Sliding panels can make a spacemore or less private at any time of day
“We don’t want this home to be so dark,” was their greatest wish.
The set-up of this duplex, which is 15 meters deep and 5.5 meters wide on the ground floor, and only 3 meters wide on the top floor, along with its original partitioning, which revolved around hallways and light-blocking dividers, made it all the more clear why they wanted to live in a brighter home.
We proposed changing up the location of almost all the functional spaces in the home. Similar uses were placed close to each other with remo-vable divisions that allow light to flow freely.We placed the living area and the kitchen, pre-viously located on the east side, on the west façade of the bottom floor, thus bringing the di-ning, reading and living rooms together.
The ROLLGLASS system allows a connecting sliding door to be placed between the kitchen and the dining room, installed between two fixed
sheets of glass, creating a full floor-to-ceiling glass panel that separates the kitchen from the dining, or connects both spaces, according to their needs.
We then placed the two children’s bedrooms on the east façade looking out onto the building’s in-terior patio. Separated from each other and from the living area with mobile panels, the bedrooms can be connected and turned into a single space that can in turn be integrated with the rest of the home.
The SLID system presents as a mobile partition thanks to its Top Retrac system, which reveals a single floor-to-ceiling panel.
By moving one of the top floor bedrooms to the bottom floor, we were able to create a top floor free of harsh divisions, dedicating this space to the couple’s bedroom, a dressing area and a small study. Thus, a series of sliding panels allows the homeowners to regulate privacy levels throughout the day and enjoy all 15 meters of depth with zero obstacles.
