Welcome to Faith

Worship Statement

Worship is the stage upon which the divine drama of redemption is played out. Our desire is for our worship to reflect both the reverence for God (Ps. 29:2) and the joy of the gospel (Luke 2:20). We revere God because He is holy (Isa. 6:3). We are filled with joy because of how the gospel frees and changes us (Acts 3:8). When you worship with us, you can expect to see rich theology embodied in God-centered worship that engages our hearts (Acts 2:37). United with other believers, the church throughout history, angels, and all the company of heaven we offer praise to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Our worship is a foretaste of the heavenly bliss we will enjoy when we enter into His presence eternally (Rev. 5:9-13). The special ways that God gives us His grace, the Word and the Sacraments (the Lord’s Supper and baptism), are the focus of our worship (Acts 2:42). The preaching of the Word is straight from the Bible and the sermons are Christ-centered. The Lord's Supper affects our hearts and renews our dependence on God and is celebrated weekly (I Cor. 11:23-26). Surrounding the Word and the Supper is our participation in praise through corporate confession of our sins, the assurance of the pardon of God in Christ Jesus, offerings, and the singing of praise in Biblical styles (1Cor. 14:26, 33, 40) that reflect the gifts God has bestowed upon our particular Body. We strive to worship God by music with lyrics reflecting the timeless propositional truth of Scripture regardless of the era in which the music and lyrics were written. Our praise is designed to glorify God through the edification of His saints by focusing all present on the message of Jesus Christ and Him crucified (I Cor. 1:23; 2:2). Biblical, Reformed, and gospel-driven worship glorifies God, transcends style, edifies the church, and evangelizes the unbeliever (John 16:8; Rom 10:14-17). But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. Heb. 12:22-24

WORSHIP SERVICE

Greetings/Announcements Call to Worship Elder: Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of

David, as preached in my gospel, for which I am suffering, bound with chains as a criminal. But the word of God is not bound! Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. The saying is trustworthy, for :

People: If we have died with him, we will also live with him;

Elder: if we endure, we will also reign with him;

People: if we deny him, he also will deny us;

Elder: if we are faithless, he remains faithful—

All: for he cannot deny himself.

Hymn of Praise: No. 16(STANDING) (VERSES 1-4)

“Come Let Us Sing” Sing to the Lord new song for He has done marvelous things. Ps.98:1

Greetings/Passing of Peace

(Praise Book) No. 73 “Praise the Father, Praise the Son”

(Praise Book) No. 47 “In Christ Alone”

God’s Word Examines our Hearts: (SEATED) Elder: Therefore, you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself that you will escape the judgment of God? Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed. (Romans 2:1-5 ESV)

Confession of Sin: (SEATED, UNISON)

Father Almighty, we know in our hearts that you are exhaustively sovereign and that everything we have is from you. Yet when our circumstances are good, we often do not give thanks and honor you as God. When circumstances are bad, we grumble and complain. We scheme instead of pray. Forgive us, Father. Soften our hearts. Stir us up to a continual repentance-- to turn away from our sin and walk in the good works you have ordained for us. Restore unto us the joy of our salvation, and renew a right spirit in us.

Silently Confessing Our Personal Sins: (SEATED)

Assurance of Pardon: (SEATED)

Elder: This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. (1 John 1:5-10 ESV)

Words of Institution:

Partaking of the Bread

Partaking of the Cup

• Communion, also called The Lord’s Supper, is the family meal of Christians. We invite all committed followers of Jesus Christ to partake of this sacrament: those who are baptized members of a congregation which proclaims the gospel, who are at peace with God and with their neighbor, and who seek strength to live more faithfully for Christ. If you are not a Christian, or if you are not prepared to share in this meal, we encourage you to spend this time in prayer. We hope that this time is helpful to you as you consider your relationship with Jesus Christ and with His people, the church.

• Baptized children of an age appropriate to understand the preached Word who have been admitted to the Supper by the leadership of a congregation that proclaims the Gospel, or who have been admitted to the table by our Session, are invited to partake. Please see a member of the Session for information on communing membership for your children.

• Both wine and grape juice are offered for communion. The wine is served in the outer ring of the communion trays and the center rings contain juice. After the Lord’s Supper, elders will be available at the front of the auditorium for prayer or to respond to questions.

Communion Prayers Prayer for Those Searching for Truth: Lord Jesus, you claim to be the way, the truth and the life. If what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open to me the reality of who you are. Grant that I might be undaunted by the cost of following you as I consider the reasons for doing so. Give me an understanding for you that is coherent, convincing, and leads to the life that you promise. Amen. Prayer of Belief: Lord, Jesus, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever before believed, but through you, I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared to hope. I thank you for paying my debt, bearing my punishment on the cross and offering forgiveness and new life. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sins and receive you as my savior. Amen. Prayer of Struggling Against Sin: Lord Jesus, grant that I may see in you the fulfillment of all my needs, and may turn from every false satisfaction to find complete satisfaction in you. Enable me to lay aside the sin that clings so closely to me, and run with perseverance the race that you have set before me, looking only to you, the pioneer and champion of my faith. Amen.
