Swing on my branchesLet me hear your laughter
Here, take my applesThey will feed you for days
And lie in my shadeSo I can care for you
I will be holding you throughThe various storms of life
I am rooted in loveWhere I am planted
As you come and go,I will still stand in the meadow
Where I have always stoodWhere I will always stand
Waiting for your return

Rooted in Our Baptism
Invitation to Baptism Sam Union
Today we are invited to gather at the water’s edge as both witnesses and participants.
We remember that through the waters of the sea you led your people Israel out of bondage into freedom in the land of your promise.
We remember that Jesus your Son was baptized in the waters of the Jordan and was anointed as the Christ by your Holy Spirit.
We rejoice that you also claim us in our baptism and by your grace we are born again.
Let us listen once again for the voice from heaven naming us the beloved children of God, connecting us to all who have felt the waters of baptism soaking them in grace.
God, drench us in the living water of your love. Immerse us in the depths of life in your Spirit. Raise us to walk in new life with you. Amen.
Ordinance of Baptism Jim Dant and Mary Carol Anderson
Candidate: Harris Davis
Baptismal Promise Seanna Johnstone
I am now in a relationship with God – God who loves me even when I cannot love myself. I recognize that on my own I could never reach the height of God’s plan for my life; I need God’s mercy and grace. Having experienced Christian baptism to symbolize the death of the hold sin had over my life, I am raised to new life as a follower of The Way, professing that Jesus is Lord. I promise to live in response to God, growing into the calling I have received and sharing the love, mercy and grace that God has shown me. I am part of a community in Christ, a community that embodies a love for Jesus through loving one another – everyone is loved and sacred in the eyes of God. How glorious to accept and share this love!
Song of Celebration “You Are Welcome Here” Mark Burrows
Am I welcome here? Am I safe to sing or laugh or shed a tear? Will I be loved the way I am? Will friends be near?
Am I welcome here? You are welcome here. You are safe to sing or laugh or shed a tear.
We love you just the way you are, so have no fear. You are welcome here.
You are welcome here. This is a place of peace and grace, where all God’s children have a home.God’s reign will come, God’s will be done when all are loved and no one stands alone.
All are welcome here. All are safe to sing or laugh or shed a tear.God loves us just the way we are, so have no fear.
All are welcome here.I am welcome here.

Rooted in Communion
Invitation to the Table Grace Restine
The table of bread is now to be made ready. It is the table of company with Jesus and all who love him.
It is the table of sharing with the poor of the world with whom Jesus identified himself. It is the table of communion with the earth in which Christ became incarnate.
So come to this table, you who have much faith and you who would like to have more, you who have been here often and you who have not been for a long time; you who have tried to follow Jesus and you who have failed; come.
It is Christ who invites us to meet him here.
Prayer for Communion Hampton Bryant
Loving God, through your goodness we have this bread and wine to offer, which has come forth from the earth and human hands have made. May we know your presence in the sharing, so that we may know your touch and presence in all things. We celebrate the life that Jesus has shared among his community through the centuries and shares with us now. Made one in Christ and one with each other, we offer these gifts and with them ourselves, a single, living act of praise. Amen.

*Invitation to Offering Celie Ann Rollins
I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love. I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. (Ephesians 3:16-19)
Offertory Prayer Austin Fayssoux
Musical Offering “Like a Tree” Ellen Woods Bryce Arr. Mark Edwards
I put my trust in Christ alone because he loves me so. His love has taken root in me, and he will help me grow.
Like a tree planted by a stream, when the days are hot, all its leaves are green. In a year without a drop of rain, there’s no fear, it remains planted by a stream.
And as I learn to trust him more, his Spirit makes me strong, and helps me know his deep, deep love, how wide and high and long.
Rooted, grounded in his love, feeding of his Word. By his Spirit growing strong and bearing fruit.Let my roots grow deep into his Word, for his Word is always sure.
When the wind grows high, and storms arise, my life remains secure

Our Service of Worship has ended. Our Worship through Service begins.
Today is Youth Sunday, the day in the life of First Baptist Greenville when our young people in grades 6-12 lead in worship. Before departing worship today, see how some of our youth show that they are rooted in their gifts. In the Narthex are some pieces of art from members of our Youth Family. The artwork on the cover of the order of worship is by Jack Rollins, and the reflection for worship is a creation of Camila Rueda Torres and Jefferson Williams.
Bella Davis and Leira Johnson are the acolytes today.
Judy Snyder is our guest organist today. Judy serves on the Ministry and Education Formation Committee. She and her husband, John, sing in the Sanctuary Choir and have three children and 5 grandchildren.
The service choir is Vocare. Today they are under the direction of Vivian Hamilton and accompanied by Judy Snyder on piano and Catherine Crowe on violin.
Youth strings, directed by Catherine Crowe, are violins: William King, Grace Restine and Kyle Sease; violas: Ellie Joye and Larsen Quattlebaum; and cellos: Carter Fayssoux and Hannah James.
The Rooted banner was created at the Youth Family’s Fall Retreat at Rockmont. The Youth Family’s theme for this school year is “Rooted.” They are on a journey to explore what it means to be Rooted – in their gifts, in their God, in their stories, and in each other as Youth Family.
Communion Committee members scheduled to prepare today include John and Martha Burwell. Anne and Tedd Garner are scheduled to provide the gluten-free bread
Baptism Committee members scheduled to serve today are Jan and Mike Houston.
The cedar root on the baptistry today belongs to Becky Ramsey. Her father pulled it out of a peat bog while doing research in Eastern North Carolina in the 1970s. It is at least 10,000 years old.
The flowers placed in the Sanctuary this Sunday are given by the Youth Ministry in honor of the youth of FBG whose energy and enthusiasm enable us to dig deeper and soar higher than we ever imagined and the Youth Sunday School teachers and the Youth Committee members whose dedication and support throughout the year strengthen all of us – Youth Family and youth leaders.
