President's MessageDear Rotarians, Well our new Rotary year is here. I am excited about leading this club aswe continue to “Be a Gift to the World.” I want to congratulate Ryran on afabulous year and thank him for the leadership he provided our club. Ryran, you have been a star quarterback for our team! I also want to congratulate those who received club awards. You haveworked hard as Rotarians and your efforts were rewarded. Thank you foryour dedication and service to the ideals of Rotary. We have a talented group of Board of Directors and Committee Chairsworking hard to make this year an exceptional year. I ask for your support and commitment in attendance and with club service projects planned for this year. It's going to take all of us working together to make this year great. We have an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those in need in our community, nation, and worldwide. In the words of John Bunyan, “you have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.” To me, this is the definition of a Rotarian. My pledge to you is to be a servant leader while working hard to achieve our goals for Rotary International, District 6900, and the Rotary Club of Barnesville. Thank you and God Bless You!Kelly Hughes,President

My Rotary Momentby Missy Kendrick

Many of you know that I have a twin sister, who I love more than my Prada handbag. (For the gentlemen, that means I love her A LOT!!) But more than the love that I have for her as my sister and soulmate, I have a tremendous respect for her, as well. She is older than me by six minutes, and as the eldest (HA!) she was the first to get married and hadchildren 8 years before me. Therefore, she experienced allof the motherhood moments, both good and bad, beforeme and has been a constant advisor and mentor for me. We both entered the professional world about the sametime, with her taking on part time jobs to be with herchildren, and me working full time without children. Overthe years, we both progressed professionally, with hermoving into leadership positions and me buying and sellinga few businesses while working in the Chamber/EconomicDevelopment field. The point is that we always shared ourlives with each other, so when I first became a Rotarian inWarm Springs, I told her all about it. Then again, with thePeachtree City Club and the Barnesville Club. I shared our projects, events, goals, leadership positions and called to brag when I was recognized for something (you can do that with your twin without it being arrogant!). A couple of years ago, she began the process of becoming a State Farm Agent for Bainbridge, which was a tough road, to say the least, and I lived every moment of it with her. So when she finally got her contract, I was waiting by the phone for her to call and give me the news. After some tears and laughter, we began to talk business, with her getting advice from me for a change, about tweaking the business plan that we had put together. Then it happened. She asked me how she could join Rotary. There was a moment of silence where I could not believe that I had never shared that with her. In that moment, she told me that she wanted to experience Rotary the wayI have, and that she wanted to give back to the community and help those who needed help through service with her local club. That she wanted to be able to tell people that she was a Rotarian and a Paul Harris Fellow like me. That is the moment that I became a Rotarian, instead of a member of the Rotary Club. Then I told her that she would never catch up with me, but I would help her get started!!

What is in our Future? There are several events coming up for our club. Mark these dates on your calendar! If you have an event you want to add to the list let a club officer know.
