• Engage™ with Unifit® features revolutionary Unifit® Technology. Installation requires only a fewsimple hand tools, and is fast, easy, quiet and clean. The unique end joints click together just like a door latch. Just angle, press and tap to lock.

• Engage™ with Unifit® is intended for interior use only and is suitable for above-grade, on-gradeand below-grade applications. However, Engage™ with Unifit® should not be installed in locationswhere the substrate beneath the building structure is exposed to the elements.

• Engage™ with Unifit® is a floating floor and should be allowed to expand and contract freely. It must not be glued, nailed, or fastened to the substrate in any way. Install permanent cabinets, vanities, island counters and similar items first, then cut in Engage™ with Unifit® around them, leaving a ¼-inch space for expansion and contraction. Fill expansion spaces around potentiallywet areas such as refrigerators, tubs, toilet flanges and appliances with premium waterproof100% silicone caulk. Always remove standing water, pet urine and other liquids promptly.

• Rooms larger than 40' x 40' require the use of coordinating T-molding transitions. Doorways and archways less than 4 feet wide require the use of T-molding transitions.

• Acclimate and install Engage™ with Unifit® in climate-controlled structures consistently maintainedat temperatures no lower than 65°F and no higher than 85°F before, during and after installation.Ambient relative humidity should be maintained between 35% and 85%.

• Direct sunlight may cause Engage™ with Unifit® to fade or the joints to separate. Protect Engage™with Unifit® from direct sunlight using window treatments or UV tinting on windows. Engage™ withUnifit® is not recommended for use in sunrooms.

• Engage™ with Unifit™ is a waterproof floating floor, but it should not be used to seal an existing floor from moisture. Engage™ with Unifit™ cannot inhibit the growth of mold or prevent structural problems associated with, or caused by flooding, excessivemoisture, alkalis in the subfloor, or conditions arising from hydrostatic pressure.Regardless of location, always remove standing water, urine and other liquids promptly.Moisture issues should be addressed and corrected at the job site prior to installation.

EVALUATE THE JOB SITEExteriorDamage caused by water and high humidity should be addressedprior to installing Engage™ with Unifit®.

• Examine the driveway and landscaping surrounding the building.Be sure that they slope and direct water away from the foundation.

• Inspect gutters, down spouts and drains for blockage. Removeclogs caused by leaves, dirt and debris, allowing runoff to flowfreely away from the foundation.

• Check crawl spaces for cross-ventilation air vents equaling at least1.5% per 100 square feet of floor space. Crawl spaces shouldmeasure a minimum of 18 inches high and should be insulatedaccording to the latest building code requirements. The groundshould be covered with a minimum 6-mil vapor barrier.

InteriorMoisture issues should be identified and corrected at the job siteprior to installation.

• Examine the installation site for leaky plumbing, including leaksfrom water heaters, dishwashers, washing machines, or any otherwater-bearing fixtures or pipes.

• Inspect substrates for level. They must be sturdy, sound, and flatwithin 3⁄16 of an inch within a 10-foot radius. The substrate shouldnot slope more than 1 inch per 6 feet in any direction.

• Metroflor® Corp. recommends testing concrete substrates forrelative humidity, moisture and pH before installing Engage™with Unifit™. Test results should not exceed 85% relativehumidity (RH). The Calcium Chloride Test for moisture shouldbe no more than 8lbs per one-thousand square feet in 24 hoursMVER, (Moisture Vapor Emission Rating) and pH tests foralkalinity levels should register between 7 and 9.

• Metroflor® Corp. recommends checking wood substrates formoisture. Obvious signs of moisture issues include warping, peaking, degradation of the integrity of the substrate, rustedfasteners, and rusted floor registers. Even if obvious signs arenot present, the material should be tested using an invasivemoisture meter and moisture levels should not exceed 14%.

ATTENTION: Mold and mildew grow only in the presence ofmoisture. Moisture issues should be addressed and corrected at thejob site prior to installation. Please visit www.epa.gov/mold forinformation about safely preventing and removing mold, mildewand other biological pollutants.

