Senior Golf October 4, Delisle

The CVAC senior golf championship took place on Wednesday, September 13, at the Oasis Golf Resort, Perdue. After almost two months of glorious weather, the 2017 playoff unfortunately took place under less than ideal conditions. A rain squall earlier in the morning with cool temperatures made the tournament a mental and physical challenge for the 27 competitors.

Upon completion of the 18 holes of golf, the strength of Warman High’s program was clearly evident. Their team score of 223 was more than 20 strokes better than the second place team finisher from Delisle Composite, which had a total of 247. Clavet, with a score of 253, rounded out the top three finishing schools.

Parker Noln-Ens from Warman captured the individual title with a three over par 75, a great score, especially considering the elements. His score was followed by a three-way tie for second at 79. Once the tie-breaking procedure was applied, Brant Wiebe from Delisle finished second, Matthew Ikert from Warman finished third and Lucas Mennie from Warman finished fourth.

Provincial golf

The provincial championship tool place in Estevan on September 22 and 23 at the Woodlawn Golf Club. CVAC was represented by its top team, Warman High, including its top three available individual entrants (Parker, Matthew and Lucas) and an alternate.

The first day of play, with 64 males competing for the provincial title, took place in less than ideal conditions. A 60-minute weather delay foreshadowed the challenges the players would face. Upon completion of the round, CVAC’s golfers, individually and as a team, had done quite well. Noln-Ens shot a 78, putting him in a tie for fifth. The team’s alternate, Samuels, shot an 83 which put him in a tie for ninth.

Combined with Mennie’s and Ikert’s respective 86 and 87, the Warman team was in second place heading into day two, one stroke ahead of P.A. Carlton.

The weather on Saturday was not much improved from Friday, making for another challenging day of play. Tyler’s inexperience at this level of competition showed as he ballooned to a 96, finishing

in a tie for 28th, with a 179. Lucas shot an 89, leaving him in a tie for 25th at 175. Matthew, meanwhile, built on his first round, shooting four strokes better with an 83 and finishing in a tie for 19th with a 170. Parker had the best day overall as he fired a 77. His combined score of 155 placed him in a three-way tie for third, giving him a bronze medal at the 2017 SHSAA Provincial Championship.

As a team, Warman High also captured bronze medals, finishing third behind Estevan and P.A. Carlton, with a combined score of 478, only one stroke behind the Prince Albert team. Congratulations to them all!

CVAC would once again like to thank the players and coaches who took part in senior golf this year. We continue to encourage schools, administrators and coaches, to grow this lifelong sport with their athletes.

We cannot speak highly enough of the sportsmanship and camaraderie displayed by these athletes before, during, and after competition, the goal of all SHSAA activities.

Cross Country October 4, Delisle

The 2017 CVAC cross country championships took place in Delisle under relatively sunny skies on Wednesday, October 4. After a group rendition of “O Canada” and a course walkthrough, the ath-letes were off and running (pun intended).

The Atom (under 10 years of age) level girls and boys started things off, running a 2-km course through the hills of the Delisle rodeo grounds. Winning the races were Skylar Dyck from Warman Com-munity Middle School and Josh Olson from Valley Manor, respec-tively.

This level was followed by the Pee Wee (under 11 years of age) group, also running the 2 km course. WCMS continued to perform very well, winning both races with Bella Healey capturing the girls race and Griffyn McCormick victorious in the boys race. In the school team events, where a school’s top four finishers determine their standing, Valley Manor captured the Atom title, edging out South Corman Park and Warman Elementary. At the Pee Wee level, WCMS finished first ahead of Valley Manor.

Finally, in the combined Atom/Pee Wee category, using the same criteria, WCMS emerged victorious with only eight points, riding its three of four race victories to first place ahead of Valley Manor and Lake Vista.

Bantam (under 13 years of age) and Midget (under 15 years of age) athletes run a 3-km course, following the 2 km loop with a 1 km loop added. The bantam races were won by Kate Block from Wald-heim and Tyler Sanders from the host Delisle Composite School.

At the midget level, Eryn Kielo from DCHS edged out last year’s provincial medalist Brenna Paquin from Warman High while Daw-son Lenna from Venture Heights bested the competition in the boys race. At the Junior (under 16 years of age) level, where the athletes run 4 km on a 2 km loop, Rebekah Dagenais from Vonda’s Ecole Providence and Josh Baduik from Perdue emerged as the race victors.

