Transition Programs Include
● Curriculum Night for parents/guardians
● Orientation programs for 5th grade students
● Articulation meetings between middle and elementary schools
● 6th grade counselor is at all CSE/504 meetings in Spring 2021
● Summer orientation for incoming 6th graders (end of August)
● Counselor leads classroom activities in the Fall

Role of a School Counselor
● Advise students/parents on academic planning, career exploration, and social-emotional development
● Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to identify academic and social/emotional needs
● Provide individual and small group counseling● Classroom counseling lessons on topics such as career
exploration, goal setting, and growth mindset

Meeting with the Counselor

Lunch Groups
● All students, beginning in the Fall, are invited to participate in lunch groups
● Each group meets during lunch periods once a week for a 6-8 week period
● Groups include: Middle School 101, Current Connections, scrapbooking

Teaming
A “Team” consists of the School Counselor and the following teachers:
● English● Math● Science● Social Studies● Special Education
Students are divided into 2 teams (“Team 61” and “Team 62”) which allows for test planning, assemblies, and field trips.
