High Point is a contemporary house built to the highest finish and specification, set in a woodland landscape with an unrivalled panoramic view. The house is situated on The Ridgeway, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, an ancient trackway that is closed to passing traffic and that dates back 4000 years. The surrounding area has some of the most beautiful countryside found in the Chiltern Hills for walking, riding or mountain biking, what ever takes your preference.

High Point’s living areas are designed to enjoy the breathtaking situation while it’s construction materials keep it at one with the natural environment. Black elm solidity contrasts with the transparent glass elements whilst paying homage to the surrounding woodland setting. Traditional details have been adopted wherever possible, especially visible are the hand struck steel nails of the beautiful elm cladding. When in the mood, relax in the hot tub whilst your eyes feast on the panorama.

The sawn York stone paving of the upper terrace descends down a similarly adorned staircase to the hot tub area with its aromatic lavender planting. High Point’s two acres of garden blends seamlessly into the landscape ‘BORROWED SCENERY’ & ‘THE GREAT WITHIN THE SMALL’ are two fundamental concepts within Japanese garden design.

The adjacent main entrance area has double height volume with a glass balcony.

The approach to the principle bedroom wing at High Point is via a link that incorporates a vast storage area and a complete second kitchen with a utility area serving this level of the building.

In this area is a media room that is currently wired as a home cinema or alternatively can be used as a recording studio.

An example of the Petersen Brick

The crowning element of this part of the building is the vast roof terrace, open only to the view. The principle bedroom wing is built in a Roman Brick format by Petersen, this material contrasts beautifully with the black elm of the main house and although adjoining is completely self-contained.

Page 10: Roof terrace with uninterrupted view, a unique lookout
