His father was a Polish Jew named Richard Liebling. He took surname Polanskiafter divorce with his first wife. At the time, he was in Paris, where he metRussian Jewess, which will leave her husband for him. Richard will marry her,and in 1933 she will give birth to a son, which name should be Raymond

Liebling, but who will become Roman Polanski, world known film director.Roman was born in Paris, where his parents met, but, in 1937 Richard decidesto move back to Krakow, in Poland and soon after that, will become clear howdisastrous decision that was. Two years later Nazis will kill Roman's mother andhe and his father will survive. Although his father survived, Roman was growingup alone. He spent childhood on the streets, in the dark of cinemas, and deathwas breathing right behind his neck, almost all the time.

Formally, Oliver Twist is movie based on Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist, but,in fact it's autobiographical movie. Almost the same can be said for Pianist, movie based on autobiography of Wadysaw "Wadek" Szpilman, Polish pianist even more, in this movie, connection with life of Roman Polanski is moreobvious.

Although Polanski denies any trace of autobiographical in his movies, commondenominator for more than half of his movies could be Death and the Girl: fromKnife in the Water, over Chinatown and The Tenant to Frantic and Bitter Moon.Life of Roman Polanski is marked with death of young girls from his mother tohis wife.

Right after he graduated, becomes ultimately famous with Knife in the water.

Scene from that movie was on Times cover on September 20th of 1963.Polanski gets the chance to work in England, where he meets Sharon Tate who didn't delighted him at first sight. In spite of that, he gave her a role in hisnext movie The Fearless Vampire Killers, and they became lovers. Soon afterthat Sharon Tate will become his wife.

After wedding couple moves to California, where Paramount engages Polanskito film Ira Levin's novel Rosemary's baby. Charles Manson with his followerskilled pregnant Sharon Tate as epilogue of this, a bit satanic, movie.

This incidence will change Polanski's attitude to women: he will constantly go

through superficial affairs with younger women, trying not to tie emotionally.

In 1976 he had affair with 15 years old Nastassja Kinski who he will photographsoon for magazine Vogue. As that was successful project, Vogue engaged himagain for photo session, which will result with accusation for the sexual assaultof 13 year old Samantha Geimer.

Polanski photographed her in Jack Nicholson's house, and what happened lateris defined by American law as statutory rape. In short, Polanski flees to France, and from that time, he is wanted in America.

In Europe he will film Tess, and later Frantic movie where main role will playEmanuelle Seigner. She will become last Polanski's wife ( at least for now ).
