THE RISE OF ROMANTIC MUSIC
Because of the French Revolution and the Napoleonic
Wars, aristocrats could no longer afford musical luxuries.
Romantic composers wrote primarily for a middle-class
audience
The rise of the middle class led to the formation of many
orchestras, opera groups, and subscription concerts.
The piano became a fixture in every middle-class home.
