Happy End of the Financial Year! I really can’t believe half a year is gone already! It was great seeing you all at the ATALA Expo, what a great success that was! It makes me so happy that we are all working together towards the same goal, raising awareness of the amazing Latin America. Thank you to the ATALA Board who worked so hard organising the events. I am sure next year will be even better!

DELFIN AMAZON CRUISES

MOUNTAIN LODGES OF PERU

Huacahuasi Lodge

As part of MLP’s sustainability and social responsibility initiative, we engaged in a joint venture with the local community of Huacahuasi, located in the Lares Region (Cusco) at 3,835 metres above sea level. For this equity partnership, the local community contribut-ed with natural and cultural resources and MLP contributed with the construction and operation of the Lodge which started working at the end of 2014. As a result of this part-nership, the partners shared the profits generated by the business (Operation of the lodge). However, the profit is not the only benefit for the local community, the lodge gen-erates local employment. Today, 90% of the lodge staff is from the Huacahuasi Commu-nity.

Furthermore, because of the social and development commitment that involved in this model, the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC) and the Inter- American Devel-opment Bank (IDB) became the main financial and strategic partners of MLP in order to achieve the purpose and vision of this project. It is estimated that for the community, this profit represents an increase of 30% (approx.) of their total GDP. By looking at the in-creasing occupancy in the coming years, it is expected that the profit will contribute and increase the local GDP by 100% .

In views of the huge success of the implementation of this partnership, MLP has already formed a similar association with the local community of Patacancha (in the district of Ollantaytambo) and is going to replicate the same business model. A new lodge is going to be built and its opening is expected for 2017.