Finally, in the Senior (16 and over years of age) competition, with the girls and the boys running 4 km and 5 km respectively, Sydney Neufeld from Aberdeen and Scott Fenton from Clavet won the last races of the day.

In the school team events, the Bantam victor was Venture Heights, edging out WCMS and Valley Manor and repeating as the category champion. The Midget champion for 2017 was DCHS as they slipped by Osler School and Venture Heights. At the Junior and

Senior levels, there was only one school in each category with the minimum of four runners entered, making Dalmeny High and RJC the respective champions this year. Finally, the aggregate team winner, combining the best four indi-vidual results from a school across the bantam-senior spectrum, was W.W. Brown from Langham, who, while not winning any of the eight races, scored only 11 points to slide by DCS who fin-ished second with 12 points.

Provincial Cross Country

The provincial championships took place in Turtleford on Saturday, October 14. The first race, the midget girls 3000 m, was the best result of the day for

CVAC, with two finishers in the top 10. Brenna Paquin from War-man High, last year’s silver medalist, finished fifth this year, while Eryn Kielo from Delisle Composite ran an excellent race to finish in second place, capturing the 2017 silver medal.

The midget boys 3000m race was a challenge for CVAC as Jordan Smith from Leask School finished as our top runner in twenty-fourth place. Similar results came from the 4000m junior girls and boys races as Kierden Brown from Dalmeny High and Robert Pizzey from W. W. Brown in Langham were CVAC’s top runners, finishing 39th and 23rd, respectively. The senior girls’ 4000 m race had CVAC capture a top 10 position as Morgan Jarvie from Asquith School finished sixth.

In the senior boys 5000 m race, Scott Fenton from Clavet Compo-site was CVAC’s top finisher as he placed just outside the top 10 in twelfth place. In the school competition, several of our schools did quite well. In the 1A grouping, Delisle Composite finished in sixth place. In the 2A grouping, Dalmeny finished second for the second year in a row, capturing the silver team medal. In the 3A grouping, Warman High finished in twelfth place.

CVAC would once again like to thank everyone involved with cross country this year, with special thanks to Delisle Composite who once again hosted our District meet. We look forward to next year’s competition with hopes for continued growth and improved results.

A cool rainy Saturday greeted CVAC’s senior soccer teams at their regional playoffs on October 21. CVAC hosted three of the eight province-wide 7v7 playoffs, with schools trying to be one of the two teams advancing from each regional to the provincial Final 8 the following weekend.

In girls 7v7 competition, Stobart hosted a five-team all-CVAC playoff on their new field. On Friday, RJC eliminated an outmanned CRCEC squad 6-2. Unfortunately for them, on Saturday morning they faced top seed Waldheim, falling 7-0. The second game on Saturday featured a Stobart-VCA match from which VCA emerged victorious 6-0. In the regional final, Waldheim maintained its offensive attack, defeating VCA 5-2, but both teams advanced to the provincial finals in Martensville.

Meanwhile, the provincial host Royals travelled to Swift Current for their regional. In their first game, top seeded MHS defeated Caronport 5-0. And who should they meet in their regional final down south but their neighbour Dalmeny, who had defeated host Herbert 1-0 in the second game of the day. In the final, a tight match resulted in a 2-0 Martensville victory, advancing two more CVAC teams on to the provincial finals. Finally, Warman High travelled to Middle Lake for their playoff. After handling Humboldt 6-1 in their semi-final, they punched their ticket to provincials with a 1-0 victory over top seed Middle Lake. Eight teams advanced to the provincial finals and five came from CVAC, including three regional champions! Impressive!

At the 1A girls championship in Martensville, five CVAC teams were in the hunt for medals. In opening round play, Warman crushed Maymont 9-0, Waldheim defeated Chief Little Pine 5-2, VCA squeezed by Martensville 2-1 and Dalmeny fell to Middle Lake 6-0. In their second match Friday, Dalmeny was eliminated from further play following a 2-0 loss to Chief Little Pine. Meanwhile, Martensville kept itself in play as they defeated Maymont 6-1, advancing to the Saturday morning consolation final which they lost 4-1 to Chief Little Pine.

VCA and Waldheim were pushed into Saturday’s third place game as they lost their semi-finals, Warman defeating VCA 5-0 and Middle Lake sliding by Waldheim 3-1.

This set up a rematch of the regional final from the week before and once again Waldheim was the victor, defeating VCA 6-2 to claim the bronze medal.

