STEPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL CHECKOUT

Step One: Sign up with your RA to indicate when you plan to

check out. You can check out no later than 7pm on Friday of

Finals week. If you need an exception for any reason, contact your resident director as soon as possible.

Step Two: Attend the closing corridor meeting to receive all

necessary information about how to check out properly and reduce the likelihood that you could be charged for improper checkout.

Step Three: Remove all belongings from the room. Empty

drawers, closets, and your desk of everything.

Step Four: Unplug, defrost, and clean

your fridge completely. It takes several hours to defrost some freezers, so it is best to unplug your fridge the day before you plan to leave. Mop up any thawed freezer water with a towel.

Clean freezer tray, bottom tray, and drip tray behind the fridge.

Leave the fridge door open.

Step Five Lock window and pull shade halfway down

Step Six Empty trash in outside dumpster and recycling bin. Do

not put trash in hall trashcans; this places a huge burden on housekeepers. Do your part in keeping the building clean!

Step Seven Take any items you wish to donate

to the ShareFest location. Step Eight

Remove carpeting. Take to the dumpster area and sweep the floor.

Step Nine Turn off the lights and close the door.

Step ten Go to the designated

checkout location and ask an RA to come to your room to check you out. The two of you will look at your room for any damage and make sure you have completed all checkout steps. You will then sign your Room Inspection Record (the RA will provide this), which officially completes your check-out procedure.

Step eleven Empty your mailbox of all

mail before you leave the building.

SAFETY AND SECURITY

To prevent theft and increase safety, do not leave your property in the hall unattended.

Close your door when no one is in the room Keep an eye on your valuables at all times.

Notify magazine, newspaper, and other correspondence of your summer address using the “notification of change of address forms” available from the University Mail Services in Wells Hall.

University Police will remove all bicycles in public areas, including bike racks at the university residence halls, beginning on the Monday after finals week. Make sure you take your bike home for the summer or label it as being in use for the summer if you are staying.

This hall closes at 7pm on the Friday of Finals week. If you need to stay after that date and time, you must contact your Resident

Director no later than May 1.

24-Hour Quiet Hours begin Friday at 7pm the last week of classes and continue through hall closing.

If Noise can be heard in the hallway, it’s too loud.
