Job Title: Assistant Merchandiser (AM) Reporting To: Merchandiser Department: Trading Job Purpose Responsible for optimising category cash income by planning, trading and managing all aspects of their stock to deliver company KPI’s in an efficient and effective manner. Driven to deliver the highest levels of customer service through consistent dynamic management of all aspects of the supply chain from factory to shop floor to maximise, sales, profit and availability. Working with the Merchandiser, the Assistant Merchandiser is responsible for managing all aspects of financial performance of category stock from initial planning through to the Customer. The key role of the AM is to work with their Merchandiser, Senior Trader, Senior Buyer and Buyer to maximise cash margin by trading the stock to generate maximum revenue ensuring the right stock is in the right channel at the right time. Job Purpose

Main duties and responsibilities

1. OTB Working with the Merchandiser to plan and manage the OTB and stock pipeline to deliver

financial KPI’s. Ensure systems and processes are in place to deliver accurate and informative reporting to the

HOM and Merchandiser. Constantly challenge the Trading Team and the Supply Chain Team to deliver the highest ROI on

2. Intake Responsible for ensuring the correct intake to deliver budgeted sales and trade the OTB

accordingly to respond to business needs. Raise all necessary PO’s to ensure Robert Dyas reaches availability targets within the overall

framework of stock KPI’s. Accountable for accuracy and timeliness of all PO’s. Work with the Trading team to minimise business risk through intelligent intake planning.

3. Planning Responsible for managing all aspects of stock lifecycle (stock statuses) from initial creation

through A,D,I and eventually Z, maximising all opportunities to deliver the financial KPI’s and maximising cash margin by efficient management of stock.

4. Space Planning Work with theMerchandiser, Trading Team, Store Operations and Space Planning Team to

develop and agree store range bandings that reflect local demographics and trading patterns that deliver maximum sales and profit.

Work with the space planning team to deliver the agreed ROI and sales density KPI’s.

5. Trading Accountable for all aspects of the financial performance of their category stock. Working closely

with the Merchandiser to maximise cash income through efficient and effective stock management.

Constantly ensure the company’s use of stock delivers to agreed financial parameters whilst challenging the status quo to ensure efficient use of company cash.

Work closely with the Trading Team, Marketing Team and E-Commerce Team to ensure the right stock is in the right channel at the right time.

6. Stock Management Work with the Merchandiser, Senior Trader (ST), Senior Buyer (SB) and Buyer, Trading Team

and Finance Team to develop the annual stock plans, covering cash stock, stock turn, age of stock and profile.

Deliver the agreed financial stock plans by working with the Trading Team to deliver financial KPI’s.

Work with the Trading Team to manage out old stock to agreed targets. Accountable for managing the store and warehouse stock levels to maximise profit and deliver to

agreed availability targets. Working with the Merchandiser, ST, SB and Buyer, the AM is fully responsible for category sales

forecasting ensuring the optimum stock levels are ordered and maintained throughout the product lifecycle.

Working with the Merchandiser, ST, SB and Buyer, the AM is fully responsible for ensuring that all orders are placed in line with sales forecasts and OTB, including maintaining and managing the PO system to deliver the financial KPI’s

7. Availability As a convenience business availability is critical and the AM must be driven to at all times exceed

set availability targets.

8. Financial Planning Work with the Merchandiser, Finance Team and Trading Team to support the development of all

financial plans for the Trading Teams, covering all key KPI’s. Including:o Stock turno Margino Sale and cash margino Store performance

Support the Merchandiser and Trading Team by providing regular performance reviews to assess the performance against agreed financial plans proactively highlight any risk or opportunity.

9. Margin Work with the Trading Team to plan the margin gross and net. Work with the Trading Team to maximise gross and net margin through the lifecycle of product.

Manage all aspects of the intake process, from FOB through to domestic. Ensure all commercial terms are competitive and regularly reviewed.

Work with the logistics team to develop throughput and capacity plans for all intake to agreed KPI’s.

The warehouse is a critical partner in the supply chain and the AM must build a strong working relationship to ensure the whole business operates efficiently and in a timely manner.

11. Financial Stock Performance Working with the Merchandiser to deliver category financial plans. Support the Merchandiser to maximise the stock trading performance for each category.

12. Team Support Merchandiser to implement a Team culture focused on delivery.

Specific Skills and Experience

Experienced multi-site “Assistant Merchandiser” with experience of trading a product range. An aggressive trader willing to take measured risk with stock but also a considered astute Assistant who can be depended on to manage stock to agreed performance targets.

Strong understanding of Multi-channel Convenience Retailing with a proven track record in High Street / Food Retailing

A strong understanding of the life cycle of a product in a seasonally reactive business Experience in financial management of OTB and Stock control. Experience of working in a multi-channel business. A high commercial understanding of the Robert Dyas customer and product range. Experienced in devising and delivering strategic and tactical development, merchandising plans Budget planning and proven track record in Merchandising control and growth Previous roles in Merchandising discipline Previous experience in space planning and planogram management Previous experience in FOB stock management. Previous experience in commercial businesses with high promotional stock cycles.
