Community Grants ProgramApplications for the City of Ryde’s Community Grants Program are now open.

This program provides one-off, non-recurrent funding up to $3,500 to non-government organisations and community groups for projects in the local area that are:

sustainablecommunity-orientedinclusive of the needs of diverse groups and people within our community.

Three categories of grants are offered: Community, Cultural and Sports.

Guidelines and application forms are available at www.ryde.nsw.gov.au/communitygrants, at any of our five libraries or at the Customer Service Centre at the Ryde Civic Centre.

Closing date for applications is Friday 30 November.

For further information call 9952 8222.

We’re here to help!If you lost your much-loved family pet, who would help you find it?

If someone parked a truck across your driveway, who would you turn to for assistance?

If you saw someone dumping rubbish on the footpath, who would you alert?

The answer is simple: the City of Ryde rangers!

Rangers sometimes get bad press, but what would we do without them and the essential service they provide?

Our rangers deal with a wide range of issues that keep our City ticking over smoothly. Probably best-known for parking regulation enforcement, our team of 17 rangers also deals with a myriad of public safety and community-focused issues.

These include:

rescuing and returning lost petskeeping our footpaths clear – especially important for our citizens who are visually impaired or who use wheelchairs or walkerslooking out for the safety of our kids by ensuring parking compliance around schools and sportsgrounds

working with the local business community to ensure a good turnover of parking spaces, both in large shopping complexes such as the Macquarie Centre and smaller local shopping areas.

In addition, they help to control the ongoing issue of illegal dumping. This includes everything from household waste and unwanted furniture to building supplies.

You can always recognise our rangers as they patrol our City. When on duty, they wear a uniform and a high-visibility, fluoro-yellow reflective vest.

So next time you see one of our rangers, don’t jump to conclusions. They’re more likely to have a friendly chat to you to ensure that you abide by the law than to issue you with a fine.

And they are an important part of the way we work towards making our City a City of Liveable Neighbourhoods, where all residents can enjoy clean, safe, friendly and vibrant neighbourhoods.

For more information, call 9952 8222.

The Forest and the TreesThe City of Ryde has always been known as a green City and residents are understandably passionate about our unique tree canopy.

Council’s commitment to the long-term care and conservation of our local urban forest has now been recognised with an award from the Australian Institute of Landscape Designers and Managers.

The Award for Landscape Management recognises the significant change in our policy direction in managing the local urban forest and our commitment to the community to provide clear leadership in the management of trees within our City.

To view the Urban Forest Policy go to www.ryde.nsw.gov.au/trees.

Have Your SayLet’s go for a walk in Macquarie Park! The City of Ryde is seeking feedback from the community to help us develop a Pedestrian Access and Mobility Plan (PAMP) for the Macquarie Park business precinct.

Your comments will help us make Macquarie Park more pedestrian-friendly.

Our aim is to:

develop a continuous and comprehensive network of footpaths and other pedestrian infrastructure such as crossings, kerbs etcmake the area safer and easier to walk aroundput pedestrians at the forefront of our planning for the futuredevelop an action plan and schedule for our construction works.

If you are a resident, worker, student or visitor in Macquarie Park, we would like to hear what you have to say. Go to www.ryde.nsw.gov.au/haveyoursay and fill in our online survey, or call 9952 8222 and we will send you a copy to post back to us.

Provide your feedback and you will go into the draw to win one of 10 movie double passes!

The deadline for completing the survey and sending us your comments is Friday 2 November.