IDENTIFY YOUR SUBSTRATEApproved SubstratesEngage™ with Unifit® is suitable for use over a wide variety of substrates.

ConcreteEngage™ with Unifit™ is waterproof, but moisture issues should becorrected at the jobsite before installation begins to prevent seriousdamage to the subfloor and surrounding structure, and todiscourage the growth of mold and mildew. Concrete substratesshould be prepared in accordance to the most current version ofASTM F710 (Standard Practice for Preparing Concrete Floors toReceive Resilient Flooring). Concrete substrates must be sturdy, sound, and flat within 3⁄16 of an inch within a 10-foot radius. Thesubstrate should not slope more than 1 inch per 6 feet in anydirection. Moisture and alkalinity tests should be performed on allconcrete substrates regardless of grade level or age of slab.Perform either ASTM F2170 In-Situ Relative Humidity (RH) test orASTM F1869 Calcium Chloride Moisture Test (MVER: MoistureVapor Emission Rating). Perform pH test per ASTM F710 todetermine alkalinity of the slab. RH Test results should not exceed85% relative humidity. The Calcium Chloride Test for moistureshould measure no more than 8lbs per one-thousand square feet in24 hours MVER, and pH tests for alkalinity levels should registerbetween 7 and 9. Electronic meter testing is not considered areplacement for a Calcium Chloride Test or Relative Humidity Test. All moisture tests should be conducted several days prior toinstallation to be sure that moisture is at recommended levels.Follow current ASTM F710 guidelines. Metroflor® Corp. highlyrecommends that substrate moisture and pH testing is conductedby an ICRI (International Concrete Repair Institute) tier 2 certifiedthird party.

NOTE: Various Federal, State and Local government agencies haveregulations governing the removal of in-place asbestos-containingmaterial. If you contemplate the removal of a resilient floorcovering structure that contains (or is presumed to contain)asbestos, you must review and comply with all applicableregulations. Do not sand, dry sweep, dry scrape, drill, saw, beadblast, or mechanically chip or pulverize existing resilient flooring, backing, lining felt, asphalt "cut-back” adhesive, or other adhesive. These products may contain asbestos fibers and/or crystallinesilica. Avoid creating dust. Inhalation of such dust is a cancer andrespiratory tract hazard. Smoking by individuals exposed toasbestos fibers greatly increases the risk of bodily harm. Unlesspositively certain that the product is a non-asbestos containingmaterial, you must presume it contains asbestos. Regulations mayrequire that the material be tested to determine asbestos content.

The RFCI’s Recommended Work Practices for Removal of ResilientFloor Covering are a defined set of instructions addressed to thetask of removing all resilient floor covering structures. For furtherinformation, visit the Resilient Floor Covering Institute website atwww.rfci.com.

STEP 1: Identify the Starting WallSelect your starting wall. For instance, choose the longest wall inthe room, or a wall running towards a window or natural source oflight. Facing the starting wall, installation will move from left to rightbeginning in the left corner. The long, groove side of the materialshould face the open field, and the Unifit® Locking Strip will facethe left corner of the starting wall.

TIP: If using Prevail™ Universal Sound Solution Underlayment, position prior to installing the first row of planks or tiles by reverse-rolling with the adhesive tape edge facing the open field. Installeach length of underlayment row-by-row as the installation of thematerial progresses.

STEP 2: Position the SpacersCreate an even ¼-inch expansion space between the perimeter planksand the wall using spacers. Do not remove them until the installationis complete, unless otherwise instructed in this manual (See Image 1).

TIP: Position the spacers along the starting wall as you go, and atthe beginning and end of each row. Never install the material tightto the wall.

STEP 3: Position the First Plank or Tile in the First RowSelect the first full plank and position it a few inches from thestarting wall. The white Unifit® Locking Strip should be touching aspacer on the left-hand wall (See Image 2). You will move the entireassembly against the spacers on the starting wall after the first andsecond rows are complete.