Warman High was CVAC’s last hope for a gold medal victory. Its opponent in the title game, Middle Lake, was the same team they had battled in their regional final. Once again Warman High

Senior Soccer emerged victorious, this time with a 3-0 win, giving up only one goal throughout their playoff run. Congratulations girls on your 1A 7v7 SHSAA championship!!

In boys 7v7 playoffs, Waldheim hosted an all-CVAC regional. The first game was extremely tight, including a two round shootout. In the end, Constable Robin Cameron defeated Waldheim 4-3, advancing to the regional final. There they met RJC who had defeated Stobart 2-1 in the other semi-final. CRCEC and RJC then battled in the final, CRCEC emerging victorious 3-1, with both teams advancing to the provincial championship in Middle Lake. Meanwhile, VCA was hosting said Middle Lake in another regional, a tough playoff from which to advance. Unfortunately, they could not, falling 2-1 to Lake Lenore in their semi-final.

In 2A play, Martensville High’s boys team was CVAC’s only 11v11 team entered into SHSAA playoffs. They were the host of a four -team regional, needing to finish in the top two to advance to provincials the following weekend. And they did, defeating Chief Poundmaker 4-2 in their first game before falling 5-4 to North Battleford’s John Paul II in the regional final.

The weather for the provincial championships could only be drier and warmer than it was for regionals. And it was, especially for teams that advanced to the medal round on Saturday with temperatures in the teens. At 2A boys provincials in Yorkton, MHS was matched against Regina Sheldon Williams in their first game. After losing a tight 4-3 contest, Martensville was unable to regroup for their second match, falling 10-1 to Notre Dame and being eliminated from further play.

Meanwhile, at the 1A boys championship in Middle Lake, CVAC was represented by Constable Robin Cameron Educational Complex and Rosthern Junior College. Both schools won their opening matches, CRCEC over 3-2 over Ahtahkakoop and RJC 3-1 over Herbert. Unfortunately, their second games in the semi-finals did not go as well. CRCEC fell 4-3 to Lake Lenore while RJC was crushed 15-1 by the eventual gold medalists from Middle Lake. This pitted the two CVAC schools against each other Saturday morning in the third place game. As in the regional final, CRCEC emerged victorious, this time by a 5-3 score, capturing the 2017 1A 7v7 SHSAA bronze medal.

CVAC would like to thank everyone involved with the senior soccer season this year. We are seeing the results of the strong league play developed within our borders and look forward to continued success in the future.

Football SHSAA football playoff quarter finals took place on Saturday, October 28, with beautiful weather across the province. In the 1A 6-man grouping, Hanley hosted Cupar in the closest game of the weekend, with Hanley pulling out a 40-39 victory, pitting them against Kerrobert in the semi-finals.

In the 2A 6-man playoff, three CVAC teams were involved. Rosthern travelled north to Charlebois to play Cumberland House where they defeated the host squad 58-42. Clavet played host to Watrous in their quarter final game, emerging with a 59-32 victory. Meanwhile, Dalmeny travelled south to Wynyard to meet the Bears, winning 68-52 and putting three CVAC teams in the semi-finals.

At the 2A 9-man level, Indian Head travelled to Delisle to face the Rebels. The Broncs played well, defeating Delisle 28-15. In the 3A 9-man playoff, the Royals travelled from Martensville to Lumsden for their playoff game. Unfortunately, they were no match for the Devils, losing 74-6.

In their 1A 6-man semi-finals, Hanley hosted Kerrobert and they used their home field to their advantage, defeating the Rebels 55-38 and advancing to the provincial final in Raymore.

Meanwhile, in the first of the 2A 6-man semis, Dalmeny travelled to Wakaw for their playoff game. The DHS Cougars came out strong, defeating the Warriors 52-40 and moving on to the championship. Their provincial final opponent would come from the second semi-final, where Rosthern hosted Clavet in an all-CVAC match-up. Clavet started quickly and maintained their intensity throughout, eliminating the Huskies 71-22.

Provincial championships took place in relatively ideal conditions on the afternoon of Remembrance Day. In the 1A 6-man final, two undefeated teams went head to head in the finale. Hanley faced an uphill battle as they went on the road for their game, travelling to Raymore to face the Rebels. The Sabers jumped out to an 11-0

lead in the first quarter, but the home crowd inspired the Rebels as they roared back to take the lead at halftime. As much as Hanley strove to retake the lead in the second half, they were unable to keep pace with Raymore, eventually losing 46-35, claiming the silver medal for 2017.

