Introduction to electronics

• Resistors• Capacitors• Semiconductors (Diodes, LED,

Transistors, IC’s )• LDR• Photo(cell, transistor, diode)• Regulators• Measuring instrument (AVO)

Resistors

• A resistor is an electrical component that limits or regulates the flow of electrical current in an electronic circuit. Resistors can also be used to provide a specific voltage for an active device such as a transistor.

• How to know value of resistor ?!• From the known table of colours.

Variable resistors (pot)

Capacitors

• A capacitor is an electronic component that stores energy in the form of an electrostatic field.

Used for:• Smoothing and filtering• Storing energy

Symbols

• Unpolarized

• polarized

• variable

Semiconductors

•Diodes

Transistors

• Use as amplifier and switch.

Some forms of it

Integrated circuits (IC’s)

LED’S

LDR• LDRs or Light Dependent Resistors are very useful especially

in light/dark sensor circuits. Normally the resistance of an LDR is very high, sometimes as high as 1000 000 ohms, but when they are illuminated with light resistance drops dramatically.

Regulators

• A dc power supply is an essential component in any electronic system .

• Constant voltage regulator 780x , 790x.

• Variable voltage regulator (lm317,lm117,lm318,lm150,lm138).

Schematics

• For constant voltage regulators:
