Now look at the mock exam sheet
in front of you. This is what you will get in your
controlled conditions
assessment.
Remind yourself of Act 1 Scene 1 in the text and in one performed version of the play...
Using this scene as a starting point, and referring to Shakespeare’s play as a whole, explore how the character of either Tybalt or Benvolio is portrayed in the performed version you have studied. You should consider: the thoughts and feelings that the character express the way the other characters react to them the dramatic effect of the scene and its implications for the rest of the play.

Spider diagrams can be useful for visual Learners and people who need to write their ideas down before they can put them into an order.
Lists can be useful if having clearly, visual structure helps you see your essay emerging.
Whatever your choice, make sure you number your points to ensure your work is structured.

•His decree sets up the idea that we may see more fighting later and if
so, there will be death and tragedy.

CONTROLED CONDITIONS 1: practise writing an answer
You have 40 minutes to write your answers.
Formal supervision Under formal supervision, candidates must be under direct supervision at all times. Candidates should have clean copies of texts during the assessment period. Internet and e-mail access should not be permitted. It is advisable that the Centre records the date and time if the assessment, the name of the supervisor and keeps a log of any incidents which may occur during the course of the assessment. Candidates are allowed access to dictionaries, thesauri and spell checkers in completing controlled assessment tasks.
