Day on September 15, 2012.
Council members drove around picking up
yard and garden waste for residents, and some
residents pitched in to help trim unruly trees and
clean up the Town! A BBQ followed and a good
time was had!
Saskatchewan has
had a higher
than normal inci-
dent of fatal car colli-
sions thus far in 2012.
Whether you are trav-
eling five miles to
grandma's house or 500
miles, these tips will
help you travel safely.
Tip No. 1: Plan Ahead
If you need to do any
driving this Thanksgiv-
ing holiday then you
need to plan ahead to
ensure that you are
prepared to handle the
challenges offered by
possible holiday
storms, road condi-
tions, construction and
traffic jams.There are a
lot of resources that
you can use to plan
your Thanksgiving
travel ahead of time.
Road reports, weather
predictions, travel ad-
visories and maps can
all be found online,
from local radio sta-
tions, from television
and from travel agents.
Use the information
that you obtain from
these sources to plan
ahead for travel delays,
detours and hazardous
road conditions.
Tip No. 2: Avoid Last
Minute Travel
In order to reduce
stress and reduce the
amount of traffic that
you will have to fight to
get to your chosen des-
tination, you will want
to avoid rushing to
your destination at the
last minute. Allow
yourself plenty of time
to get from your home
to your Thanksgiving
destination. Take into
consideration frequent
pit stops, slow moving
traffic, weather devel-
opments and road con-
dition concerns.
Tip No. 3: Be Prepared
for Emergencies
Be prepared for emer-
gencies by carrying (1)
a first aid kit, (2) a
roadside emergency
kit, (3) a spare tire and
jack, (4) a cell phone,
(5) blankets, (6) water
and (7) food. These
items will keep you
safe in the event that
you are in an accident,
if your car breaks down
or if you are delayed
because of an accident.
Tip No. 4: Let People
Know Your Travel
Plans
If you will be driving a
long distance this
Thanksgiving holiday
you will want to let
someone know when
you will be traveling,
what route you will be
taking and when you
plan on leaving your
home. This way if
something happens
along the way, someone
will know where to look
for you and where to
send help. If you have a
cell phone then you will
want to update your
friends and/or family
about your progress
each time you stop for
gas or food.
Tip No. 5: Prepare Your
Car for the Drive
It is very important
that you prepare your
car for your Thanksgiv-
ing journey before you
leave. You will want to
have the car's fluids
checked and filled, you
will want to make sure
you have the right tires
for the journey and
that they are properly
inflated, you will want
to make sure the en-
gine is in good condi-
tion and you will want
to make sure your oil
has been changed. If
you will be traveling in
inclement weather
then you will want to
also make sure your
windshield wipers are
still in good condition.
Tip No. 6: Stay Alert
The majority of colli-
sions tend to be caused
by human error. Stay
alert and focused on
the road during your
travels. Do not let dis-
tractions such as other
people in the vehicle or
cell phone usage inter-
fere with the operation
of your motor vehicle.
REMEMBER.....it is
better to arrive at
your destination
safely rather than
not all.

I moved to Asquith from Per-
due in 2003 with my husband
Alex and Daughter Jenna. I
had served as councillor for
the Village of Perdue for 12
years and enjoyed the chance
to be involved in local poli-
tics. I am currently a director
for the Biggar Credit Union
representing the members
from Perdue and Asquith and
would like to see financial
services return
to Asquith.
I work at Al Andersons
Source for Sports as their Ac-
counting Manager. I love my
job working with young ener-
getic people who KNOW
THEIR STUFF! I received
my diploma in Accountancy
from SIAST and have en-
joyed a variety of positions
including secretary for the
Village of Kinley. This train-
ing has given me great in-
sight into the municipal act
and the operations of a town
and its services.
I believe Asquith has a great
future. With an energetic
Council motivated to support
growth and business, I know
Asquith can continue to be a
top choice for new residences.
We have a terrific school,
stores, restaurants and many
home businesses.
Supporting our recreational
services provides more ways
to be a great community.
Please support me with your
vote - I would appreciate an
opportunity to work for the
Town of Asquith as a Coun-
cillor.
I have recently retired from
Old Dutch Foods where I
worked for 51 years as Re-
gional Sales Manager for
Saskatchewan and Northern
Manitoba. I currently drive
semi to keep myself busy. I
have 6 children and 14 grand
children. I have lived in the
area for the past 19 years
and 3 years ago moved into
the Town of Asquith. I served
as councillor for 2 years be-
fore running for Mayor last
election. I have served on
many local committees -
Rodeo, PBR, Rink Board and
was Minor Hockey President.
I have lived in Asquith for
the past 5 years. I have 4
children that did or do attend
Lord Asquith School. I work
in town and am available to
the residents every day. I
would like to be involved in
creating Community Devel-
opment and Safety programs.
Be sure to get out and vote.

