MADD NIGHT Success
Thank you to the hundreds of audience members who came
along to be part of the 2018 MADD night last week. The
students certainly had many smiles on their faces as they
performed for the community. Thank you to all staff who
prepared performances, or who came along to support the
school. We are lucky to have a strong Creative Arts program
throughout the school. Some photos of the night are on our
school Facebook page.
Debaters come third in the state!
Congratulations to Zoe, Georgia, Indy, Shreyash and Darcy,
our 2018 student debating team who travelled to Sydney last
week to compete in the final rounds of the Premier’s Debating
Challenge. The team were narrowly defeated in the semi finals
and placed third overall - not bad out of 2200+ schools in
NSW!
Thank you to all staff who have supported the team and given
coaching tips to the students. A special thank you to Mrs
Clarkson who has been the team’s advisor and mentor.
Wild Weather
We have certainly seen some unstable weather conditions of
late! The high winds last week caused us to close our play
areas and on some days, keep children inside classrooms at
lunch and recess. Weather conditions are generally assessed
each day. Children will be kept indoors if there are any
dangerous conditions or threats to student health.
Snakes
Australia is a land with beautiful flora and fauna! With this
beauty comes the reality that we live in an area with potential
hazards. We have had three unconfirmed sightings of snakes
over the last two weeks near the school fences. This is not
unexpected given the building works and habitat changes.
Every effort is made to keep the students safe and minimise
potential areas for snake activity. Student safety is always
paramount and we activate a safety plan when the need arises.
Students have been briefed in what to do if they spot a snake,
but parents and carers should remind their children to be on the
lookout for any unwanted attention - particularly with the
summer holidays fast approaching. Snakes in Australia are
protected by law and must not be killed.
A good guide to Australian Snakes can be found at:

Thinkfest
Good luck to the creative thinkers in 5/6L who are off to the
2018 Thinkfest Challenge in Newcastle this week. The class
has been given various challenges in different curriculum areas
and will present their work at a whole-day “Thinkfest” this
Wednesday 28th November. Good luck to all and thank you to
Ms Ledwos for all her support for the children.
Building Updates
Our carpark and Gate 3 Entrance is now closed to all staff,
students and parents. Only essential and emergency vehicles
will be able to access the carpark at certain times, under direct
supervision of school staff. Thank you for your understanding
and patience as our school grows!
All access to the school is now through gates 1, 2 and 4.
Please keep to all pathways and observe all restricted access
areas. The old hall and canteen will be demolished over the
next few weekends to make way for the construction of the new
buildings. Again, please observe any restricted areas.
Some ideas for the drop off and collection of students:
Mornings:
Utilise the “kiss and drop” zone
Drop students near the crossing
Older students may be able to walk or ride to school
Afternoons:
Establish a spot that is a little less busy so your child can walk
there within a short amount of time.
Arrive at school after the 10 minute rush - there are lots of
parks by 3:15pm! Students are allowed to wait inside the gate
in front of the office for parents who arrive a little late.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
We have had to speak to a number
of children recently about being kind
to each other in the playground and
classroom. Our school PBL systems
try to provide students with
strategies to manage conflict calmly
and sensibly. Students who are not
following our school expectations are referred to the school
executive for further support and counselling. Copies of our
school behaviour and anti-bullying policies are available on our
website or on request through the school office.
The NSW Department of Education and Training also has an
excellent resource for schools, teachers, students and parents
at: https://antibullying.nsw.gov.au/
2018 PBL Principal’s Award
Some children in K-6 will be awarded the 2018 Principals’
Award in their 2018 Presentation Day pack. Students who
have consistently displayed high levels of behaviour and effort
throughout the year will receive the award. The class teacher
MUST support the award.
TIMES TABLE CHALLENGE
The fastest students in each Stage
group will go head-to-head in the
2018 Times Table challenge
tomorrow. Teachers have selected

recall of number facts. The fastest

27th November. Good luck to all students selected to take part!

Parents and carers are most welcome to attend the sessions.
CLASSES FOR 2019
Planning and class allocations for 2019 are well underway! As
you can imagine, trying to place over 950 students into 38
classes can be challenging to get everything right!
Teachers have not yet been allocated to classes and we would
like to ask parents to avoid making unreasonable requests.
Every effort is made to place students with some of their friends
and to make classes harmonious and productive for all.
If you are aware that your child/ren will not be returning in 2019,
we would appreciate you letting the office know so we can
ensure our enrolment numbers are accurate.
Kindergarten Orientation
Our Kindergarten Orientation for 2018 will conclude this
Thursday 29th November.
Thank you to the parents who have attended the two sessions.
We have over 130 students registered for Kindergarten next
year, and we are very excited to welcome our new boys and
girls into ‘big school’. If you are still yet to register your child,
please see the office as soon as possible so your child can be
placed into a class.
PRESENTATION DAYS
Our school Presentation Days aim to encourage and recognise
all students for their learning throughout the year. With our hall
now unavailable, we are planning some “alfresco” assemblies
to be held under the Infants COLA. Please note the Stage 3
assembly will be held at Club Maitland City.

Sharing our information with the rest of the class is one of our favourite things to do. We all enjoy making dinosaur craft.
KA have also been learning about the weather with Mrs Lee. They learnt about different types of clouds and observed how
