BCCI’s zero tolerance for ageand domicile fraud in cricket

Puts additional measures in place including 24x7 helpline

By Ashok Dhamija

In a bid to counter the menace ofage and domicile fraud in cricket, theBoard of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI), which is the governing bodyfor the sport of the game in India willintroduce additional measures whichwill be applicable to all cricketersparticipating in the BCCI age-grouptournaments, from sea-son 2020-21 onwards.

This includes a Volun-tary Disclosure Schemefor all the players who arealready registered. As perBCCI under this scheme, players who voluntarilydeclare that they havemanipulated their date ofbirth by submitting fake/tampered documents inthe past will not be sus-pended and allowed toparticipate in the appro-priate age group level ifthey disclose their actualdate of birth (DOB). Forthis the players have tosubmit a signed letter/email along with support-ing documents to BCCIAge Verification Dept. re-vealing their actual DOBbefore 15th September 2020.

Giving a stern warning to allthose registered players who do notdisclose the facts and are found tohave submitted fake/tampered DOBproof documents, BCCI concernedofficials will then ban such cricket-ers for two years. Further after com-pletion of 2-year suspension, as a de-terrent these players will not be al-lowed to participate in age group tour-naments of BCCI, as well as agegroup tournaments organized by theState Units.

Further BCCI will now only al-low players who are between 14-16years age who will be allowed to par-ticipate in its Under-16 age-group

tournament. As a further check if aplayer's birth is found to be regis-tered more than two years afterbirth, as mentioned in the birth cer-tificate, then there will be restric-tions on the number of years allowedto participate in the BCCI Under-19tournaments

BCCI in fact has introduced adedicated 24X7 helpline(9820556566 /9136694499) for anyoneto report age fraud.

“We are committed toproviding a level-playingfield across all agegroups. The BCCI hasbeen taking steps tocounter age fraud andare now introducing evenstricter measures fromthe upcoming domesticseason. Those who do notvoluntarily disclose theirmisdemeanour will bepunished heavily and willbe banned for two years,”shared Sourav Ganguly,President, BCCI, whichis responsible for ensur-ing that appropriatechecks and protocols havebeen put in place to en-

sure a level playing field for compet-itive participation of players in itsage-group tournaments.

Rahul Dravid, former Indianskipper and coach of 2018 U-19Cricket World Cup Indian team whois currently the Head Cricket, Na-tional Cricket Academy added “Agefraud is a serious matter and is det-rimental to the health of the sport. Many youngsters who are supposedto be playing in a particular agegroup fail to make it owing to agefraud. With the BCCI taking sternactions to curb this, it is only advis-able for the players to come forwardand abide by the directives issued bythe Board.”

Your con-tribution for Railways to make it abetter Railways and the role you haveplayed in making Railways for futureready shall be remembered. In pastfew years, Railways have shown im-provement in their style of working.

In COVID phase, freight trains, parcel trains, Shramik Special trainswere moved. Railways have put inbest efforts to serve the nation duringthe pandemic. Railway employees areno less than Corona warriors. I wouldlike to compliment the staff for put-ting best efforts during the fightagainst COVID.”

It is almost a dailyaffair for me. Peoplewhen they want tocome out of difficultiesby going throughhealing sessionsfor self or any oftheir familymembers, theyask a commonfirst question“how many ses-sions will beneeded to comeout of the theirdifficulties? Toget some claritylet’s understandfew factors.

Mental or behaviouraldisorders can develop

due to:• Known/ Identifi-

able or totally uni-dentifiable rea-sons.

• Sudden shock e.g.death of a belovedone, unexpectedbreakup, mental orphysical abuse etc.

Some key factors thatinfluence time required

for healing:1. Duration of suffer-

ing/disorder. 2. The originating

root causes.3. The most impor-

tant factor is thewillingness to winand fighting spiritof the person goingthrough the chal-lenges. If the per-son is 100% com-mitted, passionateand is willing topay any price forthe complete recov-ery then the ses-sions required be-come very less.

