Today, you should discover the identity of the Pudding Lane Hero?
Writing
Once the fire had been extinguished, a lot of people had lost their homes and were camping out in fields. King Charles II
made a speech to the people of London. He praised the courage of the people who tried to put out the fire. He also wanted to
rebuild the city and make plans to ensure another disaster like this could not happen again.
In October 1666, King Charles appointed architects including Sir Christopher Wren, to start rebuilding London. Some streets were
widened or straightened. All houses had to be constructed of brick, though some use of wood was allowed. It was made easier
to get water from the River Thames to the houses close by.
For today’s writing task, I would like you to write about what you are hoping to do or see after the lockdown is lifted. Do you think
anything will change? Do you think anything should change?
Here are some sentence starters you can use to help you.
I am excited to…I can’t wait to see ….
I want to go on holiday to…After Covid-19, I hope the world will be…After spending more time at home, I have
learnt…

Reading
This week, we would like you to choose your favourite picture book to share with
the rest of Year 2.
Practise reading it aloud, read it to your family, your toys, your pets and anyone
else who will listen until you are an expert.
Once you have practised, send in a video of you reading the book (remembering to show the pictures too), to Mrs Hadabora – [email protected] and from next week, we
can share your book as the class story.
Wider Curriculum
To remember the Great Fire and to celebrate the rebuilding of London, King Charles II asked Sir Christopher Wren and Dr Robert Hooke to design a monument. This took 6 years to
build and was erected in 1677 near to where the fire started. The monument is 61 ½ meters tall which is the same distance
from Pudding Lane to where the monument stands.
If you haven’t done already, click on the link (on the timetable page) to have trip around the monument.
Imagine our queen, Queen Elizabeth II, has asked you to
design a monument to remember the Coronavirus
of 2020.
Would you be so kind as to
design a monument?
Draw your design below and you could choose to make it out of junk modelling or Lego.
What’s the name of your monument?
Where will you build it and why?
What materials will it be made from?
What makes your monument impressive or makes it stand out?
