Reconciliation Week 27 May - 3 June

Each year National Reconciliation

Week (NRW) celebrates and builds

on the respectful relationships

shared by Aboriginal and Torres

Strait Islander people and other

Australians. The theme for NRW

2018 is “Don’t Keep History A

Mystery”. This year during National

Reconciliation Week, Reconciliation

Australia invites all Australians to

learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures

and histories, to share that knowledge and help us grow as a

nation.

Students will be discussing the importance of Aboriginal

Reconciliation Week in classes this week and learning more

about our rich Aboriginal history.

AERONAUTICAL VELOCITY CHALLENGE

Our 5/6L Opportunity Class had a fantastic day designing and

launching their rockets at Hunter River High School last week.

Congratulations to the Super Stars who won the primary

division with an impressive distance of 65.4m.

Pictured below: Winning team - Super Stars

From Zoe, 5/6L:

Have you ever built a rocket?

Well not a real one, a bottle rocket, because that's what

5/6L students did at the Aeronautical Velocity Challenge

at Hunter River High School on Monday.

We had many test flights before the day, but on the day

we had to launch our rocket after just 1.5 hrs of building

time. We were in a large workshop with lots of High

School students from all over the region. We were the

only primary school attending and I think we were

actually more organised than the year 7's and 8's.

Some of the rockets were amazing and they went so

far! Others weren't as good but we all had fun anyway.

Over the last few weeks we have started to incorporate group activities which include craft, scissor skills, playdough and

writing activities.

Please ensure you’re logged in to Seesaw to keep up to date with photos and

resources to support your child’s learning journey to big school. If you do not have

a note with the instructions on how to register, please see one of the Little

Enrolments for the group which will start on Thursday 7th June (Week 6, Term 2)

have now closed.

We are now taking enrolments for the group that will start the program on

Thursday 26th July (Week 1 Term 3).

Please ensure you have returned all necessary paperwork (student profile and

enrolment forms). We also encourage that you advise us of any medical

information that could be important to your child’s participation in the program.

Little Dragons who are already registered for the program should now be on

Flexischools (www.flexischools.com.au). This means parents can prepay for the

Father’s Day gift stall, and also participate in any P&C fundraisers during the year.

Keep in mind for next year, that lunch orders can only be placed via Flexischools.

Funded and supported by the NSW Government and offered free to schools, Y-PEP aims to strengthen the existing PDHPE

and Protective Strategies.

There have been a few embarrassing moments as students find out about growing up and all that this entails.

Next week four students are attending an environmental forum at Walka Water Works and hope to bring back some

sustainable ideas into the school community. Watch this space for more developments.

some photos of the day.

against Telarah. We wish them all the best of luck. No matter the result I’m sure you will do us proud.

Rugby League

The Under 10's Rugby League team travelled to New Lambton on Thursday 3rd May to compete in the Knights Knockout. They

represented our school with great sportsmanship and encouragement of others. The games were very close with the boys

having three draws and just one loss.

Thank you to all the parents and family members who came to support our children. A special thanks to Brett and Scott who

assisted on the day and shared their knowledge of the game with the team.

The Under 12s team will be competing tomorrow in their division of the Knights Knockout. Good luck to you all.

Softball

The Boys team travelled to Stevenson Park Mayfield West last Wednesday to compete in the PSSA Knockout Gala Day.

Congratulations to all the boys who played hard in all of our games and represented our school with pride. Our results improved

as the day went on with a loss in Game 1, a close two-run loss in Game 2 and a draw in Game 3. Well done to all the boys and

thank you to the parents that came along to support the boys.
