Pope Francis: Listen and offer welcome to one another 07–17–2016 Before the recitation of the Marian prayer, the Holy Father spoke of the importance of hospitality calling it a real Christian virtue, but one which at times the world neglects. He drew his inspiration for this theme from the Sunday Gospel in which St Luke re-counts the story of Jesus who is welcomed into the home of two sisters Martha and Mary. They both offer their hospitality in different ways. Martha is busy preparing things while Mary stays to listen to Jesus’ words. When Martha protests that she has to do everything, Jesus reminds her that in order to welcome him many things are not nec-essary; indeed, only one thing is necessary, said Pope Francis, to listen to Jesus, "show him a fraternal attitude, so he feels what it is like to be part of the family, and not in a temporary shelter. " Putting the Gospel reading in the context of life today, Pope Francis gave an example. He said that there are many people in nursing homes and hospices, but it is not always the place where real hospitality is practiced. "Several institutions that cater to many forms of illness, loneliness, and marginalization are created, but the chance for those who are foreigners, marginalized, or excluded to find someone willing to listen decreases." He also noted that people are so taken up with the pace of life, with big and small prob-lems that we do not take the time to listen to one another . So at the conclusion of his ad-dress the Pope invited people to dedicate more time to listening because he said, the root of peace is in the capacity to listen.

G S M : M C D S Due to vacation schedules the Grief Support Ministry will meet Tuesday evening at St. Laurence Catholic Church from 6:30 - 8:30 pm and Wednesday mornings from 10:00 am -12 noon in the Ave Maria Center. Our meetings will return to St. Theresa on September 13. The hopelessness and sadness that comes from experiencing the loss of a loved one can leave us frozen in place, just trying to cope with everyday life. Support groups are an important tool for finding hope and coping tools on this journey. Grief does not take a summer vacation so the group will meet every week during the summer months! We are a group of compas-sionate lay people who also have experienced the death of someone we dearly loved. Join us to listen and share, because no one should grieve alone! For more information please contact Sandy Barber at 281-633-9090 or [email protected].

S P Unleashing the Power of a Woman’s Cycle: an Introduction to NaPro TECHNOLOGY

Thursday, July 28, 2016 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm St. Laurence Catholic Church, Ave Maria Center (St. Francis Room, 2nd Fl.) 3100 Sweetwater Blvd. Join Brooke Jemelka, MD FACOG from St Luke’s Medi-cal Group Caritas Women’s Care, located in Sugar Land, for an evening discuss-ing NaProTECHNOLOGY.

NaProTECHNOLOGY is a major breakthrough in monitor-ing and maintaining a women’s reproductive and gyneco-logical health. It provides effective holistic solutions to real problems. Emily Hickman, FCPI from Renew Fertili-tyCare will also give an overview of the Creighton Model FertilityCare System. Common women’s health conditions that NaProTECHNOL-OGY can treat: infertility, menstrual cramps, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), ovarian cysts, irregular or abnormal bleeding, polycystic ovarian disease, repetitive miscarriage, postpartum depression, prematurity prevention, hormonal abnormalities, chronic discharges. NaProTECHNOLOGY uses the Creighton Model Fertili-tyCare™ System biomarkers to monitor easily and objectively the occurrence of various hormonal events during the menstrual cycle. NaProtracking provides valid information that can be interpreted by a woman and by phy-sicians who are specifically trained in this system. This nat-ural approach allows the woman to be an active member of her gynecological health. For more information: www.chistlukeshealth.org/naprotechnology Dr. Brooke Jemelka earned a medical degree from Texas A&M Health Science Center and completed residency training in Obstetrics and Gyne-cology at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, MO. She is a member of the American Academy of FertilityCare Professionals, American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, International Institute of Restorative Reproductive Medicine, American Congress of Obstetrics & Gynecology, and the Catholic Medical Association.

SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY IN

ORDINARY TIME

O G , protector of those who hope in you, without whom nothing has firm foundation, nothing is

holy, bestow in abundance your mercy upon us and grant that, with you as our ruler and guide,

we may use the good things that pass in such a way as to hold fast even now to those that ever endure.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