Meanwhile, Clavet hosted the 2A 6-man final against its CVAC rival from Dalmeny, the host Cougars against the visiting Cougars. An earlier game in the season between these teams had been an exciting one point victory for Clavet, and this game was another classic.

Both teams came out firing as receivers were able gain an advantage with their footing on the slippery field. Clavet led 34-24 at half in great part to their recovery of two fumbles. The second half opened with Clavet building on their lead, but Dalmeny roared back with three 8-point touchdowns in only three and a half

minutes to take a 48-42 lead. An exchange of touchdowns put Dalmeny ahead 56-50 going into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Clavet’s defence stiffened, not allowing a Dalmeny touchdown until its offence had put 22 points on the board. Dalmeny scored two touchdowns in the final two minutes, narrowing the gap with a minute left. While it had looked like Clavet’s four missed converts might end up costing them, it was Dalmeny’s one missed convert that was the difference, as Clavet won 72-70, capturing their fifth gold medal in the last 10 years.

Congratulations to everyone involved with the 2017 football season within CVAC, from players to coaches to supporters. We look forward to another competitive, exciting, quality season in 2018.

Girls

SHSAA senior volleyball playoffs began the first weekend in November as girls’ conferences took place across the province.

Vonda hosted a 1A playoff for the first time ever, but was knocked out in the semi-finals. In Kenaston, Allan was eliminated after round robin play while Colonsay, like Vonda, fell in the semi-finals. In Plenty, Perdue also was eliminated after round robin play, but Borden went undefeated, winning the conference and moving on to regionals.

At the 2A level, an all-CVAC conference was set in Hanley. After the completion of the round robin, Asquith, Blaine Lake, and Hague had been eliminated while Langham, the conference champion, and Hanley, the second place finisher, advanced to regionals the following weekend.

In 3A play, Stobart hosted a conference playoff in Duck Lake. Constable Robin Cameron Educational Complex (CRCEC) was eliminated after round robin play and Stobart finished second to Wakaw and advanced to regionals.

VCA also hosted a 3A conference featuring another all-CVAC grouping. Following the completion of the round robin, Rosthern High, VCA, and RJC had not advanced, but Waldheim, the conference champion, and Hepburn, the second place finisher, had moved on to regionals. In Watrous, Delisle was also eliminated following their round robin matches.

Finally, at 4A conference playoffs in Unity, Dalmeny finished 3-1 and advanced as the second place finisher to regionals while Clavet was unable to move forward from their playoff in Outlook.

The weekend of November 10/11 was a blend of sporting action and the heartfelt remembrance of our military veterans. Volleyball playoffs were typically split between Friday evening and Saturday afternoon to accommodate Remembrance Day celebrations and to minimize any conflict between the two events.

In 1A girls play, Borden continued its impressive play. They rolled through another playoff round, defeating Medstead, Leoville, Goodsoil and Plenty and advancing to the provincial championship in Fox Valley.

At the 2A regional in Hanley, the host Sabers and the Vikings from Langham finished second in their pool. Both teams lost their semi-finals, pitting them against each other in the third place match to decide the final team advancing to provincials in Davidson. This year it was the Vikings, as they defeated Hanley 2-0 to keep their medal hopes alive.

In 3A play, three CVAC teams travelled to Wakaw for regionals. Hepburn and Waldheim were unable to advance to the playoff round, but Stobart finished second in their pool following the completion of round robin play. They faced a strong Wakaw squad in the semis, losing 2-0 and dropping into the third place match. Knowing it was their last chance to advance to provincials, the Rebels came out swinging, sweeping LCBI 2-0 and punching Stobart’s ticket to the provincial championship in Carlyle.

At the 4A level, Dalmeny hosted one of three regionals across the province. They finished second in their pool, advancing to the semis. After losing to Unity, they too were in a third place match to decide whether they would advance to provincials. The Cougars played a solid match, defeating Outlook 2-0 and moving on to Yorkton.

Volleyball

Finally, in 5A play in Prince Albert, Martensville was eliminated after round robin play, but Warman advanced to the playoff round. Unfortunately, they lost 2-0 to Melfort, ending their season.

Boys

Boys conference play also went on the long weekend. At the 1A level, Perdue was unable to advance as they lost out in the round robin. Not so for Bellevue-Vonda as they swept their conference opponents and advanced to regionals in Middle Lake. At the 2A level, Asquith and Hepburn did not have a conference playoff to contest, advancing to regionals in Hepburn the following weekend.

