Selected Prayers for the Year, we Belong 2018-2019 Pastoral Plan Prayer Loving God, we believe that everyone is a gift and belongs to your family for we are made in your image and likeness. As a community of believers rooted in Christ, may we always celebrate your presence with us and appreciate both the gifts and responsibilities of belonging to this community of faith. Through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the intercession of Mother Mary, and all the Saints, may we become all you intend us to be— a reflection of Christ in our world. We pray through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For our Neighbours “Love your neighbour as yourself.” – Romans 13:9
Lord Jesus, Every day as we travel to school we see many other people going to and from their homes. Please bless these people who are our neighbours. Help us to remember to smile at them when we meet. Amen. About Belonging The ‘tall tree’ does not stand alone on the plain, but stands inside the forest. Loving God, Thank you for the gift of our school community. Thank you for the teachers who care for us and help us learn. Thank you for the friends who help us to know that we belong. Amen. For Families God, You are the Father of the whole human family. You love each of us, and you love our families. Please help those families that are going through a bad time. Help me to be kind to everyone in my family, even when I may not feel like it. Amen.
Reflection: Who in your family can you help this week?

Respect for Differences Almighty God, You used a whole rainbow of colours when you created human beings. The people in my class have different eyes, noses, hair, and different shaped faces to me, but they are all your beautiful creations. Help me to enjoy the differences between me and my friends, not just in how they look, but in how they think and speak. It makes life so very interesting. Amen.
Reflection: Can you name all of the different cultures at your school? Responsibility for Others “Jesus keeps knocking on our door in the faces of our brothers and sisters, in the faces of our neighbors, in the faces of those at our side.” – Pope Francis
Jesus, You are my brother. You are there for me when I am happy and when I am sad. Help me to be a caring person to those around me, at home and at school. Help me bring your love to others every day. Amen. (Taken from: http://www.caritas.org.nz/system/files/SJW2017%20Prayers%20%28Y1-4%29.pdf)

A Prayer of Belonging
Loving God, You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. (Psalm 139:13-16) Lord, I choose to believe your Word of truth, that I belong to You, that I always have a home in Your blessed heart, that every promise you have uttered in your Word is true for me, that I am not an exception to your lavish grace and provision. I belong to you and you belong to me. Thank you. Amen. Culled from: http://www.beliefnet.com/columnists/prayerplainandsimple/2015/07/a-prayer-of-belonging.html#OADKgC6J58O4DGA8.99
A Prayer for Belonging to the Earth
Spirit of Life, remind me of my deep belonging to this world. May I know in my bones my true place in the family of Earth. Just as the roots of a tree belong to the soil and microbes, and the branches of that tree belong to the wind and birds that come to perch, may I know my own deep roots and wide branches as belonging to a greater forest of life. As such, may I know regularly the gift of grace, and act whenever I am able in service to the whole. Amen.

Suggested Songs for the Year, We Belong 2018-2019 Song choices for liturgies are an important way to reinforce the themes of the liturgical season, the readings that are being used for the day, and the actual parts of the mass (Welcoming, Offertory, Communion, Sending Forth). They can also help us to reinforce our values as they are reflected in our TCDSB Pastoral Plan,Rooted in Christ: we Belong, we Believe, we Become. These song suggestions below are offered to help in enhancing the theme of our first year, We Belong. This is by no means an exhaustive list. However, these songs are chosen from Catholic sources, and are fitting for use in liturgies.
