Road safety By the Full Council of High Oakham Primary
Who we are:
The Full Council support the class councillors in our school. We ensure the children in our school have a voice and are listened to. We meet every Thursday to discuss issues
raised by each class.
Safety is really important for us at High Oakham Primary School. We are all wearing bright clothes today to show you one way to stay safe near
roads. There are lots of other things that need to
be done!
Keeping Safe
Road Safety at High Oakham Primary
Here at High Oakham the Full Council have discussed ways to
make the school and roads outside the school safer for the children, parents and teachers. We have worked with Citizens
UK to look for solutions.
• lollipop lady/man• schools signs on approaching
roads outside to make it clearer that there is a school
• a reduction of speed limit during school hours
• chopping the hedges and trees so cars can see pedestrians near school clearly.
Road Safety at High Oakham Primary School
At High Oakham Primary School we are trying to get the speed limit
down to 15-20 mph between 8:25am - 9:00am and 3:15pm -
3:30pm.
We want all drivers to slow down to 15-20mph so it’s a lot
safer when we are coming in and out of school during the day.
Speed
We have come up with several other ideas like the following:
Changes to the road

What do you think?
There will be a suggestion box which will
be stationed in front of the Road Safety display near the office, so if you have any other ideas on how we can improve our safety, please make sure
you put it in the box.
Raising Awareness
There will be activities available for all of you to do
next week. They will be displayed on the tables near
the Road Safety display. Please help yourself.
Thank you for coming to our assembly.
