It was a pleasure to meet with the Junior Leadership Team and hear their ideas for the year ahead. This group have been trained as lesson coplanners and have been working very meaningfully with staff to help shape lessons which reflect the students’ learning styles and preferences. In addition they have lots of ideas for community projects and ways in which the student body can help to improve the school environment. We have restructured our House system to give greater opportunity for student leadership and I was delighted to see the immediate impact of this, with a fantastic House picnic lead by our House Captains. It was brilliant to see students from all age groups sitting together, competing in tug of war and dancing in the sunshine! (Photos on page 4). I am grateful to all Year 11 parents who joined us for that year group’s Information Evening this week. A reminder that there are Information Evenings for Years 12, 13, 7, 8 and 9 next week and that all the information from these is posted on our website. I apologise that I am not able to attend all of these next week, because of clashing governor and county meeting commitments. As you may be aware the government provides additional funding for students who receive Free School Meals. We know that there are many families that are eligible for these, but who do not claim for them, sometimes because they don’t realise that they could receive this benefit. If you would like us to confirm whether you are eligible, please contact us with your National Insurance number and we should be able to put this in place for you. Finally huge thanks to the PSA team and Year 7 students and parents for demonstrating great resilience in attending the picnic on Saturday on the only autumnal day of the last two weeks! Our staff link to the PSA is our Senior Teacher Ms Saul and she goes on maternity leave today. We all wish her the very best for the next few months and look forward to meeting the new addition to the Rosebery family! Have a lovely weekend Ros Allen @Rosebery HT Blog: headteacherroseberyschool

Glyn Surrey SCITT

September marked the exciting launch of the Glyn Surrey SCITT Programme (School‐Centred Initial Teacher Training),

which this year will be led by Rosebery in‐conjunction with SCITT partnership schools. SCITTs provide trainees with an

integrated  training programme which  includes: classroom experience, professional studies and subject knowledge

enhancement. SCITTs offer an alternative route  into teaching and educational research suggests that school‐based

training  is highly effective. Many of  the  trainees will be appointed as qualified  teachers within SCITT partnership

schools and so the programme provides significant recruitment opportunities at a time when appointing teachers is

proving exceptionally challenging.

For  2016‐17,  we  have  26  trainees  studying  across

9 subject  specialisms.  Each  trainee  is  supported  by  a

highly‐skilled network of experienced trainers, mentors

and  assessors  from  across  the  SCITT  partnership,

providing  comprehensive  support  and  guidance,  as

trainees make their first steps into the profession.

During the course of the year, the SCITT hosts a number

of Get into Teaching events and the first to take place

this year is on: 18th October, 6.00pm‐8.00pm at Glyn

School. Anyone who is interested in either primary or

secondary teaching is warmly invited to attend.