After completing Ag. school,
Curt began his career work-
ing for Monsanto Canada.
First as an account manager
based in Medicine Hat, AB.
he called on crop input retail-
ers in the southern portion of
the province. In 2001, he ac-
cepted a marketing position
with the company at their
Canadian head office in Win-
nipeg, MB. where he held nu-
merous marketing roles
during his four year stay
there. “Working with a com-
pany that size, in their head
office was a great opportu-
nity,” says Gessell. “I was
fortunate to work with some
very talented people. I
learned a lot about managing
budgets, teamwork, people
management and communi-
cation.” Missing the small
town life, in 2004, Curt and
his wife Anne, moved back to
Medicine Hat where he
began working as a project
manager for a market re-
search company, Stratus
Agri-Marketing. “That was a
very interesting job. It really
made a person think about
the big picture - how to ana-
lyze markets and the factors
that influence them.” In
2008, Curt returned to the
family farm to join his father
Brent and brother Clint. “My
brother and I are third gener-
ation farmers in our family.
Farming was always some-
thing I sort of planned to re-
turn to - I just took the long
road getting there. Moving
back to Delisle, the town I
grew up in, was amazing.
We moved around a bit over
the past number of years…it
was nice to finally feel set-
tled.” says Gessell. “After liv-
ing in bigger city centers,
such a Winnipeg, you really
appreciate the things that
come with living in a smaller
community, such as security
and neighbors that look out
for your children and prop-
erty. Those things mean so
much.” Curt and his wife
Anne, have a young family of
three - Madeline (11), Ashlyn
(7) and Luke (5). Since re-
turning to Delisle, Curt has
become active in the commu-
nity. He is president of the
local crop production and
marketing club - Delisle Ag
Ventures, and recently joined
as an active committee mem-
ber for a new fundraising
project called “Delisle Crops
for Community”. When asked
about the upcoming election
on the 24th, he truly encour-
ages citizens to get out and
vote. “It is a very exciting
time for our community, and
residents deserve a strong
council to represent them. I
am thrilled about the possi-
bility of being a part of it.”
I have lived in Delisle since
1960 and have served on
council for the past 17 years.
I am Production Supervisor
at Great Western Brewing in
Saskatoon.
My focus in serving on coun-
cil is to maintain reasonable
and fair taxes while main-
taining and improving infra-
structure, growth and
development. With our new
land base and updated infra-
structure, we can now look at
recreational development
which has been on the back
burner over the past years. I
believe we can achieve this
with careful, responsible
planning for our current
needs, as well as future costs.
Hi my name is Darcy Peak-
man, I would like to welcome
you to this great community
of Delisle. I currently work
at Agrium Potash Mine as a
Millwright. I have lived in
Delisle for the last 38 years.
This is a great town to live
in and I will continue to
move forward to upgrade and
see continued growth for our
community if re-elected.
Looking forward to meeting
you and hope see you out on
election day
I am seeking a 2nd term as
Councillor for the Town of
Delisle. We have lived in
Delisle for 36 years and have
raised our 3 children here.
We also have 5 grandchil-
dren. I have been employed
at PCS Cory for the over 38
years and presently working
as a hoistman.
Over the years that we have
lived in Delisle I have been
involved in several organiza-
tions and committees. I de-
sire to play a role in helping
to make sure that Delisle is a
place that people and busi-
nesses want to call home.
Keeping the community in-
formed is one of a council
members most important
roles and I invite residents to
share their concerns and
ideas so that we can work to-
gether to make Delisle a bet-
ter place. I believe that the
town will continue to grow.
We have to plan for that and
work for the future.
The community of Delisle
and surrounding area has
always shown signs of great
potential. Being a commu-
nity, 20 minutes away from
the City of Saskatoon and
on a major highway heading
west, it also has great fu-
ture.
I feel that with a proper
team for council that we can
take this community to the
next level. We have to have
an economic development
plan to project for the future
as well as the present day
Delisle.
I propose to be part of the
future of the community, by
bringing a vision, as well as
addressing the present day
needs of the community.
A community that works to-
gether, stays together, and
grows together.
A community that look’s
into the future, and plans
for the future, has a future.
My commitment to the com-
munity as mayor is to show
the community of Delisle
that change is needed.
If we can use the approach
that we can keep our people,
as well as bring business in-
terest to the community, it
will show positive signs of
improvement. This will also
bring people to the commu-
nity.
We as a town have to have a
vision, as well as direction,
and I feel as being nomi-
nated Mayor in the town of
Delisle that we all have a
great future.
I have lived in Vanscoy since
2005 and have had ties to the
