    HOW-TO:

    ROMANSHADESWHAT YOU NEED

    Plastic blinds*

    Scissors

    Fabric**

    Fabric glue

    STEP 1

    Unclip your plastic

    blinds, pull them out to

    their maximum length,

    and lay them on the

    ground.

    STEP 2

    Now were going to

    create the skeleton that

    will hold your fabric in

    place. Leave every tenth

    blind intact, but cut and

    remove the rest of the

    blinds from the fixture

    using your scissors.

Youll need to cut alongboth sides of the pulley

    system that controls

    the blinds in order to

    get each blind outjust

be sure not to cut the

    actual string.

    STEP 3

    Spread your fabric on

    the floor, and place your

    blinds on top. (They

    should still be pulled

    out to their maximum

    length.) Cut your fabric

    to fit your blinds with

    an extra 2-inch border

    all the way around.

    STEP 4

    Take your fabric glue,

    and make pinky-nail-

    sized dots every inch

    or so across the entire

    length of your top blind.

    Rotate the blind by

    hand, and adhere the

    glue side to the fabric.

    Work your way down,

    repeating this step at

    every blind.

    STEP 5

    Wrap the extra 2 inches

    of fabric over the two

    long sides of your

    remaining blinds. This

    should create a clean

    edge down the entire

    length. Once youve

    double-checked thestraightness, glue the

    folded-over fabric to

    the edges of each

    blind, one at a time.

    STEP 6

    You cant wrap the

    fabric around the top

    or bottom of your

    blindsit will keep them

    from working properly.

    Instead, fold the fabric

    so that the fold lines

    up with the top edge

    on top, and the bottom

    edge down below. Glue

    along the fold and

    stick it directly to the

    front side of the blind,

    making sure you have

    a clean, defined edge.

    STEP 7

    Let your blinds dry

    completely, about one

    hour. Then clip the top

    portion back into place.

*Keep in mind that if you

    convert the blinds provided

    by your landlord to Roman

shades, youll need toreplace them when you

    move out.

    **Sturdier fabrics work best

    for this. Avoid anything too

    sheer that will allow your

    glue dots to show through

    even though they dry clear.
