This series of box cars was renumbered to BNSF numbers after the 1996 merger and received this paint scheme with the ‘Heritage’ BNSF logo. #025 00 740…$24.65 This 83’ heavyweight 3-2 observation car is painted Pullman Green with gold logo and lettering. It was built by Pullman Standard in the mid-1920s and runs on six-wheel passenger trucks. A block of eight Plan 3959B “Crystal” series sleeper- observation cars had their air-conditioning applied by the Santa Fe in May and June 1934. The 3-2 observation cars were used on the Santa Fe’s heavyweight “Chief” before 1938. One of them, “Crystal Bluff”, was part of the original heavyweight “Super Chief” that operated in 1936 and 1937. With the delivery of lightweight equipment for the “Super Chief” and the “Chief” in 1938, these cars became obsolete to the Santa Fe. This 83’ Pullman heavyweight 3-2 observation car is painted light Harbor Mist Gray with UP Armour Yellow sides, red ‘Union Pacific’ herald and red lettering. It was built by Pullman Standard in the mid-1920s and runs on six-wheel passenger trucks. The Plan 3959D observation car was the common “end-of-train” car style for many passenger trains throughout the early part of the 20th century. The introduction of the steel cars brought the end of the luxurious, artisan-crafted, and custom designed wooden cars which had been the rule since the 1880s. Pullman’s Heavyweight construction was modular, making it possible for floor plans to economically evolve with the times. Burlington Northern Santa Fe Road Number BNSF 727874

This 50’ rib side box car with single door and no roofwalk is painted brown with white logo and lettering.It was built in 1979, serviced in June 2001, and runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. This 83’ heavyweight 3-2 observation car is painted Pullman Green with gold logo and lettering. It was built by Pullman Standard in the mid-1920s and runs on six-wheel passenger trucks. A block of eight Plan 3959B “Crystal” series sleeper-observation cars had their air-conditioning applied by the Santa Fe in May and June 1934. This 40’ standard box car with double sliding doors is painted green with black, red and white logo and white lettering. It was built between 1947-1948 by Despatch Shops, Inc., serviced in 1962, and runs on Bettendorf trucks. Penn Central’s freight painting practices varied considerably; cars ordered by the NYC before the merger (but delivered afterwards) did arrive with New York Central lot numbers.

This heavyweight depressed-center flat car with concrete column load is painted brown with white Western Maryland herald and white lettering. It was built in October 1941, serviced in 1956 in Hagerstand, MD, and runs on Commonwealth trucks. This flat car has an AAR designation of FD; between 1938 and 1999 the FD designation was defined in the Official Railway Equipment Register as a flat car of special construction having the portion of the floor extending between trucks depressed to provide necessary head room for certain commodities.

It bears the portrait of our 25th president, William McKinley. The car comes with a commemorative pin replicated from this era. McKinley was considered a Civil War hero. He was the third of four US presidents to be assassinated while in office.

This heavyweight depressed center flat car is painted dark brown with white lettering. It was built in 1967, serviced in September 1982, and runs on Buckeye trucks. This heavy duty car, built by Thrall in 1967, has a capacity of 260,000 lbs. and a platform length of 57’9”. The depressed center is 21’ long, one foot shorter than a similar car built by Roanoke in 1948. The color and lettering pattern are post-1982. The depressed center flat cars were designed to handle oversized loads that were too tall to allow passage through standard tunnels.

Union Pacific®

Road Numbers 1468/1468B

These F-7 locomotives are paitned UP Yellow with red horizontal stripes flanking the yellow bands. The roofs and ends are painted gray. Lettering is red and outlined in black. These exciting releases represent the livery of the multi-colored Union Pacific F-Series locomotives. Equipped with Blomberg trucks, many of these 1951 UP units joined the immense F3 fleet and some of the F3s, including these locos, were improved to F7 standards. The UP F7 fleet worked for only 10 to 11 years before they were traded-in for GP30s and GP35/DD35s.

Connecticut State CarRoad Number CT 1788

This 40’ Standard Box Car with plug door is car #38 of a 50-car series representing each of the 50 states in the union. It bears the Mountain Laurel and American Robin, Connecticut’s official state flower and bird. The flag of the state of Connecticut is in the background. The road number 1788 represents the year the ‘Constitution State’ was admitted into the union.

These 40’ wood-sheathed reefers with flush doors and vertical brakewheels are a new bodystyle offered by Micro-Trains. They are painted box car red with reefer yellow sides. They bear a 1925 paint scheme with SP medallion on the left side of the car and the UP “The Overland Route” shield on the right of the car. The end print is white; lettering and hardware are black. They were built in 1907 American Car & Foundry, rebuilt in February 1928, and run on Bettendorf trucks. They were originally built by ACF in 1907 as Class R-30-2 and included as part of the large series 1-6600 (class R-30-1s & R-30-2s). Pacific Fruit Express’s order for the series of 6,600 cars was the largest in U.S. history.

These 40’ wood-sheathed reefers with flush doors and vertical brakewheels are owned by Union Refrigerator Transit Co. and leased to Land O’ Lakes Creameries, Inc. They are painted box car red with reefer yellow sides and fire red heralds. The lettering and hardware are black and end lettering is white. It was built in January 1927, also by American Car & Foundry, serviced in May 1934, and run on Bettendorf trucks. Unlike most other train cars used for butter transport, the Land ‘O Lakes Creamery Company of Minneapolis used their fleet of specially built refrigerated cars to ship only butter in their cars and not other products.
