The following is a synopsis of reported activities and relevant responses covering the

TONIGHT'S EVENTS

• Times Up to hold Critical Mass Bike Ride, tonight, 1900 hours, from Union Square

Park to an undisclosed location. This event is capable of drawing between 2000 and

3000 bicyclists . This group has been known to intentionally obstruct vehicular

traffic.

• War Resistors League/PAUSE - Palestinian Action of Union Square East, today

at Union Square Park. This weekly anti-war event is usually conducted by

approximately 25 persons.

• "Christian Defense Coalition" to Hold Candlelight Vigil Near MSG. Tonight,between 2030 to 2130 hours, in the vicinity of MSG, on 7t Ave. 31St to 32°dStreets . Approximately 100 people are expected to participate.

• "Committee for Social Justice in Columbia" to Conduct Weekly Event, today,between 1700 and 1800 in front of the offices of Remy Amerique (makers ofCointreau Liquor) and again between 1800 to 1900 hours at the NY Offices of Coca-Cola, located at 71151h Avenue. This weekly protest is usually conducted byapproximately 25 participants.

INCIDENTS

• UPDATE- Possible protest targeting the GOP Golf Outingo Earlier today, it was reported that activists may have committed an act of

vandalism at the Van Courtland Park Golf Course. The following statementwas painted on "the greens" on the course:

n "How many people are hungry, plants, gardens not green, govt. iswrong, politics is not a business, golfers are a waste of time and taxand life." (sic)

o Intelligence indicates that activists are being urged to protest the GOP GolfOuting at the following locations:

n 1100 hours at 810 Seventh Avenue between 52nd and 53r1Streets (The departure location for the GOP buses).

n Van Courtland Park (the location of the GOP event).o Activists have developed tactics for disabling "charter" buses that entails

lying on the street in front of the bus to prevent movement whileactivating a "kill-switch" in the engine compartment.

o Internet chatter suggests that pies may be thrown in the face of theparticipants of the GOP Outing.

• Amtrak Train Searched for Suspected Terrorist

o At approximately 0745 hours, an Amtrak commuter train #847 was stopped

20 miles north of Washington, D.C. in the area of Riverdale, M.D.

o Amtrak authorities stopped the train after receiving information that there wasa terrorist on board.

o The train resumed travel after being searched with negative results.

DEMONSTRATION ACTIVITIES

• Falun Gong Conducts Protest at Pfizer Corp, between 0700 and 1000 hours, atPhizer Corp. located at 220 East 42" Street in Manhattan. There wereapproximately 3 persons at peak and no incidents reported.

• Group "Mothers Opposing Bush" March Across Brooklyn Bridge. Between 930and 1200 hours 150 members of the group marched over the Brooklyn Bridge. Therewere no incidents reported.

• Greene Dragon Crosses New York Harbor. Approximately 20 members of GreeneDragon held a "Crossing of New York Harbor" event from Staten Island toManhattan. The group boarded the Staten Island Ferry at St. George Terminal on theS.I. side and traveled to Manhattan. There were no incidents.

• 9/11 Family Group "Stonewalk" Anti-war March arrives in New York City .Approximately 20 members of "The September 11` Families for PeacefulTomorrows" continued the anti-war "Stonewalk" protest event and arrived in theconfines of the 47`h Precinct. There were no incidents reported.

• A31 Coalition and NYC Service Workers, Veterans , City Council MemberCharles Baron and Bill Perkins held a combined press conference on the steps ofCity Hall. The conference was held to Protest RNC's Impact on the City. Therewere 50 people at peak, and no incidents reported.

• Unknown Activists Conduct Mass "NO" picnic in Central Park, at the time ofthis writing 100 persons were assembled in the shape of the word "NO" in protest ofthe war in Iraq. The group was awaiting the completion of an aerial photo. Therehave been no incidents reported.

• Long Island Activist Group "Suffolk Peace Network" Conducts Protest Walkand rally in Queens

UPCOMING EVENTS FOR 08/28/2004

• ANSWER / "National Council of Arab Americans" Demonstration , on Saturday,August 28, 1000 through 1800 hours, on the Great Lawn in Central Park. The groupis trying to raise awareness on civil rights and Arab concerns. Approximately 75,000participants are expected . Parks permit denied.

• "Times Up" Downtown Cycling Tour, on Saturday, August 28, at 1100 hours,starting at East Houston Street, between Avenues B and C, then a ride throughoutlower Manhattan . This event is not being advertised as a "critical mass" event;unknown number of participants, potential to disrupt vehicular traffic withspontaneous direct action. No permit(s) were issued.

