ROTACOD Absolute encoders
• Absolute encoder generates a digital signal related to the position of a rotary axis
• The value of the signal is transmitted to a control logic that manages the received data
• In presence of a power supply fail the physical position is not lost
• The zero setting of the mechanical part is required only in the initial installation
• No batteries or memories required to keep the position absolute value
Working Principle
• The source of signals is a disc with a grated design forming tracks
• Tracks have zones where light can pass through and obscured tracks through which light cannot pass
• The light emitted by a lighting source go through the disc and is collected by a photo-diode on disc’s other side
• While disc is rotating the photo-diode detects light variations, switching the output signal on and off
ROTACOD Absolute encoders
• Using multiple tracks, the combination of On and Off of the single tracks generates an absolute value of position
• As power is turned On, this value position is read from tracks and immediately sent to the output circuit
• If disc has 12 tracks then 212 positions (4096 info/revolution) are available.
• No repetitions of combinations of 1 and 0 are present on disc (unique code).
• The main disc uses a Gray code as pattern

• Value is read by the control and used for positioning and control of motors installed on the machinery