4. Willingness of thefamily members tolearn & change toextend full supportin the healing pro-cess. When familymembers are onlycomplaining andnot willing to learn

Time required for complete healingand change then ad-ditional sessions arerequired to createwillingness and pre-pare family mem-bers support thehealing process.

Few important tips foreffective healing:

1. Never ever give upunder any circum-stances.

2. Once you have em-barked on the heal-ing journey thenplease remain fo-cussed on healing

and not on the timetaken.

3. The person gettinghealed should behelped to accept thathis/her present dif-ficulties are alsocausing serioustrauma to the nearand dear ones.

4. Completely avoidsharing theprogress with therelatives or gossipmongers who areunlikely to under-stand the processand your sufferingsand may demotivateyou.

5. During the healingprocess the familymembers musttake the role of aNurse and theymust strictly followthe instructions giv-en by the therapist.

6. The entire familymust get united, re-main together andmust encourageeach other to fightthe situation. I haveexperienced miracu-lous progress inhealing whereverthe entire familyextended their 100%support and re-mained tightly unit-ed with love andprayers.

7. Never accuse/ insult

the person who’sgetting healed as itwill only make thematters worst.

8. Have unshakeablefaith during thehealing process.

9. Get devoted withthe therapist by fol-lowing the advisesand the process re-ligiously.I have succeeded in

healing many peoplewho were goingthrough serious diffi-culties. They all are

now leading awonderful life.Willingness towin and totalsupport fromfamily mem-bers will helpthe person go-ing through thedifficulties andups and downswith great easeand finally

emerge as a winner. With total devotion, Iam very sure you willbe relieved of your suf-ferings and will suc-ceed in leading abeautiful life ahead.

I would like tohumbly submit thatthe duration of suffer-ings one has gonethrough may or maynot have a direct bear-ing on the time re-quired for healing. Itvaries from case tocase.

Living with hurt isof no use and adds novalue in life hence putyourself in top gearand walk at your ownpace without compar-ing yourself with oth-ers and you will reachthe goal of completerecovery and everlast-ing happiness.

I can assure youthat if you invest 3months of dedicatedtime on yourself un-der the guidance of adedicated healer, thenyou can be healedcompletely. Remem-ber you deserve thebest life. May Godbless you always.

Issue : 50 5 August, 2020Corporate world and Corona

One of the biggest lessons for the corporate world, particularly in the post-COVID-19 era which will have no end till the vaccine arrives, is the need foremotional intelligence in leaders and their ability to demonstrate authenticconcern for their people. Ultimately, we are all human. Amit Shah, BorisJohnson, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Prince Charles, Amitabh Bachchan, TomHanks, Novak Djokovic and several others have contracted the coronavirusinfection. The need to understand the feelings and fears of people will be thekey to leadership success. Sitting in ivory towers and issuing diktats is amedieval culture that needs to be dumped.

Practical education is like a beacon! The result of class X has just been published. Most of the students who

have passed the exam, have got excellent marks. Is this performance of getting high marks really useful for better future of

these students? This is the biggest question of the present time. This isbecause schooling and practical education based on life experiences are twodifferent ways of education. Achieving quality in school education does notguarantee success in life. However, the lessons learned from ups and downsin everybody's life are most important.

The way of life of human beings becomes comfortable due to the educationreceived through many ways such as love for nation, conduct of truth, re-membrance of saintly words, observance of Dharma. Therefore, practicaleducation should be added to school education. In short, practical educationis as useful as a beacon in the sea!

Covid-19- An infectious diseaseCoronavirus (Covid-19) is a highly infectious disease caused by a newly

discovered virus. Most people who get infected withCoronavirus experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover

without requiring special treatment. Older people and those with underlyingmedical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratorydisease and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness.

The best way to prevent and slow down the transmission is be well in-formed about the Covid-19 virus, the disease it causes and how it spreads.Protect yourself and others from infection by washing your hands or usingan alcohol based rub frequently and not touching your face.

The Covid-19 virus spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or dis-charge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes, so it isimportant that you also practice respiratory etiquette (for example, by coughinginto a flexed elbow).

