System Design

The Symons Rapid Clamp system isa high-strength concrete formingsystem designed for fast-pacedgangform operations.

Panels and llers

This metric, modular system consists of asteel frame and a resin-coated 15 mm (5 ∕ 8")plywood face. It provides the strength,durability and nish needed for mostgangforming applications.

Rapid Clamp has the strength required forthe large contact areas and fast pour ratescommon in large gangform applications.With a design pressure of 6000 kg/m2 (1228.8 psf), only two ties are needed for3 meter panel heights.

Rapid Clamp forms can be used horizontally

or vertically, even within the same gang.Available in various widths from 25 to200 cm, and heights of 1 or 3 meters, thiswide range of panel and ller sizes means

that you'll be able to form almost any walldimension. When combined with inside andoutside corners and accessories, pilasters,bulkheads and columns can be formed withstandard equipment, minimizing costly job-built forming operations.

CornersInside and outside corners are available

in 1 and 3 meter heights. The standardinside corners are 30 cm x 30 cm(approximately 12" x 12").

Clamp Connection

The Symons Rapid Clamp system featuresclamp connections that eliminate the needfor tools and aligning bars. Setting upor changing the conguration of gangsis quick and simple with these innovativeattachment clamps.

Other clamp-style forming systems requireseveral types of specialized clamps evenfor relatively common applications. RapidClamp has just two clamps that are usedfor any forming conguration. Thisreduces confusion, boosts productivity andsimplies operations.

Connecting ClampAttaching and removing the ConnectingClamp requires no tools. A simple leveraction opens and closes the “jaws”, and

a large tension screw is easily adjusted byhand.

This clamp is used vertically or horizontallyon panels, llers and corners. Whether

side-by-side or stacked, Rapid Clamp formsare easy to connect.

Adjustable ClampThe Adjustable Clamp also requires notools to install. The large wing nut on thehandle adjusts the clamping “jaws” toaccommodate lumber llers up to 25 cm(10") wide.

Like the Connecting Clamp, the AdjustableClamp can be used vertically or horizontallyto create the exact dimension required.

Heavy Duty TiesSymons offers various heavy duty tieand hardware options to complementthe Rapid Clamp forming system.

She-Bolts

With the use of a She-Bolt Cone, thesame 15 mm diameter rod is usedfor both the inner and the outerattachment rod. The inner tie is always4 inches shorter than the wall thicknessto work in combination with the lengthof the She-Bolt Cone.

Adjustable Top TieThe Adjustable Top Tie Bracket, a realtime and cost saver, attaches over thetop of opposing panels and functions asa dry tie. All components are above the

form and concrete placement, makingthe entire assembly reusable.

Taper TiesThe reusable Taper Tie is taperedfrom 5 ∕ 8" diameter to ¾" diameterwith an ultimate capacity of 36,800lbs. Standard Taper Ties are availablein a variety of lengths to permit wallthicknesses from 8" to 30".

Taper Ties offer the advantage of usingthe same diameter nut on both ends,making setting simpler and faster.

Ties

Symons Rapid Clamp forms andreusable ties combine to create aremarkably strong concrete formingsystem. The tying system consists of theThread Bar, a PVC tube with Cone Caps,plate washers and wing nuts.

Thread BarThe high strength, weldable andbendable 15mm (5 ∕ 8") ductile steel barhas a full-length, cold-rolled contourthread. The 2½ threads per inch offersfast installation and stripping. TheThread Bar is available in 20'-0" standardlengths and can be cut to specificproject requirements. Field cutting,with Carborundum blades, is easilyaccomplished without thread damage.

PVC tube and Cone CapsPVC tubes and reusable Cone Capsensure accurate form spacing andprotect the Thread Bar to allow them tobe used repeatedly.

Plate washer and wing nutNo walers are needed at tie locations.Plate Washers rest directly on formcrossbars, reducing equipment needsand simplifying set-up operations.

The durable, course thread pitch of thetie system makes tie installation andstripping faster because workers need just a few spins of the wing nut to placethe tie.

Transition Fil lerThe 8" Symons Rapid Clamp TransitionFiller provides a convenient connectionbetween Rapid Clamp and almostany other Symons concrete formingsystem. Details and cut-up areas canbe easily formed without wasting timeconstructing job-built fillers.

Tie-Off RodThe Symons Rapid Clamp Tie-Off Rodallows easy attachment of personalsafety equipment. This exclusive designmeets the Occupational Safety andHealth Administration (OSHA) 5000 lb.capacity requirement for personal fallprotection. The design improves workersafety without reducing productivity.

Three-Piece Stripping CornerThe inside stripping corner allows corewalls to be set and stripped withoutdisassembling the gangs. The cornerconsists of three pieces which partiallydisconnect and slide inward withratchet turnbuckles at the top andbottom of each gang.

Aligner Connector

The Aligner Connector is used toconnect the Pipe Form Aligner whenRapid Clamp crossmembers are in a

horixontal position. A 5 ∕ 8" x 5" bolt withtwo 5 ∕ 8" diameter nuts are required toconnect the Aligner Connector.

Rapid Clamp Waler ConnectorsSymons Rapid Clamp Waler Connectorsquickly attach Versiform® walersto Rapid Clamp to provide verticalalignment. A minimum of two WalerConnectors are required per panel.To prevent waler slippage, a WalerConnector Channel should be usedat one of the Rapid Clamp Waler

Connectors on each vertical waler.

Tie-Off Rod

Nut must be in downposition (as shown) orhorizontal position touse rod as a safety beltattachment point.

Accessories

Adjustable FillerThe Adjustable Filler is available in 1 and3 meter lengths. It is adjustable to anywidth from 6 cm (2¼") to 25 cm (9¾"),which reduces time-consuming job-building operations for small spans.

Walkway BracketThe all-steel one-piece Walkway Bracketassembly allows safe worker access.The bracket pins onto Rapid Clampforms with attached hardware. Built-inclips provide lumber insertion points forfast, simple walkway assembly.

Scaffold Bracket and Guard Rail Post

The Scaffold Bracket connects to avertical or horizontal crossmemberwith the attached pin. The Guard Rail

Post is simply inserted into the ScaffoldBracket, and the lumber deck andrailings are attached.

Lifting Bracket

The Rapid Clamp Lifting Bracket has aload rating of 1000 kg (2200 lbs.). Twoclamps are used to lift a typical 31.4 m2 (314 ft2) gang.

Easily clipped onto and removed fromthe top rail of a gang, Lifting Bracketsare only attached to the gangs duringtransport. With a quick flip of thelever, they can quickly be moved fromgang to gang, reducing the amount ofequipment needed on the site.

Bulkhead Bar You don’t need extra outside cornersand narrow panels on hand to formbulkheads. The Bulkhead Bar providesa simple way to produce these detailswith lumber. Bulkhead forms and thesupporting lumber are held in place byplacing one end of the Rod inside thepanel rail, and attaching the washer andnut, provided.
