abouT eagle council Eagle Council is the annual conference for supporters of Phyllis Schlafly who are known as “Eagles” because Phyllis adopted the American bald eagle as her personal emblem and as the symbol of her leadership in politics and public affairs. In September 1966, Phyllis worked with a jeweler to design the eagle pin which has been worn by her friends and supporters ever since. In June 1967 she established the Eagle Trust Fund to support her public activities. In August 1967, the Eagle Trust Fund published the first monthly issue of The Phyllis Schlafly Report with a soaring eagle design on its masthead. Now in its 53rd year of continuous publication, The Phyllis Schlafly Report has had more than 600 issues with the same eagle logo. In February 1968, Phyllis convened a national conference called The Eagles Are Flying. Several more meetings were held under that name, including the historic 1972 conference to stop the Equal Rights Amendment. The 1972 conference was later recognized as the first Eagle Council, which has been held annually ever since. We gratefully acknowledge the generous assistance of Eagle Forum Education & Legal Defense Fund to support this 48th Eagle Council.
