ROYAL PRIESTS ARE SHAPED BY SCRIPTURE Pastor Derwin Gray Week 3 SERMON RECAP: The late pastor and author, Eugene Peterson, once said, “Readers become what they read. If Holy Scrip- ture is to be something other than mere gossip about God, it must be internalized.” This was the heart of Sunday’s sermon as Pastor Derwin helped us navigate the importance of the biblical narrative, and how it is not merely for information but our transformation. It is through engaging with King Jesus through His Word that we become enthralled by who He is and shaped by the Spirit to the glory of God the Father. Thankfully, reading scripture — like many spiritual rhythms — is to be enjoyed in community. We have the opportunity to grow along other brothers and sisters in Christ and be all that God has called us to be together. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS: UPWARD •Take a moment and reflect on how Scripture was introduced to you. How did this shape your view of God and who He is? •Read John 5:39-40 and Matthew 4:4. What do these verses communicate about Jesus’ view of Scrip- ture? How do we share in that same vantage point? INWARD •Read Psalm 119:103-104. Reflect on the psalmist’s description of Scripture. If you had to honestly give a description of your relationship to Scripture at this moment, how would you describe it? •What has communing with God looked like for you in the past? Do you have any hesitations when it comes to engaging with God through His Word? •How does the Holy Spirit transform us through scripture? OUTWARD •Read 2 Timothy 3:16. How can we embody this biblical reality to those in our spheres of influence this week? •How can you participate in the spiritual rhythm of reading Scripture with others this week?
