EVENT INFORMATION

MEETING OBJECTIVES• Describe the anatomic, physiologic and procedural

factors that distinguish dental office-based anesthesia from other common office-based anesthetics.

• Discuss what is known about the risks of sedation and non-operating room anesthesia care.

• Identify the major regulatory concerns in ambulatory surgery.

• Determine the anesthetic considerations/management for complex procedures in the non-operating room locations.

TARGET AUDIENCEThis meeting is designed to educate and share information that will enable anesthesiologists, dentist and anesthesia providers and practitioners who specialize in ambulatory or office-based anesthesia to provide the highest level of ambulatory anesthesia services or out of OR care and improve patient outcomes.

ABOUT THIS MEETINGTopics for this meeting were selected by a joint committee of the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia (SAMBA) and the American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists (ASDA), as well as by board members, reviews of published literature and by soliciting suggestions from members of SAMBA and ASDA who are active in the clinical practice of ambulatory anesthesia.

We will review state-of-the-art thinking about monitoring for sedation and NORA and medication choices for sedation.

Lecture 5: Complex Cases in NORAMore and more surgical procedures are scheduled in NORA locations due to advances in “minimally” interventional procedures and often times in patients who are deemed to be non–surgical candidates. This session will cover anesthetic considerations and management of a variety of these challenging cases.

Lecture 6: Open-airway Pediatric Anesthesia – Dentistry’s Past Converges with ModernOpen-airway, spontaneous ventilation anesthesia techniques have a long and rich history in dentistry. 2016 DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARDSThe Committee on Awards has issued a call for nominations for the SAMBA 2016 Distinguished Service Award for presentation at the SAMBA 31st Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL on May 5-7, 2016. The Distinguished Service Award is presented to an individual for outstanding achievement in ambulatory anesthesia and is the highest honor which the Society can bestow.