village since 1994 when I met
my now husband Curtis. We
lived in Saskatoon for a brief
period and after we had our
two girls we wanted them to
grow up in a community that
offered safety and security as
well as a friendly, community
minded atmosphere. We
knew that Vanscoy offered all
of these things and were ex-
cited when we joined the
community.
I truly believe in volunteer-
ing to make the community
you live in a wonderful place.
Since we moved to Vanscoy I
have served on the Vanscoy
Community Recreation
Board as Secretary, volun-
teered for many different
functions that have been held
in the community (fall sup-
per, seniors supper, snowmo-
bile rally), and was the
Manager of the Novice
Hockey Team last hockey
season.
I am extremely proud of my
involvement with the
Vanscoy & District Early
Learning Centre where I
served as Treasurer of the
Vanscoy and District Early
Learning Centre Building
Committee. The committee
put in a lot of time and com-
mitment to ensure that
Vanscoy would have a won-
derful facility that people
could take their children for
quality childcare.
If I am elected as councillor
of the Village of Vanscoy I
would like to ensure the con-
tinued growth of the village
as well as the necessary up-
grades to aging facilities. I
would like to see more in-
volvement in community
events like the annual Fair.
I am committed to the Com-
munity as a whole and would
love to see the community
spirit grow along with the
community. Vanscoy is a
wonderful community to live
in and if we all work together
we can continue this for gen-
erations to come.
My name is Robin Odnokon
and I am running for coun-
cilor for the Village of
Vanscoy. My husband and I
own The Robins Nest Cafe
and have lived in Vanscoy for
12 years. I have already
served one term on council
and have learned a lot and
continue to learn about the
day to day operations and
problems that we face in the
community. I hope to con-
tinue to serve as your coun-
cilor for the next four years. I
thank you for the support
you have shown to me over
the previous years.
I am once again asking for
the support of the people of
Vanscoy to go into a third
term of serving you on village
council.Since I have been on
council I have helped by
being instrumental in achiev-
ing the new waste water
treatment upgrade and the
building of our new lagoon
cells which are situated on
the west side of the Agrium
Potash mine. This was in-
strumental prior to the devel-
opment of 40 new lots which
have all sold but six at this
time. These lots are being de-
veloped by Willard Olauson
and will be turned over to the
town after the sale has been
completed. We still need to
work on our water treatment
to be able to service the bal-
ance of fourty one lots and
this we need to do without
putting further cost on the
existing tax payers in this
village. We are working on a
water and sewer service in
the industrial area as well as
Campbell Road to fully serv-
ice lots that had been sold
prior to me getting on village
council. We also have several
other issues that require
tending to which are in the
process of being finalized. So
you see we have work that
has started by this council
and I would like to have your
vote so I may stay on council
and help finish what we have
started. I would like to thank
all previous councillors that I
have served with he past five
years and especially His Wor-
ship Jerome Robert who is
once again running for
Mayor. We managed to get a
lot done in the past few years
together, and a I look at the
cast running for the council I
can see we can get a lot more
done and once again ask for
your support as I may serve
you the citizens of Vanscoy.
My loyalties lie deep rooted
and my passion is to do the
right thing for the village as
we move forward with new
development and trying to
keep our costs down so we
are not overtaxing our exist-
ing residents. So on Oct. 24 I
ask for your support and
trust to send me to work for
you as a Village councillor.
My name is Brent Lensen
and I am running for
Vanscoy Village Council. I
am a grain and cattle farmer
and a long-time resident of
Vanscoy.
I feel that common sense and
good judgement would be an
asset to Village Council.
Please come out and vote on
October 24th!
I look forward to working for
you in a second term and I
appreciate your support once
again.
I have nine years on council,
three as a Councillor and six
as Mayor. During my terms
there have been many
changes. The ones closest to
my heart are the improve-
ments to the Fire Depart-
ment, having our Health
Centre names a Primary
Health Centre and the es-
tablishment of a full time
Nurse Practitioner.
We are in the process of de-
veloping a 20 lot residential
subdivision, continuing on
from the 34 lot subdivision
that was completed a few
years ago. We have pur-
chased and annexed land for
future growth, keying on af-
fordable housing and recre-
ational facilities.
We are currently developing
an industrial subdivision
with one new business al-
ready in place and hopes of
attracting more.
We have done upgrades to
the rink, hall and to the
water treatment plant to in-
crease the water pressure in
town, as well as the con-
struction of a new lift sta-
tion.
I am asking for your support
at the polls. Please take the
time to vote.