• "Times Up and "Ring Out" Bicycle Ride, on Saturday, August 28, approximately1700 hours, at the intersection of Albany and West Streets . Bicycle ride toundisclosed location in solidarity between the two activist groups. This event isnot being advertised as a "critical mass" event, unknown number ofparticipants , potential to disrupt vehicular traffic with spontaneous directaction . No permit was issued for this event.

• "Ring Out.org" Ring out the Republicans , on Saturday, August 28, 1730 through1930 hours, at Ground Zero. No permit was issued for this event.

• "Times Up" Riverside Ride, on Saturday, August 28, at approximately 2200 hours,Columbus Circle through Central Park to Riverside Park. This event is not beingadvertised as a "critical mass" event, unknown number of participants , potentialto disrupt vehicular traffic with spontaneous direct action. A permit was issuedfor this event.

• "Planned Parenthood NYC" Protest, on Saturday, August 28, 1100 through 1400hours, consisting of a march from the Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn Bridge to CityHall Park. This event is a protest march regarding women 's rights, specificallyabortion . 10,000 persons are expected to participate. A permit was issued for thisevent.

• "Operation Witness" Counter Protest, on Saturday, August 28, 1100 through 1400hours, this event is a march from the Manhattan side of the Brooklyn Bridge to CityHall Park. This event was organized as a counter demonstration to the "PlannedParenthood NYC March." This group will wait on the Manhattan side of theBrooklyn Bridge and follow "Planned Parenthood NYC" to City Hall Park toconduct a counter protest . Approximately 50-100 persons are expected toparticipate. No Permit was issued.

• "American Friends Service Committee" Shoe Display, on Saturday, August 28,1000 through 2000 hours, in Central Park, at Cherry Hill. 40-50 people are expectedto participate. The group will display shoes representing victims of war. A permitwas issued for this event.

• "Wet Anti-Bush" T-shirt Contest, on Saturday, August 28, unknown time, at SheepMeadow, Central Park, west side, Mid Park 66th to 69th Streets. Wet "Anti-Bush" t-shirt contest/water gun fight . No permits were issued.

• "Green Party Reception" event, on Saturday, August 28, 1200 through 1800 hours,at Washington Square Park. This group is hosting reception with speakers andmusic. 1,100 persons are expected to participate. A permit was issued for thisevent.

• Rev Billy "Industrial Workers of The World" demonstration , on Saturday,August 28, 1400 hours at Starbucks located at East 36th Street and Madison Avenue.This event is a labor related demonstration. No permit was issued for this event.

• "Falun Gong" vigil , on Saturday, August 28, 1400 through 1600 hours, at ParkAvenue / East 44t to East 59th Streets. Participants will be stand approx 4 feetapart from one another from spanning East 44th to East 59th Streets.Approximately 800 persons are expected to participate. A permit was issued forthis event.

• "Union Square Middle East Peace Coalition" Protest, on Saturday, August 28,1500 through 1800, at Union Square Park (Southeast triangle). The event is beingheld to raise concerns of peace in the Middle East. Approximately 30 persons areexpected to participate . A permit was issued for this event.

• "Information Liberation Front" Protest Media, on Saturday, August 28,approximately 1700 hours, in front of the Time Warner building at Columbus Circle.The event is being held to protest the RNC at a Time Warner RNC event. A permitwas issued for this event.

• Group "Palestinian Action of Union Square East" (PAUSE) to hold anti-warprotest event in Union Square on Saturday, August 28, between 1500 and 1700 hours.The likely number of participants is unknown.

• "Suffolk Peace Network" to conduct protest walk from Queens to Brooklyn,o See "Other Boroughs"

• Books not Bombs Youth Convergenceo Event is indoors and will be a meeting place/function for youth who will be

organizing protests for the RNC. Event will occur between 0900 and 1800hours at St. Mark's Church - 131 East 10th Street.

• School of the America 's Watch Day of Planningo Event is indoors and hosted by the School of the Americas Watch from 1200

to 1800 hours at St. Vincent Ferrer Parish, located at 1603 Brooklyn Avenue.Event will be a lecture/training session where participants will prepare forRNC protests.

• Anti Racism for a Mass Mobilizationo Event is indoors and hosted by a group calling themselves the "Basement

Cluster". This event is a training session for white activists that will bemeeting for preparation regardin RNC protest activity. Event scheduledfrom 1300 to 1600 hours at 94 9t Street in Brooklyn.

