Rocklin Academy Fundraising Committee In a continuing effort to keep you updated about the importance of Local Education Foundations (LEFs) and how it relates to you, your child, and your school, the Board appointed Fundraising Committee will publish weekly informational pieces.

Characteristics of a Successful Local Education Foundation (LEF)

• Well informed and enthusiastic Board members. (We will be recruiting for this soon!). • Programs that meet the needs of the schools and community. (Think about our “wish list” from

Superintendent Spears.). • Specific goals and an action plan for implementation. (This translates to ACCOUNTABILITY!). • A good working relationship exists between the school administration and all stakeholders, including our

community. • Fundraising efforts annually that increase the endowment, (such as an annual giving campaign at the start of

each school year, gala event with a higher ticket price that is sold to community members as well as school stakeholders, auction events, etc.).

• Ethical accounting practices and an annual audit. (TRANSPARENCY!). • Publicity that informs contributors and community of needs and successes. • Consistent recognition of grant recipients and contributors. • The LEF is established as its own entity (separate from the school/board) to ensure neutrality.

To learn more we invite you to attend one of the Fundraising Committee’s meetings or contact the Chair, Jennifer Salib at [email protected] or Vice Chair, Kim Dvorak at [email protected] with your thoughts and suggestions. Meetings are held at 5:30 p.m. prior to the regularly scheduled Board of Directors meetings at Western Sierra Collegiate Academy.

How to Sponsor a Scholarship Decide on the amount No amount is too small! Small donations can be grouped with others to form a special award.

Decide on your focus Is this a memorial award to honor a loved one? Is this a scholarship for a student pursing a specific career or area of study? Is this award for a student with a specific talent or skill?

Establish your criteria Finalize the details about which students should apply for your scholarship. Things like minimum grade point average, activities or whether or not your scholarship winner must attend a four-year university must be decided.

Give us a call Contact Western Sierra Collegiate Academy scholarship coordinator. You can write every detail of your scholarship, or we can do it for you.

We will make it simple for you to offer a scholarship, but you have control over what happens to your money.

Local Encouragement Students at Western Sierra are very well-qualified for college. Yet, many Western Sierra students will not qualify for significant amounts of federal or state financial aid. A Western Sierra College Bound scholarship might be the only financial aid many of our students receive for college. Exclusive to WSCA Students By sponsoring a scholarship through the College Bound Scholarship Program you will see your generosity transferred directly to a Western Sierra student.

You Select the Recipient You may interview your applicants or select them from the application. Or You may also choose to have the College Bound Scholarship Committee select on your behalf.

Sponsor a Scholarship

THE COLLEGE BOUND SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Verification of Enrollment Students must provide verification of their full time college enrollment before scholarship money is released.

Gratitude Scholarship recipients write letters of thanks to the scholarship sponsor before their scholarship is released.

Share the Wealth Philosophy Each scholarship sponsor is given the option to name an alternate for the scholarship. We Can Help You can be creative in planning a scholarship, and we will guide you along the way.

To honor the memory of a loved one A memorial scholarship is a wonderful way to honor the memory of a loved one.

To promote a field of study or business You can offer a scholarship to students who are following your field of study or pursuing a career related to your business or industry.

To honor achievement You may offer a scholarship for any individual achievement.

To honor skills or talents You may offer a scholarship to recognize a student’s individual talent, skill or ability..

Other ideas We welcome your additional suggestions of how to honor our graduates with scholarships.
