• Nick Chudoschnik - ‘Open Family” - Spoke about his work as a street
outreach worker and how they deal with youths and adults between 18-25 years in VIC, NSW & ACT. They deal with family breakdowns and work closely with them to help with education, employment and housing. There are 35,000 homeless people on any given night in Australia. Nick said they never give up on them and aim to get them back into the community. They deal with anger, sexual problems, drugs
and behavioral issues on a daily basis. Diet and exercise is in important to rehabilitate these people. Club Members
will vote next week on a proposal approved by the Board to donate $35,000 to ‘Open Family’ towards equipping a ‘Nosh Bus’ This is a mini van and will be equipped with healthy food packs, clothing, toiletries, exercise equipment, couches etc.
• Mark Watt, CEO of Whitelion then rose to thank us for our ongoing support. He said that the Nosh Bus will be a new thing in Melbourne to help young people. Whitelion is now in partnership with other companies who are supplying goods. Combining with ‘Open Family’ will cut costs and make it easier to operate. We have to spend more time talking to families and parents of these troubled youths. He also encouraged Members to support Bail Out.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT
SECRETARY’S ANNOUNCEMENTS
Secretary Bill HowleyPresident Tom Buxton
• Pres Tom welcomed all especially our speaker Inspector Brooke
Hall of Victoria Police. It was great that he was able to come along and our Club does value
its close association with Victoria Police through the Rotary Police Mentoring Program. Chairman for the evening PP Julian Goglia works with closely with Brooke in the Mentoring Program.
• Tom also welcomed his first cousin Carolyn Cox all the way from Independence Missouri, the hometown of Harry Truman, President of the United States from 1945 until 1953. Carolyn’s mother was a Buxton who met a GI from Chicago and as they say “ THE REST IS HISTORY”. Carolyn had to come tonight as Helen is away and she told her “If you want a meal you better go to Rotary”!!
• Next Thursday (12 April) we are having a combined meeting with our daughter club Brighton Beach, so this should be a good opportunity to mix and mingle. Tom said he owed an apology to the Editor for forgetting to tell him to publicise it in his magnificent Bulletin.
• Talking about the Bulletin - David Smyth had an excellent article on the Violence Free Families program which Tom urged everyone
to read.
• Also in the Bulletin was an ad for Brighton North’s “MAKE A DIFFERENCE DINNER” at International Receptions (see back cover). This will be a real fun night with ‘Coodabeen’ star GREG CHAMPION as Compere and entertainer - this is their biggest Fundraiser for the year and they are really looking for support from us. If anyone would like to join Helen and Tom please let him know !! He made an impassioned plea last week and so far with a ZILCH RESULT!
• We had an induction for a new member, a person Tom has got to know and like very much over the last couple of years Kavin Crundle. Kavin, PP Ivan Vojlay and Jim Donnelly came forward
so that Tom could induct Kavin into our Club. (see presentation previous page).
“Those ‘Berg’s’ sure stick together!”- commented one member in reference to Erik
Vandenberg presenting raffle prize to Sven Bredenberg.“Is Jack still with us?”
- asked Sgt Peter looking for Jack.“Happy with your ugly mug?”
- asked Cameron Ward offering to replace member’s photos in current Member’s Directory.
“Ride the journey with us,”- implored Insp Brooke at the end of his talk.
“You can pin it on together!”- said Julian when Ivan & Jim were jostling over who
was going to pin the club badge on Kavin.

I would like to advise the members that we have a treasure situated in the Dendy Theatre. It is the mighty Wurlitzer organ which has been restored to it’s former glory.
Some time ago the Club made a donation towards the restoration costs which has been carried out principally by volunteers who are members of the Victorian division of Theatre Organ Society of Australia.
On Sunday May 27th commencing at 1.30pm there will be a concert when the local and very talented Tony Fenelon will provide a variety of music suitable for all ages.
This magnificent instrument is part of Brighton and we are very lucky to have such a rare instrument in our city.
Please give serious thought to supporting this concert. In doing so, you will assist in helping to maintain this valuable organ for the benefit of the Brighton people.