Welcome back to another great school year and welcome to all the new fami-
lies at Lord Asquith School. Our starting enrolment is 293. We have new
teachers in Kindergarten, Grade One and Grade 3/4. Welcome to Jennifer
Mason, Nichole Unger and Jennifer Leonew. We will be having a Meet the
Teacher barbeque on Oct. 18th. The Junior and Senior boys and girls are
busy practicing and playing volleyball and training for Cross Country Run-
ning. The photographer will be at our school on Monday, Sept. 24 to take
our pictures. A big thanks goes out to the Hot Meal Parents for the fantas-
tic breakfast on Opening Day. Please check out our web page at Lord
Asquith School to keep up to date on the happenings at our school.
LORD ASQUITH
Welcome back from everyone at Delisle Composite School. A special wel-
come to our new principal, Mr. Schlosser, who returns to DCS after a year
as VP in Dalmeny. Also, welcome to our many new students, and to our
eight intern teachers. It's a lot of new faces around the classrooms!
School activities began before the students even officially returned to school.
Here are a few updates that were submitted. Cross Country running is un-
derway. Many of our athletes already competed in a meet at Langham. In
Bantam Girls, Meagan K was 3rd and Chayla was 4th; in Midget Boys,
Christian finished 16th; in Midget Girls, Jordyn C was 3rd and Eliisa was
9th; in Senior Girls, Amee was 1st, Amy R was 5th, and Sonja was 7th.
Good job to all of these runners! Other dates to remember are the local
Rebel Run Wed. Sept. 26th, and districts at Blackstrap October 3rd. Junior
and Senior Girls volleyball teams are also in action, and the football team
already has two wins under its belt. More info on these teams as their sea-
sons progress!
The SRC put on a 'welcome back' BBQ for new staff and students, and are
planning for the Terry Fox Run on September 27. On the 28th, some of our
students are participating in activities for "Culture Days" in Canada. There
are many interesting things to take in and we are excited to be a part of it.
And that will bring September to a close. Until next month, that's it from
DCS!
DELISLE COMPOSITE
Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year!! At Pike Lake School we love the
start of a new year as the excitement and anticipation of what is to come is
so invigorating! The expectation is especially great as we look forward to cel-
ebrating our schools 100th year of existence in 2013. In the past few weeks
we have become familiar with new routines, new staff members, new stu-
dents, and set plans for our new learning. The world of exploration is upon
us once again!
Leading our exploration & journey of learning this year at Pike Lake School
is our new principal Claire Tarala. Claire has brought amazing creativity,
initiative and energy. Moreover her heartfelt belief that student learning
should be child-centered and adapted to meet the individual needs of the
student’s supports the success of all members of the Pike Lake School learn-
ing Community. Indeed the entire Pike Lake School Staff looks forward to
guiding our students as they endeavor to fulfill their learning potential.
In addition to our core Pike Lake School staff we are very fortunate to in-
clude the wonderful Pike Lake Community as an integral part of the Pike
Lake School team. Last year students and staff were very fortunate to wel-
come many community members as guest speakers, as volunteers and as
guests. The Pike Community was very generous in the donation of material
items to support our educational pursuits and also with monetary contribu-
tions to student led charity initiatives.
Students and staff also benefitted from venturing forth to various field trips
into the beautiful surrounding area of Pike Lake. Our school also continued
to feel the wonderful support of the Pike Lake Community and School Assoc
(PLCSA). Pike Lake School is so thankful to have their support through the
use of the hall, but also in supporting all our schools learning adventures.
The September 13th Welcome Back to School and Community BBQ exempli-
fied the wonderful benefits of the partnerships between Pike Lake School,
the School Community Council(SCC), the PLCSA and community. The BBQ
was attended by many, and enjoyed by all! It was a great opportunity for
school and community members to enjoy a beautiful evening, meet and
greet the staff of Pike Lake School and its SCC, and register for community
activities. All that attended had the opportunity to visit with the Pike Lake
Firefighters, First Responders, PLCSA Executives and an RCMP Officer
from Warman Detachment, who provided the free “Child Find Clinic”. Spe-
cial thanks go to all who volunteered their time. Thank you to the PLCSA
for sharing the cost of hosting the gathering with the Pike Lake SCC.
Pike Lake Schools Before and After School Program started in September to
support our families. The program is run through The Boys and Girls Club.
It is a wonderful exciting program which we hope will work to support par-
ents/guardians and bring students to our school. Please contact the school if
you have any questions regarding this or any other program that our school
is developing.
In the near future Pike Lake School will be hosting many exciting events
and information sessions. Stay tuned for more information regarding our
school goals and activities to support the 2013 100th year celebration.
Please look for more information to come on our school sign, posted on our
school website and on poster boards in the Community.