At this time, there are no specific vaccines or treatments for Covid-19.However, there are many ongoing clinical trials evaluating potential treat-ments.

Conservation of water- the need of the hourIt is a common fact that if corrective measures are not taken

immediately, there is going to be acute shortage of fresh potabledrinking water in the near future. There is a need to increase pub-lic awareness on the importance of conservation, preservation andprotection of water resources and drinking water supply. After air, water is the second most essential lifeline for the survival of hu-man beings. Nature created adequate resources for their survival, however because of meddling by the human beings, the resourceshave not only been polluted, they have also been depleted due togross mismanagement. Pollution from land-based sources is greatlyaffecting the aquatic biological resources and biodiversity. Ram-pant use of pesticides is further making the fresh water resourcesunusable.

Though water is one of the replenish able resources, yet due todepleting green cover because of excessive deforestation andconsequent reduction in rainfall, perennial drought like situationhas been created in many parts of our country. It is because of thisreason it has become all the more important to conserve water, besides finding means to replenish the aquifers. While each one ofus can do our bit by conserving water at home and being morecautious while using it, the real solution lies in rainwater harvest-ing, which has to be followed religiously wherever possible.

Rainwater harvesting technique is two pronged. Firstly, by col-lecting rain water from roof tops and open catchment areas andstoring in huge underground sumps and secondly by arresting thesurface run off into the rivers and seas by constructing percolationchambers to recharge the aquifer. The former has a limitation thatit can be adopted only during monsoons. Besides, it requires hugeinvestment by way of construction of water retaining structures. The latter is a long-term solution and shall go a long way in mak-ing this vital resource available for human consumption. Even forplaces like Mumbai/ Navi Mumbai, where sub soil water is notpotable in many areas, collection of surface run off into artificiallycreated lakes after treating them for water retainment, can pro-vide viable solution. This rainwater after treatment can be usedfor all purposes. Further, the sewage treatment plants can be pro-vided in the residential complexes as the recycled water can beused at least for washing vehicles and horticulture purposes. Be-sides, this shall prevent pollution of water bodies into which thissewage would have been otherwise discharged.

It is heartening that many of the schools, colleges and residen-tial complexes are utilizing this technique and are thus contribut-ing immensely in conserving water. The town planning authoritiesshould also implement this in letter and spirit and thus save thehuman civilization from evident disaster in making on account ofdepleting water resources.

A message for peace and prosperity-Raksha Bandhan remembrance

The bonding be-tween a brother and asister is simply uniqueand is beyond descrip-tion in words. The re-lationship between sib-lings is extraordinaryand is given impor-tance in every part ofthe world. However, when it comes to India, the relationship be-comes all the more im-portant as there is afestival called "RakshaBandhan" dedicated tosibling love. This is aspecial Hindufestival which iscelebrated in In-dia and countrieslike Nepal tosymbolize thelove between abrother and a sis-ter.

R a k s h aBandhan is cele-brated on the fullmoon day of theHindu luni-solarcalendar in themonth of Shravanawhich typically falls inthe August month ofGregorian calendar.

Rakhi is basically asacred thread of protec-tion embellished withthe love and affection ofa sister for her broth-er. This day is alsoknown as RakshaBandhan and celebrat-ed on the full moon dayof the Hindu month ofShravana in India. This frail thread ofRakhi is considered asstronger than ironchains as it binds themost beautiful relation-

ship in an inseparablebond of love and trust.Rakhi festival also hasa social significancebecause it underlinesthe notion that every-body should live in har-monious coexistencewith each other.

The festival of Rak-sha Bandhan is entire-ly dedicated to the loveand affection sharedbetween a brother anda sister. On this day, sisters pray for thelong life of their broth-ers and ask God tobless them with hisblessings. Brothers, inturn, give them entic-ing rakhi gifts andpromise to care for lifelong. This custom hasbeen there since timeimmemorial. Variousother beliefs are asso-

ciated with Rakhi andtherefore, people followcertain customs andtraditions to celebratethis festival.

