ROTR Dominican RepublicWORK . WORSHIP . WITNESS | JUNE 26-JULY 3, 2018Welcome to the Dominican Republic ROTR! We’re excited that God has laid it on your heart to join us on this special overseas service trip. Thank you for taking this first step in joining us for another year! ROTR DR is a life-changing, culturally immersive experience that takes place in the heart of the capital of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo. We partner with the Cen-ter for Transforming Missions which takes care of our housing, food, project materials, project details, and transportation. For those of you traveling overseas for the first time, this will be a new experience! You’ll notice some similarities to the U.S., but other things will be completely different. That’s the fun part of a trip like this!

RISE will provide you with a journal before we leave to allow you to process your thoughts each day. We’ll give you time each day to let God reveal things to you while you’re in the Dominican Republic. Write them down in your daily journal so that when you get back home you’ll have them to look back on and remember your amazing trip.

Projects will take 3-4 days and will likely be one or two of the following: painting, mixing/pouring concrete, block work, and light construction. These projects are done for Christian schools, churches, and/or families in need. The team will also

have the opportunity to do some sightseeing that will include historic sights, other ministries, local shops, and the beauti-ful beaches of the DR. We, of course, will also have plenty of opportunities to interact with local Dominicans, especially kids! The end of our time in Santo Domingo is marked with an outreach event for one of the poorest communities in the city that features local praise and worship artists, and a speaker and/or entertainer from America. Temperatures in the Dominican are very warm, so please come prepared. Remember your sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat and a water container to stay hydrated. Purified water will be provided so that you can fill up your water bottle (Many times!) every day. Other recommended items for packing are listed in this booklet. If you have any questions please call RISE at 712-324-9763 or email Lee at [email protected].

As you continue to prepare, remember to pray for your team-mates and those we will serve and meet. The Dominican Re-public ROTR will be a great trip and we’re excited to see what God has in store for us!

Partnering with CMTCentro para Mision Transformadora | Center for Transforming Missions

Mission/Vision of CMT

The Center for Transforming Missions works with a limited number of groups from the states every year for purposes of developing vision. We are headquartered in Santo Domingo, the first city established in America after the discovery in 1492. It has a metropolitan population of approximately 3.5 million.

Part of our vision in working with groups from the states is to share the beauty of God all around us. Secondly, exposing groups from the states to visionary leaders and cutting edge ministries run by Dominicans working in the hardest places brings us great joy. From the gut wrenching poverty of La Puya where 60,000 people live in a ravine, to the 4,000 homeless youth living on the streets of Santo Domingo, to Christian schools that provide access to education to over 5,000 children and youth in some of the most impoverished communities around Santo Domingo and other parts of the country. In the DR, yearly more than 400,000 children and young people do not get to attend school due to lack of room in overcrowded public schools or because their parents cannot afford to send them to private ones; to churches that are reaching out to young prostitutes on the streets of Santo Domingo. It is estimated that there are more than 30,000 registered prostitutes who make their living selling their bodies in the Dominican Republic alone, without counting thousands more who travel overseas to practice prostitution.

In this spirit of partnership and mutual “conversion,” we invite groups to come to the Dominican Republic on vision trips. Mother Theresa, when asked about what was happening in India would often simply answer with the statement, “Come and see. Why don’t you just come and see?” As part of a group coming to Santo Domingo we will go on a short-term vision casting experience, to COME AND SEE WHAT GOD IS DOING HERE. You and the believers of Santo Domingo BELONG to one another and have great NEED of one another and it is the image of that Kingdom vision that we look forward to exploring with you.

The Center for Transforming Missions is a collaborative effort in holistic mission that works in strategic partnership with other Christian organizations to serve/empower communities of grassroots leaders that live and serve in high-risk population. Today we have the privilege of reaching out to and making disciples of all young people and their families who do not know the redemptive power of relationship with Jesus Christ. We place a special focus on those whom are often considered in Latin America the least and lost such as gang members, street youth, drug addicts, those caught in the trap of poverty, etc.

Purpose of Short-Term Missons

One of the most urgent needs in Latin America is unmistakably the empowerment, equipping, and mobilization of grassroots leaders who serve those who have been wrongly labeled the least, last and the lost in vulnerable communities. The Center for Transforming Missions has set out to explore what it means to effectively reach out to and consider the voices and stories of those who are far outside the traditional scope of the local church. The desired impact will come by way of training which calls the church to bear witness to God’s saving grace among the most marginalized, un-churched, and hostile people.

Being prepared for an international trip is very important for everyone. Our bodies are not use to some of the things that the local people’s bodies are accustom to; for example food and lifestyle. Everyone should have seen a doctor already before the trip. Here are a couple of different things that were suggested by doctors in the past: Hepatitis A and B, Malaria, Typhoid.

For more information please visit http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/dominican-republic.htm to learn more about what you should be taking before going to the Dominican Republic.

If your insurance does not cover overseas there is a company on the internet that was recommended to by RISE’s insurance company. If you don’t have insurance or your insurance company will not cover you going to the Dominican please look this up at http://www.1stagency.com/internationalcoverage.htm. The plan is called Atlas Travel Series. You can find out what the insurance covers and get a free quote. If there are any questions please contact their office at 1-269-381-6630.