TIP: Installation alternates back and forth between rows one andtwo, for the first two rows only (See Image C: Plank, Image D: Tile).

STEP 4-A (FOR PLANK ONLY): Cut the First Plank for the Second RowIn order to establish proper staggering between the rows, cut thefirst plank in the second row to one-third its length before installingit. Use a measuring tape to measure from the decorative edge ofthe short groove side of the plank. Measure one third the length ofthe plank and mark (See Image 3). Place a straight edge on themark and score carefully using a utility knife (See Image 4). Snap, using your knee as leverage (See Image 5). This cut piece will beused for the first piece of the second row.

STEP 4-A cont.

TIP: Maintain a minimum 6-inch end-joint stagger from row-to-rowthroughout the entire installation (See Image E). Do not stair-stepthe end joints (See Image F).

STEP 4-B (FOR TILE ONLY): Install the First Tile of the Second RowIn order to establish the required staggered, brick-laid installationfor Engage™ Tile with Unifit®, cut the first tile in the second row tohalf its length before installing it. Use a measuring tape to measurefrom the decorative edge of the short groove side of the tile.Measure one half the length of the tile and mark (See Image 3).Place a straight edge on the mark and score carefully using a utility knife (See Image 4). Snap, using your knee as leverage (See Image 5). This cut piece will be used for the first piece of thesecond row.

TIP: Do not align the vertical joints from one row to the next wheninstalling Engage™ Tile with Unifit®. The tiles must be installed ina staggered, brick-laid pattern.

STEP 5: Install the First Plank of the Second RowEngage the long tongue edge of the plank into the long grooveedge of the first plank you installed. Rotate the plank into placeagainst the spacer using a thirty degree angle, making sure the plank is fully connected with no gaps (See Image 6). Then tapalong the long groove edge using the Prevail™ Tapping Block (See Image 7). Do not use the Prevail™ Tapping Block on the shortends of the material unless otherwise instructed in this manual.Damage to the Unifit® Locking Strip may result.

TIP: If a plank is positioned incorrectly and the joints are not tight,it must be carefully separated and repositioned prior to tapping.Always check for gaps before installing the next row.

STEP 6: Install the Second Plank of the Second RowSelect a full plank and connect the tongue into the groove on thelong side of the first plank in the first row. The key is to work at a very slight, low angle, not more than the height of a finger (SeeImage 8). Slide the plank until the white Unifit® Locking Strip touchesthe short groove edge on the first plank of the second row. Press thejoint into place with your fingers (See Image 9), then square the jointby tapping the long edge of the plank using the Prevail™ TappingBlock. Next, lightly tap the short joint with a lightweight rubbermallet (See Image 10).Only the short joints engaged with the Unifit®Locking Strip should be gently tapped with the lightweight rubbermallet. The material should be flat on the floor with no gaps.

TIP: Run your finger over the joint to make sure it is completely level, and as a double-check, gently attempt to lift up the plank you justinstalled. If you detect high spots between the joints, or if you can lift the plank, the Unifit® Locking Strip is not fully engaged. STEP 7: Install the Second Plank of the First RowSelect a full plank and position the long groove edge into thetongue of the second plank in the second row. Carefully slide theplank along the tongue at a very low angle, using the tongue as aguide to keep the plank straight (See Image 11). Slide the plankinto place until the white Unifit® Locking Strip touches the shortgroove of the first plank. Press into place with your fingers, thensquare the joint by tapping along the long groove edge using thePrevail™ Tapping Block. Next, gently tap the short joint with alightweight mallet.

TIP: Never lift the material at a high angle when joining the longedges together. A low, slight angle no more the height of a fingeris easiest and most effective when installing Engage™ with Unifit®.

STEP 8: Continue Alternating Between Rows Repeat the same installation pattern, alternating between rows oneand two until you reach the opposite wall and you cannot installanother full plank (See Image 12). Make sure all planks are firmlyin place and joints are level and secured, then tap along the longgroove edge using the Prevail™ Tapping Block. The material mustbe locked into place and lying flat on the floor and with no gaps.