PIKE LAKE PRESCHOOLSeptember brought registration and beginning classes of Pike Lake Pre-
school. We have 5 four-year olds who come on Tuesdays and Fridays and 4
three-year olds on Thursdays. Both classes began with a get-to-know-you
day - drawing pictures of themselves and playing games to learn each oth-
ers' names (and mine!) Both classes learned about the number 1 - the 3-year
olds could recognize the number and the 4-year olds could recognize and
print it. Both classes also had a blue day where they made blue crafts, wore
blue clothes, and ate blue food.
The 4-year olds also learned about what kinds of things happen in the fall
and we had a name day where the children did activities to learn how to
spell and print their names. Once a week or so, the 4-year olds will also
learn about a particular letter and doing activities.
Both classes have quickly learned the classroom routines as well as the fact
that they can be comfortable & have fun, even without their parents around.
In October, both classes will learn about Thanksgiving, the number 2, the
colour orange, and have a Halloween Party - that means 2 parties for me!
The 4-yr olds will learn their phone numbers & begin a theme on health.
3-year old days: 4, 11, 18, 25
4-year old days: 2, 5, 9, 16, 19, 23, 26, 30 / Colour - orange Number - 2
If you have, or know of someone who has, a child who will be 3 or 4 by De-
cember 31st, 2012 and is interested in preschool, please phone Wendy at
978-8164 or Lyndsey at 244-2777 for more information.

