Ruostumaton teräs
• Kromi reagoi hapen kanssa
→ Teräksen pinnalle muodostuu ohut, muutaman nanometrin paksuinen
passiivikalvo, joka suojaa terästä korroosiolta
• Ruostumattomat teräkset luokitellaan niiden kiderakenteen perusteella
• Austeniittiset (γ-rauta)
• Ferriittiset (α-rauta)
• Duplex (austeniittis-ferriittiset)
• Martensiittiset
Ruostumaton teräs = teräs, jossa vähintään ~11 % kromia

Materiaalin valintaOn olemassa monia erilaisia ruostumattomia teräslajeja.
• Mekaaninen lujuus autonkorissa
o Kemian-, petrokemian- ja energiateollisuus
• Pinnan toimitustilalle ei useinkaan suuria vaatimuksia
• Usein kovat vaatimukset korroosionkestolle
• Paljon paineastioita ja suuria säiliöitä – Lujat teräslajit voidaan hyödyntää painonsäästössä
Materiaalin valintaperusteet vaihtelevat
teollisuusalojen välillä

• Käytetään laajasti pakoputkistoissa ja auton osissa, kuten letkusiteissä, turvavyön
komponenteissa, koristeosissa, kannentiivisteissä jne.
• Tulossa alusta ja jousitus komponetteihin, polttoainetankkeihin ja katalysaattori
sovelluksiin
• Vaihtoehto kantaviin rakenteisiin
• Tarjoaa:
o weight savings, enhanced ”crashworthiness”, corrosion resistant, it can be
recycled 100%

• Lujuus, muovattavuus ja energiansitomiskyky
• Painon säästö
• Parempi kolariturvallisuus (crashworthiness)
• Note: Strain rate sensitivity. Energy absorption depends on deformation speed
• Alhaisemmat päästöt
• Alhaisemmat elinkaarikustannukset (LCC)
• Korroosionkestävyys
• Maalausta ei välttämättä tarvita
• Huoltovapaa
• Lower LCC

• An innovative, stainless steel fuel tank is fitted. It is made from HyTens® steel, up to five times
stronger than standard carbon steel, which allows the walls to be as thin as 0.5 mm, making
the tank 3 kilos lighter than a conventional plastic tank of the same volume. Developed by
Saab and steel manufacturer Outokumpu, the tank is 100% recyclable and has a production
cost about 50% less than a plastic one.

High temperature exposure of part to over 900°C. Strong vibrations, thermal expansion,
high-temperature corrosion, high-temperature strength needed
Pipes are often thermally insulated. High temperatures, strong vibrations,
high-temperature corrosion, high-temperature strength needed.
Temperatures as for front pipe. Strong vibrations, temperature shocks.
High temperatures due to temperature rise behind the catalytic
converter. Little corrosion exposure.
High corrosion exposure of inside and outside parts, less
temperature exposure. Sometimes optical requirements.
High corrosion exposure during short-haul operation, less
temperature exposure.
Critical part, as corrosion is likely during short-haul operation; on
the other hand high temperatures during long journeys.
High corrosion exposure. High optical requirements.
