The kids have really loved learning about worms and making their worm farms. I have heard lots of talk about worms and what they learned during their session. It is great to see a couple of year levels focusing on worms and their benefits to the environment during their learning program this term. Thanks to Mrs Mills-Poilly for making it all happen! Last Wednesday aſternoon, we held a very enjoyable and successful aſternoon of acvies to celebrate our mums, aunts, grandmas, and even some dads! There was biscuit decorang, dancing, facials, lego building, a photo booth, Japanese origami bookmark, loom bands, and coffee & tea. It was fabulous to see so many of our school community come along and join in the fun. Thanks to Mrs Magowan and Sarah for making it happen, and all our staff who volunteered at the staons. Thanks to the P&C for their wonderful Mothers’ Day stall and for organizing a magnificent hamper as first prize in the raffle. We really appreciate your support of our campus! NAPLAN NAPLAN tesng is on this week for our Year 2 to 6 students. The assessments test skills in literacy and numeracy that are developed over me through the curriculum, and provide the crical foundaon for their learning. Results should be considered alongside the comprehensive informaon that your child’s teacher has about their learning and progress. Year 3 and 5 students will get their results at the start of Term 4. Walk Safely to School This Friday is ‘Walk Safely to School Day’. Children are invited to walk to school by 7:45am and join in with some fun fitness acvies with Mr McCurrach on the soccer oval. A yummy breakfast of cereal, juice and fruit will be served from the basketball court for everyone who joins in. Many thanks to Mrs Magowan, Mr McCurrach and our wonderful staff volunteers for coming to school early to prepare breakfast, serve all the yummy food, and for washing up aſterwards. Thanks to IGA Rockingham for their generous donaon of the breakfast food. ICAS Student Tesng All Year 4 to 6 students were tested on the Digital Technologies assessment last Tuesday as part of our whole school data collecon. The results will help us to plan more effecvely to build our students’ skills in the gaps we idenfy by analysing test results. All children will bring home a report of their test results later in the year. Scholasc “Read Aloud More in May” Every year during Naonal Family Reading Month, Scholasc holds an excing reading challenge as part of the celebraon. This May, the focus is on families reading aloud together for at least 10 minutes a day. Kids are never too old for read-alouds. Research shows that across all ages, regular reading aloud with family members is a powerful predictor that children will become frequent readers, and that kids love it. Children need to keep a record of who they ‘read aloud’ with on Scholasc’s reading log up unl Thursday 31 st May. Log your entries on the website hp://www.scholasc.com.au/nfrm for a chance to win great prizes for your child and their teacher. Naonal Simultaneous Storyme We are celebrang Naonal Simultaneous Storyme on Wednesday 23 rd May at 9am. This year’s book is ‘Hickory Dickory Dash’ and our whole school will join together to share the reading, along with many schools around Australia. Please come along to the Undercover Area to join in if you are free. We would love to see you there! Salvaon Army Red Shield Appeal On Friday 25 th May, we will once again be supporng the Salvaon Army’s Red Shield Appeal, a really worthy cause with the cooler weather upon us. Your children are invited to wear red for a gold coin donaon. Raising just $55.00 will help fill a few bellies with a meal and a cup of tea. $120 helps the street team with petrol for the van and $240 will help someone in crisis with accommodaon. “Determined” Set and work towards goals Persevere and work hard Be a movated and focused learner

School Photos Our school photos will be taken on Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th May. Children will bring home a timetable of when classes are scheduled to have their photos taken. Sibling photos need to be ordered online and will be taken during the lunch break.

Family Coffee Chat This term’s Coffee Chat is on Monday 28th May at 8:40am in the staffroom. We will be sharing with you some of the books and resources we use to help children learn to read and continue to love reading – in honour of National Family Reading Month. We would love to hear about all your favourite books you have shared with your child. It is fairly relaxed and a great way to meet other mums and dads. Everyone is welcome so save the date!