Prime Minister
Stephen Harper today
announced that Lieu-
tenant-General
Thomas J. Lawson,
currently Deputy Com-
mander of the North
American Aerospace
Defense Command
(NORAD), will be ap-
pointed Chief of the De-

promoted to the rank of
General. The change of
command ceremony
will take place in the
coming weeks.
"Lieutenant-General
Lawson is the right
leader for the Cana-

will bring a clear vision
and strong values to
the role," said Prime
Minister Harper. "His
experience, team-build-
ing skills and collabo-
rative approach will
help position the Cana-

the future."
Following his gradua-
tion from the Royal
Military College in
1979, Lieutenant-Gen-
eral Lawson’s distin-
guished career in the
Royal Canadian Air
Force included postings
to Baden, Germany,
Montgomery, Alabama,

Squadron, and later
took charge of career
management for the

Our government
is taking action
in the wake of the
tragic death of an 18-
year-old girl killed
while working as high-
ways flagperson. Ash-
ley Dawn Richards was
struck by a vehicle in
an Orange Zone in Au-
gust – a tragedy Pre-
mier Brad Wall
described as a sense-
less loss caused by bla-
tant disregard for the
rules. The Province of
Saskatchewan is part-
nering with the RCMP
to improve safety in the
Orange Zone. The
RCMP will conduct
traffic enforcement
blitzes targeting high-
way construction zones.
Our government will
announce further
measures in the coming
weeks. Motorists are
required by law to slow
to 60 kilometres an
hour where Orange
Zone signs are up and
workers are present.
Fines start at $140 and
increase by two dollars
for every km/h over the
speed limit up to 90
km/h. For speeds in
excess of 90 km/h, the
fine increases by four
dollars for every km/h
above the speed limit.
Your Saskatchewan
Party government is
keeping our promise to
improve access to
health care in rural
and remote communi-
ties. We met recently
with a delegation from
Nova Scotia about a
new model of care they
are using to do just
that – Collaborative
Emergency Centres, or
CECs. CECs combine
primary and emer-
gency care. In Nova
Scotia, they are typi-
cally open 24 hours a
day, seven days a
week. During the day,
CECs offer primary
health care provided by
a team of professionals,
including doctors and
nurses. At night, the
team includes a regis-
tered nurse and a para-
medic with physician
oversight. We see the
Nova Scotia model as
an innovative way to
meet the needs of rural
and remote communi-
ties by improving ac-
cess to services,
reducing wait times
and same or next-day
appointments.
With flu season just
around the corner, our
government has an-
nounced the return of
the annual influenza
vaccine program. Over
the next couple weeks,
the vaccine will become
available across the
province at public
health clinics and doc-
tor’s offices. The vac-
cine is recommended
for high risk groups
such as:
·
People with chronic
health conditions;
· Anyone 65 and over;
· Residents of nursing
homes and other
chronic care facilities;
· Children between the
ages of six months and
five-years-old;
· Pregnant women; and
· People in close contact
with any of the above
groups.
To find the nearest im-
munization clinic,
please contact your
doctor’s office, call
HealthLine at 1-877-
800-0002, or check out
the websites of regional
health authorities. For
more information on
the provincial immu-
nization program and
influenza, visit the
Ministry of Health’s
website at
www.health.gov.sk.ca
or the Healthline’s
website at www.health-

Monday & TuesdayFood for Thought
When I
was a
much
younger man,
just gaining an
interest in poli-
tics I admired
the Party lead-
ers and their
tussle for votes
based on their
policy presenta-
tions. I am still
keenly inter-
ested in the out-
come of elections
because I con-
sider it my duty,
but I confess
that the elec-
toral process
particularly in
the last three
federal elections
to be an embar-
rassment. It did-
n’t happen over
night; however
the electorate let
it occur by per-
mitting our votes
to be siphoned
off by appeals to
our crassest in-
stincts.
Of course we
didn’t invent
this process in
Canada; it came
gift wrapped and
labelled “made
in the USA”. The
United States
has a long his-
tory of domestic
turmoil; north
vs. south, eman-
cipation of the
Black Ameri-
cans, Hispanic
immigration, the
power of the mil-
itary-industrial
sector, and being
the dominant
world power.
This has led to
factions and
splinter groups
all fighting for
political power.
The result is two
Parties whose
power bases are
bitterly divided
and a Congress
that is in a near
stalemate. Those
are the United
States’ problems;
however Canada
should not have
to import their
agonies.
Misleading vot-
ers to the wrong
polls and per-
sonal denigra-
tion of the
competitor’s
leader indicates
how far we have
already slipped.
The only way to
stop this down-
ward spiral is for
the electorate,
whether of the
Party you sup-
port or the oppo-
sition, to de-
mand a standard
of performance
by the election
campaign teams
that will stand
the closest of in-
spections along
with more rigor-
ous attention by
Elections
Canada. Ours is
a system of re-
sponsible gov-
ernment and so
those seeking
election must ex-
hibit qualities
that they will be
responsible to
we the elec-
torate. Our gov-
ernment
represents us,
but does not rule
us.