3A conference play featured three champions from CVAC. Although RJC was eliminated after round robin play, the VCA Lions swept through their conference in St. Brieux. In Colonsay, the host Colts also went undefeated as they and VCA moved on to regionals in Birch Hills. A similar victory for Waldheim, as they also went undefeated in their conference in Maidstone. Joining them at regionals would be the Langham Vikings whose third place finish in Maidstone established them as the regional host. At the 4A and 5A conferences, Dalmeny and Warman, respectively, were unable to advance beyond round robin play.

Boys regional volleyball had some good results for CVAC teams and athletes. At the 1A level, Bellevue-Vonda continued to roll. They won their round robin pool and defeated Cowessess in the semi-final before falling in the regional final to the host Middle Lake, advancing to provincials as a top four seed.

In 2A play, Asquith was eliminated following round robin play, but Hepburn once again advanced to provincials. They finished second at the regional they hosted, winning their pool and defeating Ponteix in their semi-final before falling to Fox Valley in the regional final.

The 3A boys regionals featured four CVAC teams. At Langham, Waldheim was knocked out following round robin play, but Langham battled their way into the final four. After losing their semi-final to Island Lake, the Vikings had one final opportunity to advance to provincials, but needed to defeat Pierceland. And they did, winning 2-0 and moving on to provincials in Kipling.

At Birch Hills, Colonsay was eliminated after round robin play, but VCA advanced after finishing second to Meath Park in their pool. After losing 2-1 to Birch Hills in their semi-final, they needed to defeat École Canadienne in the third place final to advance. They needed to raise their level of effort and they did, sweeping École and moving on to join Langham at provincials.

Provincials - Girls

At 1A provincials in Fox Valley, Borden girls came out swinging, defeating Annaheim, Arcola, and Avonlea on Friday night. Their final round robin match Saturday morning, a tough 2-1 loss to Englefeld, saw them pitted against the top seed in their pool. This left them in second place in their pool, matching them against third place Plenty in their crossover playoff contest. Unfortunately, the game did not go as they planned, losing 2-1, eliminating them from further play.

At 2A provincials in Davidson, Langham’s young squad went 1-3 before losing a tough playoff match against the eventual silver medalist Ile-a-la-Crosse, leaving them hungry to return next year.

Page 9

3A provincials in Oxbow featured Stobart, another inexperienced CVAC team, making their first ever appearance at provincials. Matched against more experienced teams, they were unable to win any of their matches.

Finally, at 4A provincials in Yorkton, Dalmeny went 2-2 in round robin play, defeating Notre Dame and Meadow Lake but losing to Caronport and Nipawin, finishing in third place in their pool. Crossover playoffs matched them against second place Unity. As at regionals, Dalmeny was unable to upset the Warriors, losing 2-0 and being eliminated from further play.

Provincials - Boys The final weekend in November featured the SHSAA boys provincial volleyball championships across the province.

At the 1A championship in Rouleau, Bellevue-Vonda started strong, sweeping their Friday matches against Goodsoil, Vanguard and Leader. A loss to Edam Saturday morning left them in second place following the completion of pool play. In the playoff round, the Tropics regained their attacking form, sweeping Medstead in the first round and Mossbank in the semi-final. Pitted against the host Rebels in the final, the Tropics would be challenged.

Losing the first set 25-20, they bounced back in the second, winning 25-17, forcing a deciding third set. This was a battle, with neither team able to gain control. Needing to win by at least two points, the set was pushed beyond the established 15 point limit. Unfortunately, in extended play, Rouleau scored several timely points, defeating the Tropics 19-17 to win the championship. Heads held high, Bellevue-Vonda took home the 2017 1A boys’ provincial silver medals.

At the 2A boys championship in Moosomin, Hepburn started slowly, losing 2-1 to Rocanville in their first match. They bounced back to sweep Montmartre and Glaslyn on Friday and Arcola Saturday morning, finishing in second place after round robin play. In the playoff round, they defeated Wilkie 2-0 in the first round

before meeting Fox Valley in the semi-final. The effort was there, but they just could not match up to the eventual gold medalists. In the bronze medal match, fatigue took its toll as they lost to Rocanville, finishing fourth at the 2A boys provincials. A young team, they should be a force in the future.

3A provincials in Kipling-Whitewood featured two CVAC teams. Langham started well, upsetting the top seed and eventual gold medalist, Island Lake, in their first match, but was unable to win any of their next three matches and did not advance to the playoff round. VCA went 2-2 in round robin play, defeating Kipling and Redvers, but losing to Ile-á-la-Crosse and Birch Hills. Unfortunately, a loss to Carnduff in the first round of playoffs eliminating the Lions from further play and ending their season.

