TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE The Rocklin Academy Family of Schools is in the process of establishing a Technology Committee made up of teachers, administrators, and parents from each site. Doug Johnson, Rocklin Academy Board Chair, will serve as the initial chair of the committee whose objectives will be to assess our current technology needs, evaluate our support mechanisms, and plan for future technology adoptions. Parent involvement is a critical part of our effort and while we plan on conducting user and parent surveys, we would like to have a parent from each school on the committee. Parents will join teachers and administrators from each site as well as current technology personnel. Our objective is to have an assessment and draft technology plan that can be integrated into future budget planning. I anticipate having 6-8 meetings over the course of the next several months. A more permanent form of the Technology Committee will be established as part of our effort to meet the ongoing technology needs of our schools. If you are interested in serving on the Technology Committee, please contact Doug Johnson at [email protected]. DEC. 6 TH - 6 TH GRADE HOLIDAY “MAKE & TAKE” GIFT BOUTIQUE! Also, the space we are using is large and requires a lot of lighting. Please contact us if you have a generator we can borrow for the event: Jen Terry (916) 316-5499 or Felicia Kluessendorf (916) 521-9691. Thanks so much!

ROCKLIN ACADEMY DRESS CODE POLICY We have noticed some students are attending school with dyed hair. Please note, per our Dress Code policy in our Parent/Student Handbook, “Hair shall be clean and neatly

groomed. No colored hair spray may be used. Extreme hairstyles are prohibited. An extreme hairstyle refers to any hair coloring that is unnatural, or an extreme haircut such as a mohawk, etc.”

Also, if a student is wearing a zipper hoodie which zips through the hood, they may not zip the hoodie all the way up to the top of the hood and wear it as a mask while at school.

SCHOOL YEARBOOK ART CONTEST

“One For All”

The Turnstone Yearbook Committee invites all Rocklin Academy students to create a drawing to promote the 2013 yearbook theme and showcase school spirit. One winner from each grade will have their winning entry printed in the yearbook. The most creative entry will also become the cover of our 2013 yearbook!

This year’s theme is “One For All” CONTEST RULES:

• Use standard 8½ x 11-inch paper in portrait orientation (create a picture taller than it is wide).

• Do your best to fill up the entire page. • Make the artwork as colorful as possible. • When creating your artwork, be thinking about our Rocklin Academy community. • Please keep in mind our school colors: forest green and gold. Remember our school mascot is

the eagle. • Artists may use crayons, markers, pastels, paint, colored pencils or a mix of these mediums. • Please put your name and your teacher’s name on the back of your drawing. • Only one submission per student. This is not a group project.

Please submit your entry to your classroom teacher or to the RA office by:

Monday, December 10th

Mrs. Stout will pick the winning entries and our cover. Good luck! RA Yearbook Committee

Volunteer Needs! Please read to see how you can help:

Reward Coordinator: This Coordinator will find local businesses to donate gift cards and prizes for our ISP and renaissance rally rewards. E-waste Co-Chair Event Coordinator: PSP is looking for a co-chair that will work with Tony Tingler, a Rocklin Academy dad, to help him plan and run an E-waste recycling event. This would be an ideal position for another dad that wants to get involved. Some lifting could be required. Technology Grant Research Coordinator: PSP will be purchasing technology this year for our classrooms. There are many grants available that can be researched on line. We need someone to volunteer their time searching for grants to match PSP's spending on technology. Technology Grant Writer: PSP is looking for a volunteer that can work with Administration to write a technology grant for our school. They will work with the Research Coordinator to find the best grants to apply for. This will take a person with good writing skills and a willingness to research how to successfully write a school grant. This will be a huge benefit to our kids’ school and we really hope we can find someone within our parent group to write a grant this year! Please email the PSP if you are interested at: [email protected]. Thank you! E-Waste Recycling Program: Our school is partnering with a great company called E-Waste 4 Good. They are an e-waste recycling company that helps schools raise money by recycling e-waste. You can log on to their website at www.eWaste4good.com to schedule a pick-up at a residence, business or other location. They cover all of northern California so your family or friends from all
