Category 6A cabling infrastructure and megapixel network video sur- veillance provides sophisticated network and security solution CASE STUDY The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Background The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (formerly the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD), founded in 1847 and based in Glasgow is the UK’s only provider of conservatoire level education in music, drama and dance and one of very few globally. The RSAMD also offers PhD and MPhil degree courses which are validated and awarded by the University of St Andrews. The Royal Conservatoire seek to nurture a spirit of crea- tivity, innovation, enterprise and excellence in its stu- dents, therefore, all of its courses consider the needs and potential of each individual student. The academy, which is at the forefront of research development into creative practice, ensures teaching and assessment take place in a challenging, vibrant, artistic and academic environment. Business Challenge Construction work commenced in January 2010 to pro- vide the academy with a second campus in Glasgow’s City Centre. The Spiers Locks Studio development, pro- vides accommodation for the expansion of Technical & Production Arts, Musical Theatre and Modern Ballet, in- cluding Technical & Production Arts design, set & ward- robe construction and four large high-specification dance and musical theatre rehearsal studios. The Royal Conservatoire were looking for an industry- leading partner to design and implement a cutting edge network within its new state of the art campus. As part of the huge renovation project, the Royal Conservatoire required seamless connectivity throughout the new stu- dios alongside the deployment of a sophisticated security system. Solution Using their industry expertise, Boston Networks designed, planed and installed an augmented category 6A network cabling infrastructure throughout the new campus. Boston Networks also designed a bespoke security solu- tion which, through the use of intelligence on the net- work, runs both internal and external network video sur- veillance. As part of this new strategy, the Royal Conserva- toire recognised that the security systems capabilities were vital to the success of the project and more importantly the safety of its students and visitors alike.