CVAC wishes everyone involved with senior volleyball this fall a thank you and a well deserved break. We look forward to a renewed effort in 2018 and many exciting results.

Junior Golf Valleyview Golf Course, Delisle, September 20

The CVAC Junior Golf Championships took place at the Valleyview Golf Course in Delisle on Wednesday, September 20. As much as the senior golf championship took place the week before in cool, damp conditions, the juniors lucked out with a sunny day in the mid-teens for their event. 45 boys and 6 girls battled the champi-onships in the female, B male, and A male categories.

In the girls event, the six entries was the most on record, some-thing we hope to build on in the future, Playing a nine-hole event and using a “double par max” on each hole, the play was close but friendly throughout the round. Upon completion of the round, there was a tie for first place between Jordan Mann of Martensville High and Sasha Rodriguez of Venture Heights with scores of 57. Sent back out after lunch to do battle in an extra hole playoff, Jor-dan sank a putt when it counted most, sliding by Sasha to capture the girls championship.

In the B boys event, 19 golfers vied for the title over nine holes, also using the “double par max” guideline, There were a num-ber of solid mid-50s rounds, but two scores stood out: the 51 recorded by Lukas Jungwirth from Venture Heights, which was eclipsed by the 45 shot by our B champion Jhett Larson from Delisle.

In the A boys event, 26 student–athletes competed over 18 holes of regulation golf in search of the 2017 CVAC champion-ship. Spectators and players alike were witness to some excel-lent play, from drives over 250 yards to solid chips and putts to other shots that, well, proved we are all human!

When the dust had settled, solid scores in the 90s, like the 91 shot by from third place finisher Jarett Rowan from Warman

High, were still overshadowed by two excellent finishes in the 80s. Spencer Bell, also from Warman High, fired a solid 88 only to be surpassed by an 84 recorded by Marcus Cameron from Stobart. Marcus used his tournament experience gained last week compet-ing in the senior championship to his advantage, finding the fair-ways and staying out of trouble, shooting the most consistent round of the day and capturing the 2017 championship.

It was a beautiful day for golf and the athletes truly enjoyed the experience. With so many grade 7 and 8 participants, next year’s championship should only be better. CVAC wants to thank the competitors, as well as their coaches and parents, for the effort and team play demonstrated, especially from those who worked on their game throughout the summer.

We look forward to seeing you next year in Perdue!

The junior volleyball season wrapped up at the last week of October and the first week of November. Twenty-two girls teams and 18 boys teams entered the 2017 play downs in hopes of being part of the “Final Five” in Hepburn on November 4.

Playoffs started on Monday, October 30, as teams battled at 16 different sites to determine who would advance to the conference finals. From the girls conference finals, Waldheim, Leask, Venture Heights and Dalmeny advanced to join host Hepburn on the weekend.

In the boys conference finals, Warman Community Middle School, Langham, VCA, and Perdue were the victors who moved on to join Hepburn on Saturday.

The draws for the finals were round robin formats, with four of the five teams advancing to a playoff round. What made the 2017 event unique was that CVAC was able to host the boys and girls events at the same location, making for huge crowds throughout the day.

In girls play, Leask sat in first place following completion of the round robin, followed by Hepburn, Dalmeny and Waldheim. In the first semi-final, Hepburn needed only two sets to defeat Dalmeny. Likewise in the second semi-final, as Leask swept Waldheim in two sets. The final pitted the two most consistent teams during the day against each other. Hepburn used their experience and the home crowd support to defeat Leask 25-18, 25-20 and claim the 2017 CVAC title.

Meanwhile, in boys play, round robin play finished with Perdue sitting in first place, followed by Hepburn, VCA and Langham. In the first semi-final, Hepburn defeated VCA in two very close sets. The second semi also went only two sets, as Perdue defeated Langham 25-9, 25-16.

In the final, Perdue started strong, winning the first set 25-13. Hepburn roared back in the second set, winning handily 25-8. The third set was a tight one, as both teams pushed hard for victory. In the end, Hepburn prevailed 15-12, creating a sweep of the 2017 CVAC junior championships.

CVAC would like to thank everyone involved with our expanding junior volleyball program. It was great to see WCMS join our ranks and look forward to Lake Vista, among others, becoming involved in the near future.

We encourage schools to seriously consider bidding to host the finals in the future as it is a great experience for the entire school community. Thank you for a great season!
