Mercy Regional Medical Center hosted several events on Thursday, June 23 in honor of Sister Carole Anne Griswold, vice president of mission integration, Mercy, who celebrates her 50 year Jubilee. Sister Carole Ann has been a leader in health care in Lo-rain County for five decades. “From her first days as a young nurse caring for pediatric patients to her current role of keeper of the Mercy mission, Sister Carole Anne has been a caregiver, teacher, counselor and true leader in our community,” remarked Edwin Oley, president, Mercy. “We honor her for her unwavering dedica-tion to the patients and families we serve in Lorain County. She has truly been a guiding light for our organization.”

Events held on the campus of Mercy Regional Medical Center included the commemorative planting of a dogwood tree (wood of the cross) and presentation of plaque in the hospital courtyard, a procession to the chapel and rose pre-sentation along the journey and ceremony within the hospi-tal’s Wicken’s Chapel. Hundred of hospital workers and friends then attended a tea to honor Sister Carole Anne in the Cafeteria. It was a loving tribute to Sister Carole Ann, who has served the com-munity as a pediatric nurse, nurse manager, consultant for mission and Catholic identity and nursing instructor. She re-turned to Mercy full-time in 2001 when she was hired as an officer of mission and values. She was promoted to her cur-rent role as vice president of mission integration in 2004.

It was a Fourth of July highlight for the City of West-lake as officials from Westlake’s sister city – Tralee, Ireland – spent a long weekend in town enjoying the sights and sounds of American freedom as Mayor Dennis Clough and his wife, Virginia, served as hosts. Taking part in grand tours of Westlake, the West-lake Fourth of July parade and Liberty Fest at Crocker Park were Tralee Mayor Councillor Grace O’Donnell and Devel-opment Officer John Griffin. “We are just delighted to be part of this celebra-tion. It is a fantastic city,” said O’Donnell as she met with the Cloughs and founding father Leonard Porter (played by Mel Maurer) at the start of the July Fourth parade at Westlake High. Clough and O’Donnell shared a lovely ride down Hilliard Blvd. and enjoyed the well-wishes of resi-dents as the parade matriculated to Clague Park. The night before, Mayor Clough presented Mayor O’Donnell with the key to the city as part of the Crocker Park Liberty Fest. They then enjoyed a great patriotic concert by the Cleveland Pops orchestra and fabulous Crocker Park fireworks display. What a great way to celebrate freedom!
