Responsible for all format editing, tracking reviews, guiding manuscripts through online manuscript submission and tracking system (ScholarOne), setting review protocols, running reports and setting monthly lineups and issue compilation. First line of communication and assistance for authors, reviewers, senior associate editors and co‐editors‐in‐ chief. Developed and continuously improve marketing strategies for HSR, which include tables of content dissemination, press release promotion, internal and external newsletter writing, developing a strong social media presence and exhibiting at pertinent society meetings and trade shows. Develop and manage journal budgets. Coordinate with multiple governmental and private health care-focused agencies to develop and finance special issues. Oversee and execute editorial board contracts between HRET and executive editorial board members (and academic institutions/affiliations, as required). Track working queues of regular and special/theme issue articles and manuscript proofs, archiving published papers and ensuring HSR has a healthy pool of accepted but unpublished manuscripts from which to draw. Work with guest editors to develop and manage no fewer than two special/theme issue supplements per year, drafting and disseminating any resulting calls for papers and processing invoices related to payment to HRET/AHA. Improved and maintain strong relationship with publisher to develop and meet production guidelines and schedules. Plan, organize and host annual editorial board meeting and dinner, the location for which changes yearly. The Spine Journal North American Spine Society July 2008 – Burr Ridge, IL May 2013 Managing Editor Ran The Spine Journal (TSJ) editorial office, displaced from the editor-in-chief, based out of Stanford, CA. Began as sole member of editorial staff, responsible for all format editing, inviting/tracking reviews, guiding manuscripts through online manuscript submission and tracking system (EES), running reports, setting monthly lineups and managing busy office email accounts. Later, as the journal grew, trained additional in‐office and remote editorial assistants, assigned tasks and evaluated progress. Worked with guest editors to develop and manage publication of special focus issues. Aided in launching several new features in TSJ, including a new commentary section, an Evidence & Methods editors’ notes box for clinical studies and a monthly 4‐page spread of abstracts from other journals in the multidisciplinary spine care field. This last feature meant cultivating relationships with many spine‐related journal and society offices around the world to obtain and retain reprint permissions. Organized and oversaw annual Editors’ Choice and Outstanding Paper Awards. This included the coordination of editorial board voting, creating marketing plans to promote winners and organizing presentation schedules.

Wrote press releases for major TSJ events, including improving Impact Factors, deputy editor promotions and the Outstanding Paper Awards. Strategized with public relations staff to ensure adequate coverage made its way to media outlets and other NASS publications.

Managed social media presence of TSJ on NASS Twitter and LinkedIn accounts.

Edited and organized NASS’ annual Proceedings – a TSJ supplement issue comprised of nearly 350 paper and poster abstracts presented at the Society’s Annual Meeting.

Annual Meeting duties included writing and copyediting pieces for the show daily newspaper, registering attending press for the meeting and developing marketing materials for the NASS resource center.

Facilitated annual executive editorial board meetings, working with the editor- in-chief and NASS publications director to set agendas, coordinate travel, schedule meals and provide the board with appropriate meeting materials, including comprehensive manuscript and reviewer statistics.
