Sports Report! After returning from a sunny bank holiday, the PE team were blessed with yet more lovely weather to work in! Tuesday saw our Y6’s taking part in Touch Rugby games for the first time, similar to Y5 last week. Again, some pupils were able to referee their own games! Y4 had a one off Tri Golf lesson, in preparation for a tournament next week. Y3 have also continued their work towards Touch Rugby games, making some good progress! Lower down the school, pupils moved on to working independently at a variety of different skills. This included working with basketballs, bouncing tennis balls, balancing bean bags and many more other challenges! Also this week we took part in the York round of the Y3/4 tennis tournament. Four pupils took part in individual matches, but their scores were added together to make a team competition. The tournament started with a tricky game in our group against Wigginton, followed by three more matches. After the group matches were finished, we placed top of our mini league. We then played against Dunnington in the semi-finals. This then set up a final, again against Wigginton. This time we managed to come out on top, meaning we have qualified for the North Yorkshire finals on the 8th July!!! Well done to the three Y3’s and one Y4 who took part!
This is a photo of the current Lost Property in the Year 3 area - an assortment of sizes, so not all Y3. If not claimed, it will all be disposed of by the 23rd May.

The Summer Reading Challenge runs
in every Explore York Library from mid-July to mid-September and last year children read 63,079 books over the summer. There is a different theme each year and in 2017 it helped 3750 children in York keep up their reading skills and build their confidence by reading the books they like. Over 1 in every 5 children aged 5 - 11 in York took part. Children receive small rewards each time they finish a book and a certificate when they complete the Challenge. The Summer Reading Challenge Fundraising campaign is running from 16th April until 23rd June 18. If you can help please donate at www.spacehive.com/love-children-s-reading-this-summer or for further details or any questions please contact Frances Postlethwaite on [email protected] tel. 01904 554282. Any donations will be appreciated and help the children of York to be readers for life. As one parent said "This has been a lifesaver, my child really wouldn't read but now she reads every night before bed."
