from Diamond Lake and officials from the Forest Service to bet-ter define the boundaries on Mt. Bailey and to make it a more cooperative and much safer for both snowmobilers that use the mountain along with skiers that use Mt Bailey Sno-Cat skiing. I will have more on this at the October meeting. (Thanks guys for communicating our concerns to everyone there.)

As I am writing this letter we are planning for the last two phases of the generator building next to the cat shed. Concrete will go in the weekend of Sept. 11 and the building will be done on the 25th of Sept. Anyone that can pound a nail or bend one is invited.

In closing, I would like to thank each and everyone that contrib-utes their time, their effort and their money to making this a very successful snowmobile club

Groomers Corner (Note: This article was written in May but never got published)

There is still lots of great riding snow up at 1000 Springs, it’s just going to be tough getting up to it. This last week-end you could still get there by going up the 60 Road to the first intersec-tion and unloading there. There were just a couple small gravel spots head-ing towards the Rock Top side. How-ever, there is a lot of gravel if you stay on the 60 Road going towards Huckle-berry. It was all gravel under the can-opy, but after that was great snow. Still 10 feet on the snow pole and after this next storm, probably more. If you see Dobe, ask him about the two gals that spent the night stranded stuck in the snow in their little Subaru down near the Whiskey Creek Trail. It’s always hard to predict what’s around the next corner or rise in the trail ahead of you. We are pretty much done grooming for this tough snow season. It would be difficult to get the Idaho up to the snow without damaging the coating on the roller. We did end up with just over 1078 miles with 217 hours of grooming. Let’s see… it takes me 4 hours to drive to Portland…well time wise… never mind! It’s a lot of time

(GROOMERS CORNER CON’T) in the seat for such few miles that we get. Which leads me to my next point. I have to say again thank you to all the individuals that help me out this year. Dobe, Ken Curtis, Brian Watson, Gene Bowl-ing, Jon and Tiffany Allen, Chuck and Sherry Allen, John Wojtas, Chuck Biegert, Mark Duncan, Bob Guthmiller, Blair Grinols, and Arlen Henderson. We really missed Mike Schmidt this season. He was out with a torn rotator cup in his shoulder. He said that he’ll be ready for next season. If I missed your name, I’m sorry. I tried to write everything down with year, but I still found myself forgetting things. And, thanks to everyone else who supported our riding area even when the snow conditions were flat out crummy! And as usual, Prospect Hwy Maintenance Station did a great job keeping our roads and parks open this season. Thank you all! I couldn’t have done my job without all the wonder-ful support I received this last year. -Jim Gulrich

The membership voted this summer on whether or not we should spend the money to improve the CAT shed with an addition. We felt that this addition was necessary due to the noise and fumes that the generator produced that was harmful to our volunteer groomers. The member-ship voted unanimously to go ahead with this project. The work began in August and early September. As I type, they should be

Work Parties For The CAT Shed Addition putting the finishing touches on this project. We want to thank all the volunteers who gave of their time and those who donated items to this project. We are a very lucky club that has so many people who are willing to pitch in and help when & where needed. It’s not too late to pitch in. We have a general work party scheduled for October 23rd at Thousand

Springs. Come meet some new people while cleaning up and repairing our shelter, gathering, cutting and stack-ing firewood, cleaning the highway and any other mis-cellaneous things that may need to be done. There are things to do for all ages and genders! Come have a good time with us!

Summer is over and although we have had a great summer as a club, I look forward to snow! In August we had a great club campout at Howard Prairie. We had all kinds of fun boating, jet ski-ing, fishing, kite flying and just plain hanging out together. Gene Bowl-ing came up on Saturday and pro-vided us with a great breakfast. There was so much food we invited the n e i g h b o r i n g campers! Also in August, we hosted a thank you BBQ for the Search and Rescue team. They thoroughly en-joyed the BBQ and we are al-ways thankful for their volun-teer service they provide us. We are currently in the midst of our 3rd annual blood drive. This year the Slopes and Trail club and the Hawg Club have joined the challenge with us, the MRA and the Southern Oregon Nordic Club. D&S Harley kicked off the drive by hosting a blood drive at their shop. We welcome and thank all the clubs for participating in this annual drive.

Coming up on October 5th is our first meeting for the year. This is always a fun meeting as we catch up with other snowmobil-ers that we haven’t seen all summer. Mark Duncan and Paul-Hildebrand will be cooking the meal for

the night so it will be excellent (as always). October 9th will be our annual swap meet at Central Equipment. There is no charge to bring all your goodies and snowmobiles down to the swap meet. At the same time, Central Equip-ment will have their open house. Come down and

check out the new snowmobiles and pick up some great bargains. On October 24th, Wa-terworld will host their open house. They will have great bargains as well as all the new models on display. Check the sched-ule for times for both these open houses.

October 23rd will be our annual work party where we will fill the

w o o d -s h e d , , m a k e r e p a i r s to the she l ter , clean up the high-way and do other miscella-n e o u s

chores. There is something to do for all ages so bring the whole family and enjoy a fall day in the

mountains! Mark your calendars for the Snowmobile Safety Class for kids and adults. It will be the only class this year and will be held on November 6th at D&S Harley. I look forward to a great snowmobile season with lots of fun stories to share with you. I can’t wait!

FREE CASH!! At our last general meeting, Ted Dole from Wa-ter World presented the Rogue Snowmobilers with a check for $920.
