TheSmithRiverAlliance(SRA)isanonprofitconservationorganizationfoundedin1980toprotectandrestorethenaturalresourcesoftheSmithRiverwatershed.Programsoftheorganizationinclude:advocatingscience-basedmanagementofpubliclyownedwatershedlands,conservinghabitatthroughpurchase,andpromotingandimplementingrestorationandstewardshipprojectsacrossthewatershed.
SRAownsRockCreekRanch,whichservesasameeting-retreatdestinationandanenvironmentaleducationfacilityforchildren,youthandadults.TheorganizationhoststheSummerAdultFishCountandothereventsthroughouttheyear.AranchhouseisinfrequentlyrentedtogenerateincomeandanOutdoorUseAreaincludesakitchen,solarshowers,compostingtoilets,yurtandcampsites.TheRanchalsohasanorchardandanorganicgarden.
RockCreekRanch(RCR)isinaspectacularsettingontheSouthForkSmithRiverabout20milesfromCrescentCity.PowerisgeneratedfromaSustainablePowerSystem,whichincludesbothmicro-hydroandsolarcomponents.

RCRisa175-acrepropertylocatedontheWildandScenicSouthForkSmithRiverabout20milesfromCrescentCity.Theranchhousehasbothwoodheatingandapropanefurnace.PowerfortheentirepropertyisgeneratedfromaSustainablePowerSystem.Theranchservesasameeting-retreatandenvironmentaleducationdestinationforchildren,youthandadults.ThefacilitiessupportSRAprogramactivitiesandisrentedtogroupswhoutilizetheranchhouseandtheOutdoorUseArea,whichhasakitchen,solarshowers,compostingtoilets,yurtandcampsites.
RCRhostsvisitorsyear-roundincludingschool/collegegroups,guidedfishingtrips,kayakersandrafters,andworkpartiesduringtherainyseason(OctoberintoJune).PeakvisitationoccursbetweenJuly1andSeptember30th.Role
TheCaretakeratRockCreekRanchplaysakeyroleinmanagingandmaintainingthefacilities,landscapingandsystems,includingtheSustainablePowerSystemonthe175-acreproperty.Overall,theCaretakerisexpectedtomonitoractivitiesandfacilities,greetvisitors,providehospitalitysupport,recruitandsupportvolunteer/serviceprojects,provideadailypresenceconsistentwithmissionofSRA,andcoordinatetheworkoflaborersandvendorsasneeded.TheRanchhasapart-timestaffofuptofour:aCaretaker,laborers,andpowersystemsadvisor.TheCaretakerworkscloselywiththeManagementTeamtoprioritizemanagement,maintenance,planningandhostingfunctions.Dependingonskillsandexperience,theCaretakermaybeinvolvedinreservationsandlandstewardshipprojects.
QualificationsPersonalcommitmenttoconservation,recyclingandteamwork;Willconsiderapplicationsfromindividualsand/orcouples;Mustbecomfortablewithsomesolitudeinthewinterandfrequentvisitorsinthesummer;Excellentcommunicationskills;Familiaritywithalternativepowerandsustainablelivingsystemsaplus;Basiccarpentryandlightrepair;Computerliteracyincludingproficientwithemailandbasicword-processing;Abilitytooperatemaintenancepowerequipment,whichmayincludelawnmower,hydraulicsplitter,andchainsaw;Self-starter,quicklearner;effectiveatsettingpriorities,organizingworkload,andmeetingdeadlines;Flexible,detailoriented,independentworker,andalsoabletoworkwellwithateam;andPossessionofavaliddriver’slicenseandcurrentautoinsuranceisrequired.Physical&MentalRequirementsofJob:Alljobfunctionslistedaboveinvolvetoagreaterorlesserdegreethefollowingphysicalandmentaldemands:closevision,hearing/listening,clearcompletespeech,touching,finger&handdexterity,walking,lifting,carrying,sitting;mustbeabletolift25lbs.,perception/comprehension,exceptionaljudgmentanddecision-makingskills.ResidencyRequirementandGuestCaretakerProgramTheCaretakerwillresideintherecentlycompletedCaretaker’sunit.Asdescribedabove,theCaretaker’spresenceattheRanchisessentialforsecuritypurposes,tohostvisitorsandsupportprograms,andtoensureproperoperationandmaintenanceoffacilitiesandsystems.SRArecognizestheCaretakerwillneedtime-offandtimeawayfromtheRanch.Tothisend,theExecutiveDirectorwillworkwiththeCaretakertoestablishaworkschedule.Wealsohavea“GuestCaretaker”programwherebyexperiencedindividualsarerecruitedtostayattheRanchasGuestCaretakerstherebyenablingtheCaretakertotakescheduledtimeaway.
