Air Power & Hydraulics manufactures a range of semi-

rotary actuators under the Torko brand. Available in carbon, stainless steel, and alloy materials, they are ideal

for industrial marine & subsea use and in applications

where high strength, corrosion resistance or hygiene are paramount factors. Load holding valves and end of stroke

cushioning are available.

The robust rack and pinion design of Torko semi-rotary

actuators provides constant torque drives in situations where large rotational angles and small envelope

dimensions make cylinders and linkage mechanisms impractical. Torko actuators are available for any degree

of rotation.

Principal features on Torko actuators include full

length rack bearing, heavy duty bronze pinion bearings, +/- 2.5º angular adjustment at the end of each stroke,

female drive pinion bores and keyways and 210 bar working pressure. The range embraces 10 sizes with

output torques from 1Nm/bar to 444 Nm/bar . All actuators are supplied with nitrile seals for mineral oil,

water/glycol, water in oil emulsions and HWB fluids, as

standard. T orko subsea actuators have additional seals and body drain port or compensator with relief

valve, depending on the hydraulic system.

Clients may choose between intermediate angles of rotation, multiturn actuators and spring return fail safe

units. Alternative mounting styles to suit customer specifications include spigot location and male output

shafts. Other options include pneumatic seals, end of

rotation cushioning, seals for phosphate esters and other special fluids. Special materials, such as 316 stainless steel

can be supplied. In addition, continuous electronic rotational feedback via potentiometers and transmitters

is available.

We recommend the installation of a dual overcentre valve

close to the actuator service ports to avoid shock loads being applied to the actuator end stops where load

runaway occurs. When this is a possibility, the relief valve should be set to reflect load conditions to a maximum of

210 bar.

The Torkam is a new generation camera pan and tilt

actuator unit for underwater ROV’s. The design eliminates trailing electrical cables from the base actuator

to the camera actuator , requires no drain line and

provides the user with a single non-moving interface for all connections. Output torque is 0.7 Nm/bar.
