Driveline InstallationRefer to: Figure 1-3 & Figure 1-4The tiller driveline is coupled to the tractor and implementshafts with either push pin couplers, pull collar couplers,or a combination of both and with a slip clutch on one endto protect against shock loads.

Always engage PTO at low engine rpm to minimizestart-up torque. Drivelines with friction slip clutchesmust go through a “run-in” operation prior to initialuse and after long periods of inactivity. See“Driveline Protection” on page 17 for detailedinstructions on maintaining the slip clutch.

If the Rotary Tiller is used on more than one tractor, anadditional driveline may be required - especially if a quickhitch is used.

! DANGERDo not engage tractor PTO while hooking-up and unhookingdriveline or while someone is standing near the driveline. Aperson’s body and/or clothing can become entangled in thedriveline resulting in serious injury or death.

! WARNINGDo not use a PTO adaptor with a quick hitch. A PTO adapterwill increase strain on the tractor’s PTO shaft resulting inpossible damage to shaft and driveline.

! DANGERAll guards and shields must be installed and in good workingcondition at all times during tiller operation!

! WARNINGAlways disengage PTO, engage parking brake, shut tractorengine off, remove switch key, and wait for tines to come to acomplete stop before dismounting from tractor.

! WARNINGDo not over speed PTO or machine breakage may result. Sometractors are equipped with multispeed PTO ranges. Be certainyour tractor’s PTO is set for 540 rpm.

IMPORTANT: The driveline must be lubricatedbefore putting it into service. Refer to “Lubrication”on page 22 for detailed instructions.

IMPORTANT: Drivelines with friction clutches mustgo through a “run-in” operation prior to initial useand after long periods of inactivity.See “DrivelineProtection” on page 17 for detailed instructions.

General Operating InstructionsBefore using your Land Pride RTA25 or RTA35 SeriesRotary Tiller, you should have completely read theOperator’s Manual, properly attached the Tiller to thetractor, cut the Drive-line to proper length, Run-in theclutch, and gone through the Operating Checklist. If youhave missed any of these steps, please complete thembefore proceeding.

Now that you have properly prepared yourself and yourtiller, it’s time to do some tilling. Carefully drive the tractorto the site where you intend to till. You should havealready cleaned this site of any large limbs, rocks, trash, metal, or extraneous debris. Best results will be achievedif you have mounted your tiller offset to the left far enoughto cover the tread of your left tractor wheel. Line thetractor up just to the right of center on your tillage plot. You will be working from the center out and alwaysturning to the left to line up for your next pass. Lower thetiller half way to the ground and reduce your tractorengine speed to about one quarter throttle. Engage thePTO and gradually increase the engine speed until youreach full PTO speed of 540 rpm. Lower the Tiller to theground and simultaneously commence forward travel ofapproximately 2 mph. Do not make turns or attempt toback up while tiller is in the ground. See important notebelow.

Travel about 50ft. and then stop to check your results. When stopping, remember to lift the tiller out of theground, stop the tractor, reduce engine speed, disengage the PTO, set the park brake, shut off thetractor, and remove the keys. If you are tilling too shallowor too deep, adjust the skid shoes accordingly. If the soiltexture is too coarse, lower the leveling door and reduceyour ground speed. If the soil texture is too fine, you willneed to raise your leveling door and increase yourground speed. For any other problem conditions that mayarise, you will want to refer to the Troubleshooting sectionof this Operator’s Manual.

When you are done tilling for the day, make sure you useproper tractor shut down procedures before you get off ofthe tractor. If you are detaching your tiller, make sure youpark it on a dry and level surface leaving it clean andready for the next use. When you put your tiller up for theseason, make sure you refer to the Storage Directions inthis Operator’s Manual.

With a little practice and a few adjustments, you will soonbe achieving the results you want with your Land PrideRotary Tiller. See “Features and Benefits” page 26 or“Specifications and Capacities” page 24 for additionalinformation and performance enhancing options.

IMPORTANT: Turning or backing up with rotarytines in the ground will damage the tiller.

Features Benefits

American made Many tillers are imported. American made means better parts availability.

Tractor HP Range (RTA25 = 25 - 55 HP) And (RTA35 = 35 - 75 HP)

Gearbox Warranty 3 Years on housing, gears, shafts, seals, bearings. Shows our confidence in the product.

Working widths (RTA25 = 62" & 70") And (RTA35 = 76") To meet specific customer needs

8" Digging depth For extra deep soil penetration and cultivation.

Stamped upper hitch plate Stamped plate adds additional strength to hitch.

Hitch bolted toinside of support

Force is applied downward on top hitch, by bolting hitch to inside of support. Keeps hitchfrom ‘spreading’ outward.

Clevis Style Lower Hitch Allows easier hook-up of lower 3-point arms.

Hitch Offset capability Offset 5" by moving lower hitch points to cover right tire track.

Fits Land PrideQuick-Hitch

Allows for quick and easy one person hook-up. Offset can not be used with Quick-Hitch.

Adjustable Parking stand Allows for easy hook-up and storage.

Adjustable skid shoes Control depth with various settings.

Wear shield or left skid shoe Shield protects lower portion of chain cover from wearing due to dragging in the soil.

Formed rear deflector withsprings

Forming gives deflector additional strength. Springs allow deflector to '‘bounce'’ whenobstructions are hit.

Rear gate down pressuresprings (optional)

Forces the rear gate down to level even better. Easy-to-adjust chain tightener Cast ironchain tightener is a simple bolt adjustment to keep constant tension on the chain.

Four or six tines per flange Six tines go through the ground better than four.

“C” Tines C Tines take less horsepower to move through the ground.

Rotor swing diameter (RTA25 = 17") And (RTA35 = 19") For deep tilling action and turning the soil over faster.

Double lip seal on rotorbearings

Double lip seal helps keep the dirt out and the grease in.

Cat. 3 driveline withslip-clutch protection

Heavy driveline for rough conditions. Slip-clutch protects other drive train components andsaves having to replace shear bolts.

#100 Drive chainenclosed in oil bath

Heavy-duty drive chain reduces stretching, oil keeps constant lubrication and holds wearto a minimum.

Stamped chain cover Stamped forming adds additional strength.
