Georgia Performance Standard-ELA7R2-In an effort to increase vocabulary, students will acquire and understand new vocabulary and use it correctly in reading and writing. (ELA7R2b.Students will use knowledge of Greek, Latin, and Anglo-Saxon roots and affixes to determine the meanings of unfamiliar words. ELA7R2d. Students will determine word meanings through the use of definition, example, restatement, or contrast.)

Each student will be assigned a root word or affix (suffix or prefix). The student must define the root or affix and state information about its origin. Locate five (5) words that contain the root word/affix. Define each of the five (5) words. Use each word in a sentence (try to use words in a compound, complex, or compound-complex sentence); illustrate each sentence with a colorful drawing, clip art, or pictures from a magazine. The root word/affixes project should be organized and neatly presented on a poster measuring at least 18X24 inches.

Your work will be graded based on content (contains all of the elements stated above); mechanics (check grammar, spelling, capitalization and punctuation); appearance (neatness, organization); and visual illustration (colorful drawings, pictures and clip art). The project counts as 100 points toward a performance task.

The root word/affixes project is due November 3.
