Technically it is still winter, but it sure seems like spring came a month ago!  With the unseasonably warm weather, the trees have started to bud out and the weeds have decided to spring up.  LOTS OF WEEDS.  Now is the time to start combating these pests before they have a chance to take over your yard.  A good weed and feed will do wonders for your yard; follow the directions on the package to get the optimum usage out of these convenient products.  Another good rule of thumb is to mow low the first two mows of the season; this will cut down on the weeds germinating period and reduce the number of seedlings.

If you own or rent a home in Round Rock Ranch, you have chosen to live a community that takes pride in the appearance of our subdivision.  We have Deed Restrictions that all must follow to help keep up our property values and show respect for our fellow neighbors.  You may not have a yard full of weeds, park a trailer, boat or RV in your driveway or on the side of your property and you may not store your garbage cans in view from the front of your property, this means the sides of the property as well.

To avoid a letter of violation and a possible fine please be sure to follow all the rules and regulations of Round Rock Ranch to help make this a better place to live.

The EnclaveAlmost every newsletter mentions this: The Enclave Board

encourages you to sign up for email updates by sending an email to: [email protected] or [email protected] ALWAYS copy the Board on any complaint or issue you may be addressing with the management company!  Issues inside the Gates go to PAMco – Issues outside of the Gates go to Centex.  In the past, the Board has had no way of knowing when issues were being brought to the management company’s attention nor how active they were in response or remedying the situation.   We want to know what is going on in the neighborhood, so please copy the Enclave Board on emails to both management companies!   And it would be nice to hear some compliments as well as complaints.

Enclave Clean Up Day is back!Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 23rd at

9am for the next Clean Up Day.   If you are not already on the email notification list, please send an email to [email protected] if you would like to participate. Treats and Beverage will be provided. In addition to the clean up, there are two sub-events that we would like to have that day:

• We are in need of Residents living on the Rosenborough Side who would like to be taught how to manually open the Gates in case of a power outage. While the Briarton side has recently been upgraded, the Rosenborough Gates do not have a battery backup option.  It will take 15 minutes to learn and is invaluable knowledge in the event of an Emergency. People have tried to ram the gates in the past and this is the expensive alternative.  Please help us save money by taking some responsibility for living here

• First Annual “Pup Swap” – any Round Rock Ranch residents interested in sharing or trading clippings from their Native or Adapted plants to help neighbors update their landscaping should contact Michael via the Board.  He currently has several varieties of Agaves, some young Red Yuccas, and a couple other plants in the process of rooting to swap.

As mentioned in the last newsletter, Williamson County’s Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service website has a lot of great information on lawns.  There are several articles on the Turfgrass Webpage (http://goo.gl/tshrT) including a great maintenance schedule (link to PDF: http://goo.gl/02zdG).

Per their recommended maintenance schedule:March 1st: Lower the lawn mower blade and cut St

Augustine’s down to 1-2 inches. March 15th: Apply Spring Fertilizer April 1st: Apply Fire Ant control

Shadow Pointe HOABy Brian Wild

Some of you may know some of you may not that Shadow Pointe is our neighbor community. They are located off Double Creek between us and Gattis school rd. There have been some issues with vandalism at their parks and ours, if you see vandalism going on please call the Round Rock police department at (512) 218-5500. Also please be courteous of the posted speed limits in our neighborhood and theirs. We all want to have a great neighborhood to live in and keeping our children safe and also keep our property values up at the same time.

Safety tips

Do not be a victim of an automobile burglary many burglaries occur when valuables are left visibly inside unlocked cars. Burglars are opportunists. Virtually anything left in plain view where anyone walking by the car can see is subject to be stolen.

An unlocked car door even in your driveway is the perfect opportunity that thieves are looking for. Many car burglaries occur at night while the vehicle is parked outside of the residence. Do not provide this opportunity or make it easy thieves! Notify the Police immediately if you discover that your vehicle has been burglarized. Don’t be a victim. Always remember to--Lock you doors, Take your keys and Hide your belongings.

List of What Spring Yard Cleanup Includes

By Robert Korpella, eHow Contributor

Garden Beds• Plenty of dead grass, fallen leaves and sticks are usually

left behind by winter storms and cold. Rake them out from around flower and vegetable beds. Pile these to be composted or if there are lawn debris pickup services in your area, bag them for removal. Pull up any old annuals that may be left over from fall and toss them into the compost pile as well. Clip away or remove any dead foliage from flower and vegetable beds. Some landscape experts, like Cook, recommend removing last year’s layer of mulch and adding a new layer to allow plants to breathe more easily Pruning and Trimming

• Branches that did not survive the winter will need to be removed to promote healthy growth. Use a pair of hand pruning shears to help avoid removing green material, and trim enough to reduce the possibility of shrubs growing a thick outer layer that blocks sunlight. For branches larger than 1/2 inch, a saw is quicker and safer to use. Pruning back to live stems will help trees, climbing vines and bushes during the growing season. It’s also a good time to prune back perennials and ornamental grasses. Consider the timing of when plants bloom to select the best time to prune them. Summer bloomers can be trimmed back any time before the buds start to swell, but spring bloomers, like forsythias, need to be pruned after they bloom. Lawn Cleanup

• Rake out diseased or damaged patches of lawn to get them ready for reseeding later. Seeding can occur about the same time that forsythias bloom. It’s not a bad idea to lightly rake the whole lawn to clean up sticks and other debris. Every couple of years, lawn cleanup should include a good dethatching to remove old grass clippings and encourage the growth of new grass. A thorough raking or applying a power dethatcher to the lawn will do a nice job.

Meet Your New 2013 Board Members

Two new Board Members were elected to the Round Rock Ranch

Home Owners Association at our annual meeting January 22, 2013. Chuck Goss and his wife Alyssa have called Round Rock Ranch

home for 7 years.  They have three young children ages 5, 3 and 5 months!  Chuck is a software developer for Spiceworks, Inc. and enjoys cycling, home-brewing beer and hanging out at the neighborhood parks and pools with the kids.

Brian Wild has lived here for 7 years as well and has been the website manager for www.roundrockranch.com the last two years and has recently volunteered to edit the newsletter for Round Rock Ranch as well.  He and his wife have 3 children and 4 grandchildren!  He works at Dell Inc. and in his spare time has volunteered for the board of directors here in our neighborhood.

It takes volunteers to run this neighborhood and we have openings on the committees, so if you are interested in helping please contact us at [email protected].  We need help with the pool and landscape committee at this time.  Thank you new members for supporting Round Rock Ranch and helping make this a better place to live!