TIP: When installing Engage™ with Unifit® under door casings, first, remove the lock from the short groove edge of the previouslyinstalled plank using a narrow chisel (See Image 13) and apply athin bead of Prevail™ 30-GS adhesive (See Image 14).

Next, remove the Unifit® Locking Strip from the next plank to beinstalled (See Image 15). Slide the material into position as far aspossible while easing it under the door casing (See Image 16). Use the Prevail™ Tapping Block on the short groove edge of the newplank and tap the plank into position (See Image 17). Clean upexcess adhesive with Prevail™ Remove-All, following the directionson the label.

NOTE: The Prevail™ Tapping Block should be used on the shortend of the plank ONLY if the Unifit® Locking Strip has beenremoved for positioning under door casings.

STEP 9: Install the Last Pieces of the First and Second Rows Measure from the spacer on the right-hand wall to the finished edgeof the last full plank on the second row (See Image 18). Transfer themeasurement onto a full plank, measuring from the decorative edgeof the short side with the white Unifit® Locking Strip and markingcarefully (See Image 19). Place a straight edge on the mark andscore using a utility knife. Snap, using your knee as leverage.Temporarily remove the spacers at the end of the row and installthe last plank (See Image 20), keeping the angle low and slidingthe plank along the tongue as before. Press the joint into place withyour fingers, then tap the long groove edge with the Prevail™Tapping Block to insure that the material is square and firmly lockedwith no gaps. As before, tap the short joint with a lightweightmallet. Repeat the entire process for the last plank of the first row.

STEP 9 cont.Replace the spacers at the end of the rows, and slide the entireassembly against the spacers on the starting wall (See Image 21).Be sure that the spacers remain in place, maintaining the ¼-inchexpansion space until the installation is complete. After installingthe first and second rows, install the remaining rows one after theother until you reach the opposite end of the room and you cannotinstall any more full planks.

TIP: Avoid “stair stepping” or lining up joints from one row to thenext. The remaining cut from the end of each row may be used tobegin other rows, providing the cut piece measures at least 12inches in length and the short groove edge is intact. The staggerbetween end joints from one row to the next should never measureless than 6 inches. If an end cut measures 6 inches or less in length, always reinforce the joint using a thin bead of Prevail™ 30-GSadhesive in the groove edge of the material (See Image 22). Cleanup excess adhesive immediately.

NOTE: If using Prevail™ Universal Sound Solution Underlayment, continue to unroll one length at a time as you go.

STEP 10: Install the Last RowThe final row of planks will be cut to fit along the wall. Select the firstplank intended for the last row and cut according to therecommended staggering method. Place the plank directly on top ofthe previously installed row with the long tongue and groove facingthe same direction as those on the planks in the previously installedrow (See Image 23). Maintain spacing on the short ends using ¼-inch spacers. You will not use spacers along the long wall for thefinal row. Create a measuring plank by cutting a scrap piece of plankabout 8 inches long, making sure the tongue and groove are intacton the long edges. Position the measuring plank against the wall andon top of the plank you aligned for the final row. Mark along theedge where the measuring plank rests (See Image 24). Use a sharputility knife to cut through the Unifit® Locking Strip at the mark first(See Image 25), then score along the length of the plank and snap(See Image 26). Slide the plank into place against the spacer on theshort side (See Image 27). Use a pull bar to lock the long edgestightly together (See Image 28). Do not use the pull bar on the shortedges. Select your next plank and place it as before, making surethe material is aligned. Keep moving the measuring plank down thewall, cutting and installing one plank at a time as you go (See Image29). Always cut the Unifit® Locking Strip first, then score along thelength of the plank and snap. Slide the plank into position and usethe pull bar to lock the long edges into place. Lightly tap each shortjoint as you go with a lightweight rubber mallet.

TIP: Cover the expansion space with wall base, making sure not to trap or pin down the floor in any way.

When installation is complete, remove the spacers. You may fill the ¼-inch expansion space around high-moisture areas like tubs, showers and appliances using premium waterproof 100%silicone caulk.
