Welcome to all members and guests who are attending today. Hopefully you had a healthy and enjoyable summer.

Thanks to the Morrisburg/Winchester/Chesterville group for organizing today’s activities at the Lakeshore United Church Hall in Morrisburg. Thanks also to the United Church Women for catering this event.

Thanks also for bringing donations of school supplies to be divided between Naomi F.R.C. and House of Lazarus.

We hope you enjoy participating in the “Quarter Frenzy” again this year. Thanks for all the auction items and a

special thank you to Annette Angus for taking on the role of Auctioneer this year.

Please remember that if you commit to coming to a luncheon, you are responsible to pay if you don’t attend. In June we were so pleased to have our Area 8 Director, Teresa Dorey here to present our

members with the newly designed Cora Bailey pin. (From left to right- Diana McKendry, Shirley Hodgins, Maureen Robertson, Betty

Two positions on the Executive committee are needed for the next term, 2017-19. If you are interested in becoming the President or Vice-President please talk to a member of the Executive. We need individuals to volunteer for these positions if we are to continue to be a vibrant organization that represents out members. Pictured to the right- Past Executive- 2015-2017- BettyLou Casselman, Colleen Howard, MaryEllen Garlough, Diana McKendry, Sandie Decker, Annalee Ladouceur. (Missing from this photo- Brenda Millard) In the front- Guests- Beryl Jacka and Teresa Dorey (Napanee branch)

It was passed at the Executive meeting that the following donations be recommended to the membership: $100. to each of our four area high schools. Thanks to Brenda Millard for organizing and establishing this year’s presenters. $75. to each of the following: D.C. Food Sharing, House of Lazarus, Food for All, Naomi F.R.C., Connect Youth, Rideau Hill Camp, and Girls Inc. We have included a new local organization called Femme International. We are hoping to have Sabrina Rubili, the founder, as a guest speaker in November. $50. to each of the following: Spencerville Agricultural Society, South Mountain Agricultural Society, the Madagascar School Project and Camp Erin. That brings the total for the above donations to $1200. If you have other causes that are dear to your heart, please bring them forward for discussion today.

A bag making bee will be held at the home of Mary Ellen Garlough on October 18th, 2017 starting at 9:30am. We are hoping a number of you will decide to join us. Remember you do not need to be an expert on the sewing machine. We need your help with many jobs such as threading, cutting, ironing etc. A potluck lunch is planned for that day also. Please let Diana or Mary Ellen know if you plan to attend. Pictured to the left, are the two winners of the two 150th Canada bags (made by MaryEllen Garlough and Diana McKendry), Maureen Robertson and Marion DeGray.

Copies of the financial statements and minutes of the June 2017 meeting are available for ladies without email addresses. Those of us who receive these via email, please peruse them so that you are prepared to accept the documents during the meeting. Executive minutes of the August 29th meeting are available upon request.

“Thank you”, from the bottom of my heart for the gift certificate from Green Things. This little guy

was eager to come home with me from their store in Prescott and join my garden décor. He’s an

adorable fellow who reminds me of my inquisitive little grandson. Walker loves to see him every time

he visits Nanny’s gardens. Your thoughtfulness was greatly appreciated. Thanks again, Diana.

The UCE Brochure has had a facelift this summer. If you received it by email, please run it off and feel free to give it to a newly retired teacher or perhaps a colleague you’ve not seen for a while. Some copies are available for those ladies without email addresses. It’s a delightful overview of our branch’s annual meetings and contains

information about our activities and supporters. At our August Executive meeting, Lynda shared some exciting news with us. Her second children’s book has been published for Fun With Books. This one called “The Empty Bird House” and “Animals in my Garden” will be available at this luncheon and I’m sure Lynda could be persuaded to sign them also! Congratulations Lynda and happy writing! For those who wish to receive RWTO "Connections" newsletter by email please contact a member of our Executive. This saves postage three times a year.

Memories of June 2017