• Living Theatre RNC Protest Workshopo Event will be indoors at a location known as the All Stars Project - 543 West

42ttd Street. This event is workshop based and will include training for "streettheatre" and will likely include props such as puppets and costumes. Thesession will occur between 1300 and 1700 hours.

National Lawyers Guild . Event will be a legal training seminar for activists

participating in RNC protests . St Mark's Church, 131 East 10th Street, from

1600 to 1800 hours.

• Convention Dissension : Perspectives on Balancing Free Expressiono Event will be indoors at the John Houseman Theatre located at 450 W 42nd

Street. Organized by the "New Democratic Majority", this lecture willinclude legal advice and speakers such as lawyers and veteran activists.Group claims law enforcement officials have been invited to attend.Scheduled to occur between 1700 and 1900 hours.

• Pagan Cluster Training Sessiono Training Session to occur at St. Mark's Church, located at 131 East 10th

Street. This training session group will be participating in direct action duringAugust 31St. This event will be hosted by prominent activists (Starhawk mayattend) and will occur between the hours of 2000 to 2200.

• Direct Action Training by Rant Collectiveo Event to occur indoors and will be hosted by prominent activist Lisa Fithian

and her group the "Rant Collective". This event will prepare activists forDirect Action on August 31St and RNC protests in general . Event to occurbetween 0930 to 1200 hours at St. Mark's Church, located at 131 East 10th

Street.

• Non-Violent Civil Disobedience Trainingo Hosted by the War Resistors League this training session will prepare activists

for civil disobedience during RNC protests. This event will occur indoors at

the Westbeth Community Room located at 55 Bethune Street in Manhattan

from 1000 to 1600 hours. This group will participate in civil disobedience

during August 31st

• I-Witness Video Trainingo Event will occur indoors at NYU Law School located at Furman Hall, Room

o At approximately 1130 hours, two male subjects were observed takingphotographs of the United Nations Building from a vehicle parked on theQueens side of the East River.

o The aforementioned incident was reported by a law enforcement intelligenceanalyst visiting New York on vacation. The complainant, who also claims tohave served as counter-intelligence in the military, insists that the subjects weretaking surveillance pictures.

o The investigation is continuing.

Middle Eastern Males Questioned after filming McGraw Hill Buildingo At 1030 hours, security personnel from the McGraw Hill Building, located at

1221 6th Avenue, reported that two males of Middle Eastern decent werestopped and questioned after filming the building.

o The subjects were identified as REDACTEDREDACTED tonal Privacy

o The investigation is continuing.

• Suspicious Male photographing Building in Proximity to United Nations

o At approximately 1200 hours, the manager of 330 East 38`h Street reported thathis workers had observed a male identified as REDACTED

photographing the entrance, exit and access points for the buildings garage latelast night (0330 hours).

o Manager is concerned because several United Nations officials reside at theabove location.

o The investigation is continuing.

• Suspicious Activity reported in Staten Island

o At approximately 1030 hours, an anonymous male reported suspicious activityoccurring at 11 Winfield Street in Staten Island.

o According to the complainant, over the past few months several Middle Easternmales have frequented the residence especially late at night.

o At approximately 1300 hours , members of the 72nd Precinct patrol detained 3male subjects after they were observed video taping the Verrazano NarrowsBridge.

Group calling themselves "No RNC Poster Project " is urging supporters to utilize"guerrilla postering" tactics. The group has provided for download anti-Bush/RNCpolitical posters on its web site. In addition to explaining how to affix posters to wallsusing wheat paste, visitors to the site are also instructed on how to respond whenconfronted by police. The group is part of the anti-RNC clearinghouse group thatmeets at St. Mark's Church.

• Williamsburg residents to conduct press conference, today, at 1330 hours, at 111Berry Street, to call on President Bush to visit closed FDNY Engine Company 212.

• "Suffolk Peace Network" to conduct protest walk from Queens to Brooklyn ,Tomorrow, at 0730 hours the group will gather in parking lot near Shea Stadium andthen walk to McCarran Park (Driggs Avenue and Lorimer Street in Brooklyn).After a brief rally, the group will march to a rally at the Continental Army Plaza(1300 hours), then march to a rally at the military recruitment station atFlatbush and Atlantic Avenues (1700 hours).

• Tent city erected by "Kensington Welfare Rights Union" aka "Poor People'sEconomic Human Rights Campaign" (PPEHRC) in Brooklyn