The festival of Ra-khi has taken a broad-er significance world-wide as it spreads har-mony and brings to-gether the family mem-bers under one roof.Rakhi stands for thelove between brothersand sisters, the bond oflove that they haveshared since theirchildhood. This festivalholds immense signifi-cance in India. The cus-

tom of celebrating Rak-sha Bandhan startedin the ancestral periodand even today peopleconsider it a must to ex-press their affection ina traditional manner.Rakhi has strength-ened the bond of lovebetween brothers andsisters.

The festival of Rak-sha Bandhan is ob-served as a symbol ofduty between brothersand sisters. The occa-sion is meant to cele-brate any type of broth-er-sister relationshipbetween men and wom-en who may not be bio-logically related.

On this day, a sis-ter ties a Rakhi aroundthe wrist of her broth-er in order to pray forhis prosperity, health

and well-being.The brother inreturn offersgifts and promis-es to protect hissister from anyharm and underevery circum-stance. The fes-tival is also cele-brated betweenbrother-sistersbelonging to dis-tant familymembers, rela-

tives or cousins. We have to place

Raksha Bandhan inthis larger context torealise that it is notjust a simple functionof tying a love band, applying a tilak onyour brother ’s fore-head, offering himsweets and acceptinghis gifts. The rakhi isnot a bond of love; it isa knot of affection andextending the brother-ly relationship in thebest way possible. The writer is a freelancerbased in Sanpada, NaviMumbai

Mumbai is celebrat-ing its most intimatefestival Narali Punav, which essentially comesfrom the island city’saborigines, the Kolis.Displaced from Dongriwhere the city’s one ofthe three most impor-tant deities MumbaDevi (that keep Mumbaisafe and rich as per thelegends) sits, the Kolis, which literally trans-lates into “the one whospreads the nets,” livedin the city’s various Ko-liwadas or the “humansettlements that open tothe seas,” after the Brit-ish removed them fromDongri where the Mum-ba Devi temple exists, and converted them intoChristianity in largenumbers by the Portu-guese.

Like all Indian festi-vals, Narali Punav cel-ebrates nature -- coco-nut finding a specialplace -- with men andwomen solemnly reded-icating themselves tothe almighty, and wel-

A reflection on the Kolis’ relationship with Mumbaicoming the new fishingseason – the source oftheir livelihood. In thetruly fluid culturalmelting pot that Mum-bai is, Narali Punav hasdances, songs, DJs andsingers like what Fal-guni Pathak is to Dan-dia and Navratri.

As the weather hasonce again broughtmountains of clouds andthe sea waves are roar-ing against the shore, the thought of ‘The OldMan And The Sea’ byErnest Hemingwaycomes rolling down. Acoastal village, a boat

the pulling of the netbrings all the teammembers together.

How much the hu-mans have evolved! How much their skillshave advanced!

But as the city ofMumbai is now thebusiness and financial

hub and a top-rankingcity in the world, thefascinating journey ofthe Kolis into the opensea is on extinction. TheKoliwadas are slumstoday, and they are onthe margins of the city, where people hardlytalk about landscapesbut only about skylines.

On Narali Punav, lord of the sea Varunais worshipped by offer-ing the coconut and allelse that make Indianfestivals so bewitching, endearing and uplifting.

Even though, fish-ing as a profession hasdeclined in Mumbai, the

fishermen psyche seemsto linger on: a wide net,a big catch, the team-work and the big opensea. That’s what makesthe businesses click.

But what fascinates

me most today on thesolemn occasion of theNarali Punav is the re-lationship of the seawith the shore. Irrespec-tive of the size, the seais bound by the coast. No matter how high andwild the waves are, theycrash against the coast-line and split into drops. That’s the power of thebank, or call it by what-ever name you like –coast, shore.

In ‘The Old Man AndThe Sea’, by the time theold man returns to thecoast, only the skeletonof the fish is left as hehas successfully battleda bevy of sharks. In theend, Hemingway com-mits suicide despite allthe positivity he exudesin his book.

Knowing the coastand returning to it is im-portant as it is to knowthe frontiers. The writer is a freelancerbased in Ulwe
